After a second man was charged in connection with the theft of a pair of ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, the shoes worn by Judy Garland are going up for auction.
Collector Michael Shaw, who owned the slippers when they were stolen, was reunited with the priceless piece from the 1939 film on Sunday during a private ceremony at the Judy Garland Museum. He had loaned the pair to the museum in August 2005 for what was meant to be a 10-week viewing tied to the annual Judy Garland Festival, but the shoes were swiped a week later.
Upon receiving the sequin-covered shoes nearly 20 years later, Shaw has decided to hand them to Heritage Auctions, which will take the famed slippers on a world tour, including stops in Los Angeles, New York City, London and Tokyo. Afterwards, the shoes will go up for auction in December.

Planet Hollywood launched with tremendous fanfare in New York City on 22 October, 1991. An instant success, the movie-themed burger joint boasted an array of production made and screen-used memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant. The New York Times headline the following day read, “Fantasy For the Price of a Burger.” Each Planet Hollywood location served as a mini-museum devoted to the movies and the investors behind the venture included a who’s who of 90s stars, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The genius marketing strategy presented the opportunity to experience movie magic, from the props and costumes that defined audiences’ favourite films, to the thrill of potentially spotting a celebrity in the flesh.

The infamous costume worn by George Clooney in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin” will soon be up for auction. And the defined nipple suit is just the tip of the “Batman” memorabilia available on which to bid.
As part of Heritage Auctions’ Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction during July 22 through 23, iconic ’90s “Batman” props will be available to purchase. Jim Carrey’s Riddler cane from “Batman Forever” has a starting bid of 8,000 and Jack Nicholson’s purple Joker suit from Tim Burton’s “Batman” can be yours for at least 65,000.
Yet the crown jewel of the collection remains the nipple suit, opening at 40,000 and expected to go much higher in bidding. The 1997 Batman costume is constructed of cast foam latex, vinyl, resin components, and leather, per the auction house. The suit was “all expertly painted, finished and assembled on a life-size pose-able mannequin with a hyper-realistic George Clooney head with prosthetic grade false eyes.

Exclusive: The wild story behind the heist of Dorothy’s iconic ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz is the subject of a new podcast series hosted by Seyward Darby and Ariel Ramchandani.
No Place Like Home is a limited run podcast docuseries that comes from Audacy-backed C13Originals.
Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the classic movie are among the most iconic and nostalgic objects in Hollywood movie history, a rare collector’s item worth millions. And in the summer of 2005, a pair was stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in the small town of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Garland’s hometown. They were missing for about thirteen years until one day they mysteriously reappeared in an FBI sting operation. Although the shoes were eventually recovered, there are more questions left than answers. The FBI still hasn’t announced who stole them, where they went, or the circumstances surrounding their return.

Good Morning America meteorologist Ginger Zee took a tour of Reynolds’ California estate, which is just down the road from Fisher’s eclectic abode, and although it’s not quite as colorful as her daughter’s, the Hollywood icon’s house still has plenty of character — and characters.
“Todd Fisher gives us a tour of Debbie Reynolds’ home,” Zee wrote in a post on Instagram documenting the private walk-through with Reynold’s son and Fisher’s brother.

Joe Maddalena's Profiles in History will be auctioning a collection of 59 still photographs of two of Alfred Hitchcock's last silent films, "The Mountain Eagle" and "The Manxman." The collection provides irrefutable proof that "The Mountain Eagle" existed -- it has long been one of the most searched-for films in history, and until now no documentation of the film had been discovered. One review in 1926 claimed "The Mountain Eagle" was "far superior to 'The Lodger,'" which is often considered Hitchcock's finest silent film. The photos up for bid are no publicity stills; these are custom-printed in oversized formats, intended exclusively for Hitch's personal archives in the 1920s. The auction will take place December 15 & 16 in Los Angeles. For L.A. dwellers interested in Hitchcock's silent work, on November 29 the Academy unveils the director's sixth film, "The...

Whether you’re an amateur writer looking for inspiration or a fan of all things Dracula, wouldn’t you love to own the desk where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula? Profiles in History just announced that the desk will be part of their Hollywood Auction this December:
Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is proud to announce that the desk where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula will be a part of their Hollywood Auction on December 15 & 16.
It was at this desk that Irish borth author Bram Stoker (1847-1912) created the most famous literary character in the world — Dracula (published in 1897). At the beginning of the last century, Stoker gave this historic desk to his close friend Jsr Phillips, editor of the Yorkshire Post. The author often stayed with Phillips at his home in Balmoral, Headingley, Leeds. Over the past century, the desk had become battered, with the drawers missing and its legs being sawn short.

Every title in the 23-film franchise is represented in the collection, with a vast range of regular-release posters, stills and other ephemera (such as lobby cards, scripts and pressbooks) for each film. Exceptionally rare posters will be up for auction as well, including the very first "Dr. No" poster to appear in public, and the "From Russia with Love" original world premiere artwork from 1963, which is expected to bring in between $10K and $15K from the lucky 007-fanatical bidder with money to burn. The entire collection is estimated at more than $200K. A few more of the gems.

