Some of the action in the Arrow-verse crossover moves to Earth-x in this episode of The Flash, which understandably gets pretty dark, with Oliver, Barry, Sara, Alex, Jax and Stein waking up in a concentration camp there after learning that Kara-x needs Kara's heart. Back on Earth-1, Thawne has taken over S.T.A.R. Labs for just that.
"Crisis on Earth-x, Part 3" sees the heroes on Earth-x meet some people who are on their side (and introduces The Ray and brings in another version of Leonard Snart) as they try to get home. Meanwhile, Felicity and Iris, the only ones not being held captive in S.T.A.R. Labs, end up in danger trying to help their friends.

The villains for this year's Arrow-verse crossover have finally been revealed, and they feature quite a few familiar faces. While it feels like the Arrow-verse is Reaaaaallllly playing out the whole multiverse concept, it will be cool to see evil versions of Supergirl and Oliver Queen, so I'm stoked for it nonetheless. What are your thoughts on the crossover reveal? Thanks, Slashfilm for the heads up.

This meet-and-greet would be like none of the dozens of others this week at Nashville’s Cma Music Festival. No autographs from this artist, and no more than a tentative “hello” or “thanks.” A handshake? Yes, but only from the left hand, not the right.
None of that mattered to the overflow crowd that lined up Friday afternoon at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The thrill was simply getting to be in the presence of Randy Travis.

A black-and-white cut of James Mangold's brilliant and final Wolverine film, titled simply Logan Noir, is coming to select theaters for one night only; the special edition will be on available on 4K and Blue-Ray next week. Today, Comicbook.com released a trailer for this special edition, and it is grim, powerful stuff.
There aren't any new or extended scenes evident in this trailer, but the monochromatic palette brings out details and texture that may not have been apparent before. Opening with the same Johnny Cash song from the original theatrical, full-color trailer, these scenes of Logan (Hugh Jackman) sweating, straining, and suffering somehow evokes an even darker and more melancholy mood (if that's even possible).

Last weekend the new trailer for Justice League was unleashed online, and as expected, it met with mixed reactions. I actually kinda thought it looked cool, but a lot of people out there that will disagree with me on that, which is fine. Even though I thought the trailer was cool, I'm well aware that the movie itself will end up being another disappointment. It will most likely be another big, great-looking visual spectacle with no real substance.
Below you'll find a bunch of screenshots from the trailer along with an interview with USA Today in which director Zack Snyder talks about each of the main characters in the film and their story arcs in the Dceu. In regard to Batman he explains:
“He’s been a loner for certainly his crime-fighting career, maybe with the exception of Robin. When we meet him in BvS, he’s definitely at this low point of isolation.

Well, that happened.
With the Spear of Destiny in one piece, the it only took DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 15 for the thing to fall into the wrong hands.
Why? Why do you think? Because at the heart of it, like many other DC characters who are trying to be heroic, the Legends aren't nice people.
To be honest, I couldn't (or didn't care to) follow along with the logic of going here, there and everywhere for the pieces of the spear and Christ's blood, and Tolkien was a wasted real-life character in the hour.
Damien Darhk finally took control of Eobard Thawne's disastrous command of the Legion of Doom's terrible attempts to get the pieces of the spear, and Mick finally had enough of jerks tossing words like friend and loyalty over their shoulder while thinking of him as nothing but trash.
Bravo to both sides.

David’s Quick Take for the tl;dr Media Consumer:
Mr. Freedom begins with a wail of sirens as Chicago cops swarm in to crack the skulls of rioters and looters. It ends with a catastrophic explosion that levels a city block in Paris and mutilates the body of the movie’s titular hero. In between all that, against a backdrop of Cold War intrigue and superpower paranoia run amok, we see scenes involving overt racist mockery, rape as a spectator sport, sacrilege, poisoning, prostitution, assassination, the sexist degradation of women and a pervasive attitude of unmitigated cynicism and ridicule toward the aspirations of the USA as a bulwark of liberty, democracy and decency against the forces of tyranny and oppression around the world. All the necessary ingredients for a robust satirical take-down of good old fashioned patriotism, American-style! The politics are radical, the humor is often guttural, and the...

After a week off from the traditional Legends of Tomorrow episode we get right back into the traditional format. Last week's episode "Legion of Doom" was a nice surprise to see an episode focus on the villains and Thawne's motivation to obtaining the Spear of Destiny. Out of all the CW shows right now the Legion of Doom are by far the best villains. This weeks episode saw the effects of Rip Hunters mind being manipulated by Thawne. Rip fully aware of his past now has a different perspective of his past actions. What was once an idea of a noble cause was now change to a series of regrets.
This caused the team to have to go up against the man who recruited most of them to join him on a journey to fix time. The backdrop for this episode was Christmas time 1776 when General George Washington is about...

