From eighth billing to bankable leading lady, Immaculate director Michael Mohan has played a key role in Sydney Sweeney’s rise to superstar status.
In 2017, Mohan helped cast Sweeney in the ‘90s coming-of-age series, Everything Sucks!, and while she was only billed eighth in the closing credits, her character played an integral part in the show’s central coming-out story. Mohan was certainly impressed by the Washington native’s acting ability, but it was her extracurricular efforts that indicated she was bound for great things, as she spent her downtime learning the ins and outs of production. Unfortunately, in April 2018, despite a passionate fanbase, Everything Sucks! became one of Netflix’s first of many more heartbreaking cancellations. However, within a matter of months, it opened the door for Sweeney to join the cast of HBO’s eventual hit, Euphoria.

"Euphoria" and "The White Lotus" star Sydney Sweeney has been having a pretty stellar moment. While the actor has been performing since childhood, her star has been shooting across the sky in the last few years. Just last year, she starred in the thrilling drama "Reality" for HBO and the box office smash hit "Anyone But You," and is kicking off her 2024 by entering Sony's Spider-Man Universe with "Madame Web." But becoming Spider-Woman isn't the only exciting venture on Sweeney's horizon. She's also reteaming with director Michael Mohan once again, this time for the horror film "Immaculate."
With a script by Andrew Lobel, "Immaculate" is a psychological horror film wherein Sweeney plays Cecilia, a nun who is given the opportunity to join an illustrious convent in Italy. Her new home seems absolutely perfect until strange things begin happening around the convent, including what appears to be an immaculate conception.

After seeing political commentators spout extreme rhetoric about a mass shooting, Lola Blanc wondered: do they actually believe any of it? That question served as the creative impetus behind her brand new short film, Pruning, starring the one and only, Madeline Brewer. Talking heads like Tomi Lahren became the basis from which the rest of the film grew.
In its original inception, Pruning was not a body-horror film at all. It was a character study. Co-written with Jeremy Radin, the film examines the social and moral implications of extremist beliefs. Blanc utilizes horror elements to tell the tale of a right-wing commentator named Sami Geller (Brewer) who struggles with her conscience and being a mouthpiece for the alt-right. “We had outlined a version of it, and we were like, ‘It’s just not getting at the thing enough–the horror that this really should be capturing.’ So we dug a little deeper.

As horror fans know all too well, sometimes the most terrifying monsters are places: Riverdale (the town with pep that’s also the murder capital of the world), Hill House (whatever walks there walks alone), Twin Peaks, Salem’s Lot — atmospheric horror wreathes these landmarks and towns. There’s not one beast to eradicate, everything is infected.
Such is the case with the upcoming horror podcast Borrasca, which was created by The Haunting of Hill House writer Rebecca Klingel and stars Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead in the dark, campy Archie Comics TV series Riverdale.

Grey's Anatomy is coming up on its historic, record-breaking 332nd episode, making it the longest-running primetime medical drama ever, so naturally we've been on high alert for any potential twists and unexpected curveballs that showrunner Krista Vernoff might toss our way. Now, a new theory suggests that Jo, played by Camilla Luddington, could be involved in a surprise connection - could she be related to Betty (Peyton Kennedy), also known as Britney? A new theory from Reddit user fivedaysthatsaweek makes a compelling case for it.
To give you some context, in last week's episode, "I Want a New Drug," we see Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) attempting to break the record for the longest surgery ever at Grey-Sloan Memorial. She's nearly interrupted when over 50 addicts are brought in with opiate overdoses due to taking laced pills, with one of them being Betty Britney. Teddy (Kim Raver) is able to save Britney during surgery,...

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy will definitely earn having the phrase “long-running” in front of it now. Thursday’s episode, “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” will be its 332nd, officially making the ABC Studios series, now in the midst of its 15th season, the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history. It is passing NBC’s ER.
Grey’s, which had its season order increased in January to 25 episodes, remains a strong earner for ABC in ratings performance, popularity and longevity. It went into its winter hiatus averaging a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating (Live+7) to rank as the network’s No. 1 TV show of the 2018-2019 season in the demo. It also regularly ranks among the top most binged series on streaming.
Grey’s already tied ER as the longest-running primetime medical drama ever at 15 seasons apiece. However, ER produced 22 episodes or less in every season except the first, which...

Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We've got some pretty good news to share with you guys about your favorite show. This is sort of indirect, great news for the show because it comes as a result of some negative news for ABC in regards to how they performed as whole in the ratings this past Thursday night, October 18, 2018. As most of you are aware by now, Grey's Anatomy did not air this past Thursday for reasons we're not totally aware of. We think it was probably just one of their planned breaks to keep the scheduling on track. Whatever the case, we are hearing that Grey's Anatomy's absence from ABC's primetime line up that night did not bode well for the network. According to TheWrap.com ,which is the gossip department for the New York Post, ABC dropped from third to fourth place among the big networks in network ratings that night.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about tonight’s Season 14 finale of Grey’s Anatomy.
With the end of another season of Grey’s Anatomy comes the end of an era for longtime beloved characters Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew). As Deadline exclusively reported back in March, Capshaw and Drew will not be returning to ABC and Shondaland’s cornerstone medical drama after this season.
The past couple of episodes have teased out the reason behind Arizona’s exit — her desire to move to New York to be closer to her daughter’s mother, Callie (who left the series after Season 12). As for Kepner, it was revealed tonight in the Season 14 finale that after her near-death accident in the penultimate episode, she quits her job at Grey-Sloan Memorial to do “God’s work” by providing medical care to the homeless. On top of that,...

Grey's Anatomy Season 14 Episode 21 was no exception with its topical take on the #MeToo movement.
A familiar face also dropped in to stir up some trouble, and Meredith and Jackson came together to help Catherine resolve the scandal.
Join TV Fanatics Paul Dailly, Stacy Glanzman, and Jasmine Blu as they discuss the hour.
What would you grade the execution and resolution of the #MeToo storyline?
Paul: I think it was a timely storyline that was executed very well. I would grade it A. If any show was going to tackle #MeToo, it was going to be Grey's Anatomy.
Stacy: I would give it a B, only because they wrapped it up too early. I was expecting it to have longer lasting ramifications, at least through the end of the season. It was a good resolution, but it felt too easy.

Netflix has renewed “Alexa & Katie” for a second season, the streaming giant announced Monday.
The first season of the series launched on March 23. The multi-camera sitcom follows the titular best friends through their freshman year of high school. Alexa (Paris Berelc) is undergoing cancer treatment, but makes it through thanks to her outgoing personality and the help of her best friend Katie (Isabel May). At times they’re left feeling like outsiders, during a period when what seems to matter most is fitting in. Tiffani Thiessen stars as Lori, Alexa’s determined and protective mother. The series also stars Emery Kelly, Eddie Shin, Jolie Jenkins, and Finn Carr.
Heather Wordham created the series and will take over as showrunner on Season 2. Her previous credits include “Hannah Montana” and “Reba.” Matthew Carlson was the showrunner on Season 1.
News of the series’ renewal comes just days after Netflix axed the high school comedy series “Everything Sucks!

I guess audiences just aren't into the 90s as much as Netflix thought. After only one season, the streaming service canceled the 90s set series Everything Sucks! and I'm kinda bummed out by that. I actually enjoyed the show and thought it was entertaining.
The series was created by Ben York Jones and Michael Mohan and the show followed two groups of high school misfits from the A/V club and a Drama club who join forces to make a movie in 1996 Oregon. There were also a few coming-of-age subplots involving the growing pains of being a young teenager in high school.
THR explained that the show "made waves within the Lgbt community but struggled to cut through to mass appeal despite a small group of loyal and vocal supporters. The series was particularly praised for its lesbian representation as it followed young Kate Messner's (Peyton Kennedy) coming-out process."

The cast, producers and fans of the Netflix comedy/drama Everything Sucks! will not let the series go gently into that good night of cancellations. Reactions were fast and furious online to the news that the 1990s-set series from writers Ben York Jones (Like Crazy) and Michael Mohan (Save the Date) was being axed by Netflix after one season.
Created by Jones and Mohan, the series followed two groups of high school misfits, an A/V club and a drama club, who collide in 1996 Oregon. It starred Peyton Kennedy and Jahi Winston as students Kate Messner and Luke O’Neil, with Patch Darragh and Claudine Nako as their respective parents. The series also featured Sydney Sweeney (Emaline), Elijah Stevenson (Oliver), Quinn Liebling (Tyler) and Rio Mangini (McQuaid).
The series fit into Netflix’s 1990s nostalgia theme along with Fuller House, a follow-up to the popular 1990s sitcom Full House.