"Star Wars" came to "Hollywood Treasure" (Tue., 10 p.m. Et on Syfy) Tuesday night as auctioneer Joe Maddalena got his hands on a camera that was used to shoot the first in the epic movie franchise.
"Star Wars" star Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd brought him the Panavision camera, and Todd knew it was valuable. So valuable, in fact, that he set his own high reserve price: "I want you to give me a guarantee of $100,000."
Todd also threw in a green dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in "Bus Stop." The dress fetched a whopping $230,000 at auction, but that seemed like chump change compared to the sale price for the camera.
How much for a piece of "Star Wars" history? It sold for a jaw-dropping $520,000, which, Maddalena said, made it "the most expensive 'Star Wars' collectible item of all time"

On the season premiere of "Hollywood Treasure" (Tue., 10 p.m. Et on Syfy) auctioneer Joe Maddalena got his hands on a legendary piece of Hollywood history: Judy Garland's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz."
Although four pairs of the slippers are known to exist, these were the actual ones that Garland clicked her heels in during the "there's no place like home" scene at the end of the movie.
The slippers had "Judy Garland" written in the lining and, most excitingly of all, "what appear to be very slight circular scuff marks. And that would of course be from when Judy -- clicking her heels."
How much for the iconic footwear? A whopping $2 million.

Maybe some of that movie storytelling magic is rubbing off, because Syfy's "Hollywood Treasure" launches its new season on Tuesday, May 22, by spotlighting the Holy Grail of Tinseltown collectibles: Dorothy's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz."
As most "Oz" fans know, there actually is a handful of known pairs of these slippers, including an Arabian-style pair never used in the film that were auctioned off last season as part of Debbie Reynolds' collection. But the footwear that Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History, auctions in this new episode is the pair shown when Judy Garland's Dorothy clicks her heels together to go home.
"They arguably are the most important pair, because the pair in the Smithsonian and a pair that were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum were mismatched," Maddalena tells Zap2it. "I've done this 26 years now, and a couple of years ago when my...

The small North Carolina village that doubled as District 12 in The Hunger Games is up for auction after failing to sell on the property market.
The Henry River Mill Village, which was abandoned in 1987, was put up for grabs at $1.4 million (£880,000) earlier this year because owner Wade Shepherd was tired of tourists visiting the movie set "day and night".
Joe Maddalena, the owner of Hollywood auction house Profiles in History, has since acquired the Henry River Mill Village property, which will be auctioned off via sealed bids with a bidding deadline of 31 July.
The property is valued in excess of $1.2 million (£750,000).
Maddalena tells WENN, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity."
The auction boss' acquisition of the District 12 site will feature on an upcoming episode of reality TV show Hollywood Treasure.
He adds, "The property exists exactly as it is seen in the film, from the bakery owned by Peeta Mellark’s family to the house where Katniss Everdeen and her sister Prim lived. It is all there. Production came into the town and shot directly on site and didn’t need to change a thing."...

So happy and yet so sad at the same time. Syfy has just announced its spring schedule, and surprise! The final season of fan favorite Eureka will premiere not in the summer as it usually does, but on April 16. The sooner the better, we say, and we can’t wait.
According to the announcement there are some great shows coming our way, including the second season of Lost Girl, a Treasure Island miniseries, the premieres of Monster Man, Dream Machines, and Total Blackout, the return of Ghost Hunters, Hollywood Treasure, and Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, and of course some Saturday Original Movies. Syfy has announced another acquisition to their reality roster, as they've picked up Dream Machines, set to premiere late spring/summer 2012. Dream Machines, which was given a six episode order, follows two brothers (Marc and Shannon Parker) who recreate famous vehicles in movies and television (i.e. the Bat Pod, the motorcycle from Tron) for an assorted mix of clients. Think of Dream Machines as the West Coast Choppers for the science fiction savvy, if you will.
Returning to the air at the same time that Dream Machines will be Hollywood Treasure and Haunted Collector, both of which aired their first season this past summer. Hollywood Treasure, also getting a six episode order, focuses on Joe Maddalena, a famous auctioneer of movie and TV artifacts, and his quest to find the rarest of rare traces of pop culture past. Fans of SyFy’s canceled Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica, will be happy to know that the final five episodes of the series’ season 1.5 will be televised back-to-back in January 2011. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 4th at 6pm Et, folks.
Executive producer David Eick was surprised that the show fell to the cancelation ax and that the network would pull the remaining episodes from their scheduled air times this month:
“I understand that these are rarely simple decisions and I know the current leadership at Syfy genuinely loved the show and were hell-bent on protecting it and seeing it succeed. Caprica was an extremely smart, unique show and it’ll take quite some time for me to get used to the idea that it’s really gone.”