As the release of the new Justice League of America series draws near, more information slowly comes to light. Just this week, writer Steve Orlando went into detail describing what it took to bring the likes of Batman, Lobo, Black Canary, the Ray, the Atom, Vixen, and Killer Frost together.
With a one-shot centered on Killer Frost looming, Comicosity continued probing Orlando and got him to say the following regarding her heroic turn:
“A lot of her character came from our artist Mirka Andolfo’s work, as my co-writer Jody Houser and I saw it develop on the page. Frost to me is an interesting character. A lot of of it is about owning what you’ve done and finding a way to move forward as an adult and as a person in the world.
“She was a promising scientist until an accident that she had no control over forced her to become something else.

Our salute to Steven Spielberg at 70 moves to the 2000s: A.I, Munich, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can & Crystal Skull.
By the end of the 1990s, Spielberg found himself in a position of unparalleled luxury. As an executive, he’d set up Amblin and DreamWorks and was enjoying success with both, while as a director he’d ridden through an uneven decade to achieve the critical success he’d longed for. Where do you go from there? What do you do when you’re the film-maker who’s done everything? Well, Spielberg himself never seemed sure of how to answer that question because during the first ten years of the new millennium he hopped from genre to genre, covering sci-fi and historical thriller, retro caper and fish-out-of-water comedy. Nine Lives is a film that’s dangerous to make these days, and that’s largely because Disney isn’t in it’s ’70s mode. That means efforts with fairly decent budgets and big stars that center around people turning into dogs, or field-goal-kicking mules, are looked down upon by everyone looking to take a shot at any film they can.
This is a fantastically goofy movie that, using some lens or another, has no redeeming qualities at all beyond the possible idea that the actors are actually performing their roles rather well. It’s not an uncommon lens, and there aren’t many who are particularly championing things like The Shaggy D.A. (especially when 2006’s Tim Allen remake The Shaggy Dog hit), but these family-friendly charmers don’t deserve the dissection they usually get these days.

And then there were three.
There are three members to the Legion of Doom as of the end of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 8, and a surprising character return. Sort of.
Essentially, we were given some Christmas gifts, but were they as impressive as they could have been?
The best thing about the hour was the way Ray and Nate continued to bond.
One moment they were scrapping like two ten-year-old boys and the next they were giggling together while making fun of "mom" aka Sara.
Their sibling rivalry easily delivered the best Legends of Tomorrow quotes throughout the hour, as well.
Nate: That's Eliot Ness.
Ray: Pfft. Doesn't look like Kevin Costner.

Being the second DC film to arrive in 2016 to have been met with mixed feelings by moviegoers, Suicide Squad arguably has the advantage over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in that it was leggier at the box office and seemingly caught on more when it came to merchandising, along with inspiring legions of cosplayers.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to like about this movie, but there’s also quite a bit that I found to be less than satisfactory. Director David Ayer brought an expected sense of gritty realism to the film along with a certain gravitas needed when bringing so many iconic supervillains to life, many of which are appearing on the big screen for the very first time. He obviously had a clear vision for the adaptation, but it was quite obvious that the studio had other ideas after BvS didn’t exactly...

The first of only three films for which Peter Fonda took up residence in the director's chair – the others being Idaho Transfer (1973) and Wanda Nevada (1979) – unconventional western The Hired Hand (1971)is the jewel of the triad. A couple of fleeting outbursts of violence aside, it's heavy on gentle drama and light on shoot-'em-up action, as such more a thinking man’s western than one whose white hats and blackguards are clearly defined from the outset and proceed to serve up a profusion of rapid-fire gunfights with bounteous squirts of ketchup.

For those of you who haven't watched five years of Arrow and only tuned in for the mega-crossover event, this hour might have been confusing for you.
Because while Arrow Season 5 Episode 8 was certainly a continuation of the crossover that began in earnest on The Flash Season 3 Episode 8, it was also a 100th episode celebration, which is why very specific characters were beamed up to the alien ship.
The question is whether or not "Invasion!" was a fun and satisfying watch that met demands as both part of the crossover and the 100th episode.

Believe it or not, it's kind of easy for me to stand back from this one from a crossover standpoint, because I stopped watching Arrow. Oh, I still know what's going on with the series because I read all the reviews. I'm the editor!