Netflix has canceled coming-of-age dramedy Everything Sucks after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
The 1990s-set series, a Netflix production, hailed from writers Ben York Jones (Like Crazy) and Michael Mohan (Save the Date) and producers Midnight Radio. It had premiered to mixed reviews.
Said Everything Sucks Ep Jeff Pinkner of Midnight Radio: “We’re super proud of the show we made — and very proud that it found an audience of very passionate fans, for many of whom it became an important personal touchstone: either reflecting their current life, or an echo of their own teenage years. We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity, but are very disheartened we won’t be continuing to tell these stories.”

“The truth of the matter is, a country where the youth are silent — that country is on its way down. Not even on its way down, it’s dead. I’m not sure if you noticed, but “Everything Sucks!” takes place in the ’90s. I know, I know. It’s quite a revelation, given how subtly the new Netflix comedy incorporates its period appropriate props and dialogue. But among the many, many casual and clunky references to an emerging narrative source of millennial nostalgia, two nods to the decade that gave us the Macarena and Crystal Pepsi are actually, you know, important.
[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Everything Sucks!” Season 1, including the ending.]
And they both occur around the same time: Near the end of the first season, the Av and Drama clubs of Boring High School take an unexpected field trip to Dominguez Rocks, a canyon nestled northwest of Santa Clarita, CA. (Sadly, there’s no synergistic Drew Barrymore cameo.) They’re on a mission to complete their school movie, but the key references have nothing to do with blue aliens and low-budget special effects.
What first stands out is Blockbuster.

“Everything Sucks!” has a very simple problem that could — but likely won’t — be remedied should future seasons come to pass: It’s too obsessed with the ’90s. Filled with slap bracelets and Zima, “Beavis and Butthead” impressions and “Pulp Fiction” speeches, a soundtrack cribbed from “Now That’s What I Call Music” Vols. 33 – 37 and baggy clothes any grunge kid would’ve been proud to wear to a Nirvana concert, the Netflix original series manufactures too many moments solely to reference a decade only recently being mined for ‘member berries.
While that can work for plenty of period pieces — just look how well “Stranger Things” utilized its ’80s aesthetic — here it’s at the expense of a heartfelt story in need of more earnest attention. All the “as ifs” and “Run Forrest, run!”‘s spoil a unique and stirring coming out story (not to mention a compelling performance from Peyton Kennedy...

The nostalgia factor is high in Netflix's new comedy Everything Sucks! The high school comedy is set in 1996 in Boring, Oregon (a real town) and features all the things people loved (and hated) about the decade, from the music to the fashion. Well, things people except the show's cast loved and hated. For the most part, the young stars including Peyton Kennedy and Jahi Winston were all born sometime in the 2000s. This show required research. "I really studied the fashion," Winston told E! News. "We got a list sent to us, of movies and TV shows to watch," Sydney Sweeney said. "We all got together and watched a lot of them." "But other than that, we just needed to bring our...

Nothing about Everything Sucks! follows the title's lead.
My most recent foray into teenage life was with the aptly titled The End of the F***ing World, and though there were subtle hints of redemption for two unbearably dour and lost lead characters, it didn't paint a picture of hope for today's youth.
My expectations for a series in which everything sucks were tempered, and I was prepared to weather the storm of teenage angst with little hope the characters would make it out of the season with all their faculties intact.
Instead, Everything Sucks! is a warm and heartfelt look at the other side of teenage life, the kids who support each other through rough times and have enough hope to survive even some of life's most brutal embarrassments.

Netflix has released a big trailer for their new 90s-set show, Everything Sucks!, which is likely to tug at every nostalgic heartstring...
While the insane array of original series on Netflix probably can’t be accurately categorised by any one offering, the streaming giant has taken a special shine to nostalgia, evidenced by the embracing of the 1980s-era idiosyncrasies of Stranger Things, its fostering of the 2001 (early 1980s-set) cult film Wet Hot American Summer into a television franchise, as well as Full House spinoff Fuller House. However, teen comedy series Everything Sucks! brandishes a mantra that fits in the angsty era in which it will take place: the 1990s.
Here's the first trailer...
Amongst the array of 1990s iconography and tropes lies an irreverent take on the high school experience, that – in a comparison that can’t be evoked enough – is clearly reminiscent in tone...

A high school comedy set circa 1996, “Everything Sucks!” is Netflix’s comedic answer to “Stranger Things,” with a little hint of “Freaks and Geeks” thrown in for good measure.