How fun was that? We're total suckers for alternate universes and dead characters, so tonight's 100th episode of Arrow was right up our alley. As it turns out, those aliens who came to earth in last night's episode of The Flash can do more than just turn friends against each other. They can also create entire worlds to convince Oliver, Diggle, Sara, Thea, and Ray that they're living in a world where Oliver, Sara, and Mr. Queen never got on the boat that led to the birth of the Green Arrow. In this world, Oliver and Laurel are about to get married. The wedding brings nearly everyone to town, including Sara, which allows for a beautiful reunion between Sara and...

When you first heard that Pete’s Dragon was coming to theaters, you probably expected something that would become one of the biggest films of the year. Of course, the cynical among us probably expected something to ruin their childhood.
Either way, once Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford were attached, you had to take notice. But, in a year that was filled with bizarre disappointments, the movie didn’t take off the way it deserved.
Well, it’s headed home, and if you didn’t catch it in theaters, you really want to mark your calendars, because I know a lot of younger audiences didn’t get a chance to see this, and they’re going to love it. The release is pretty loaded with bonuses too, but in keeping with the current trend, they may not be things that younger viewers are especially interested in.

With DC recently following in the footsteps of Marvel by having an onscreen shared universe, various characters being granted cameos in movies not their own will now apparently be the norm at WB. Sometimes this can feel shoehorned in and other times it can feel quite organic, while also succeeding in exciting fans. Such was the case with The Flash’s guest appearance in Suicide Squad.
It’s no secret that many of the villains who partook in this team-up film that showcased many subtle levels of morality have had run-ins with Batman in the past. Captain Boomerang, however, can’t really count himself among their number because he is, in fact, a member of The Flash’s fabled Rogues. As such, it made sense the Scarlet Speedster be the one to apprehend him, making for a more seamless cameo than the one seen in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The Ice Age franchise is unbelievably 14 years old at this point, and the fifth film, Ice Age: Collision Course, brings together most of everything we’ve seen in the past for a last hurrah.
This time around Scrat actually manages to kick off the adventure, stumbling onto a spaceship and launching himself into space, ultimately causing a massive asteroid to head toward Earth.

Manny (Ray Ramano) heads to the overplayed, “not good enough for my daughter” well, while also forgetting his anniversary. Sid (John Leguizamo) only has a story that is vaguely distinct from his general mopey, goofball attitude, this time aimed specifically at his lack of ability to find a mate. It's been tossed around that DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 1 could be looked at as a bit of a series restart instead of a second season premiere.
That's all well and good in for newbies just getting acquainted with the series, but for those of us who have already been through a season, this was repetitive and not nearly as entertaining as it could have (should have) been.
So what did the premiere do well? At least one thing.
The introduction of Nate Heywood felt natural to the story that was being told. It's pretty easy to imagine the Legends would somehow get into a predicament that would leave them stranded in time and in need of rescue.
Right off the bat, we learned Nate is no dummy. He went to Oliver because he knew Sara and Ray were friends of his (and/or the Green Arrow's) and when Oliver started to protest,...

Midnight Run is one of those rare movies that doesn’t exactly take the world by storm upon release, but still manages to influence the film world, and becomes a must-see classic.
It’s hard to believe that it was 1988 when the ‘buddy cop’ and ‘road trip’ genres got this refreshing revitalization, but the film holds up exceptionally well. It may have a few oddities for the latest generation, but nothing actually problematic, and the humor is timeless. It may have a slightly “awkwardly-80s” feel to it, but with minor adjustments it might have been made today.
De Niro’s effort here telegraphed a lot of the choices he made over the rest of his career, trying even almost 30 years ago to stay out of the pigeonhole. Meanwhile, Grodin has possibly his best role, and one that works so well with his ability to jump from deadpan to outlandish,...

Before I watched the film, I had heard comments like “Indian epic,” “one of the best Asian films ever produced,” “a true masterpiece” and other similar characterizations, which usually make me suspicious, to say the least. However, in this case, every dithyramb was absolutely true as “Gangs of Wasseypur” is one of the best gangster films ever produced.
The script, which stretches over 5 hours, tells the story of the family of Khans over 5 generations and their adventures in the city of Wasseypur, where mafia wars and lawlessness seem to be the rule. Starting in the 40s with Shahid Khan, the story then moves on Sardar Khan, who found his apogee in the 70s, and ends with one of his sons, Faizal, and Definite, Sardar’s son from a different woman. Green Arrow, The Flash, the Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl will not be acquiring another superfriend in the foreseeable future.
“We weren’t expecting to have four [superhero shows] this season,” The CW president Mark Pedowitz told TVLine on Thursday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, referring to the Girl of Steel’s arrival. “Supergirl came thanks to the parent company [CBS] bringing it over to the CW — ‘I said where can I sign up?’ — so at this time, there are no real discussions about any [additional] superhero characters.”
