True crime content is easily accessible no matter how you prefer to consume it.
As soon as a horrific crime has been committed, a network (usually Investigation Discovery) is chasing the story to turn it into the next big docu-hit. With little holding these networks back legally or financially, they can quickly produce compelling, detailed docuseries.
The question is: should they?
It's a complicated question, and we're not the first to ask it.
The voyeuristic obsession with some of the most unfathomable horrors that could happen to a person isn't new.
More than a century ago, people were desperate to learn new facts about the Jack the Ripper case as soon as they were revealed, and writers and publishers were happy to oblige.
There seem to be two leading schools of thought surrounding the ethics of this kind of media.

In 2014, Naomi Watts voiced an animated version of herself in the “BoJack Horseman” episode “One Trick Pony.” The Watts in Hollywoo — the “BoJack” stand-in for the entertainment industry’s epicenter, inhabited mostly by anthropomorphic animals — is starring opposite BoJack in a biopic about his frenemy, Mr. Peanutbutter. She appears on set preparing to play Diane, a burgeoning writer. The meta joke is the actress accepted the part to get a break from emotionally draining, praiseworthy performances.
“I just keep getting pigeonholed as these complex characters in highly acclaimed movies,” the animated Watts bemoans to a character who is a parody of host Ryan Seacrest (A Ryan Seacrest Type). “For once, I would just love to phone it in and play a two-dimensional girl in a rom-com with no inner life of her own. That’s kind of the reason I got into this business.”
Ten years later, that tongue-in-cheek guest appearance now feels almost prophetic.

Earlier this month, an image cinematographer Christian Sebaldt shared on Instagram indicated that Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) was finally, after years of development and a thirteen-year gap between sequels, heading into production. The next day, producer Craig Perry took to social media to confirm that Final Destination: Bloodlines is indeed filming, the aim being to get this one into theatres in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. Now, it’s been revealed that the long anticipated sequel has officially wrapped principal photography. Once again, the announcement came courtesy of Perry. The film stars Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee. It also features the return of Tony Todd in his iconic role as William Budworth, who was in the first,...

In the world of comic book movies, there has never been a stranger relationship than the one between Jon Watts and Spider-Man. One of the most critically as well as commercially favored and strongest IPs of Marvel Comics, Spider-Man’s entry into the MCU was placed in the hands of a creator with the strangest IMDb credits under his directorial section.
Known for directing music videos, shorts, a claymation movie, and television series, Watts couldn’t have been placed at a more substantial position and with a more high-risk, high-reward IP than directing Spider-Man’s first debut under the Marvel banner after the controversial 12-year-long saga at Sony.

Andrew Garfield’s arc as Peter Parker in his The Amazing Spider-Man film series may have come to an abrupt end when fans were expecting more, but it still lives in their hearts nonetheless. This became apparent recently when Marvel fans jumped in the picture to remind everyone of his web-slinger saga by Marc Webbs after the shooting of the stunt scenes faced some criticism.
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in his own superhero film series.
This critical approach came from Jon Watts, the helmer of all three of Tom Holland’s movies as Parker, who recently shared some pretty bold advice for the next Spider-Man director regarding the slinging stunt scenes. But instead of gaining appreciation from fans for it, Watts instead faced criticism, with fans reminding him of how Garfield managed to pull those stunts off for his saga.

Spider-Man 4 May Feature the Same Suit Peter Parker Wore in No Way Home - Main Image
Peter Parker’s journey will continue in the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Though the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is expected to tell a new story, different from what the Home trilogy told, it may still feature the same suit Peter donned at the end of No Way Home.
The Spider-Man suit has been one of the most iconic costumes of recent years.
It has seen several iterations, from the black Spidey suit Tobey Maguire wore in the 2007 Spider-Man 3 to Tom Holland’s Iron Spider suit in the 2017 Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Peter Parker to Reportedly Don Familiar Suit in Spider-Man 4
No Way Home featured seven different Spider suits, including the ones Maguire and Garfield donned.
However, if there was one that became the most iconic, it was the suit that Peter created for himself.

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
Several months ago it was confirmed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in active development, at first rumors were circulating that Watts would return to direct it, but he ultimately moved on to other projects, just like Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.

The MCU has an extensive lineup of upcoming movies, despite recent bumps in quality. Discussions about reducing output have emerged due to fan fatigue with lower-quality content. However, Spider-Man remains a consistently lucrative franchise, drawing audiences regardless of format.

The latest rumors suggest that Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the next MCU installment. Additionally, according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is eyeing James Wan for the project.

While Ryan Coogler’s reputation in Hollywood is quite spectacular, the regard given to him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is at another level. He helped the franchise get its first two Oscar wins, as well as numerous award nominations, all through the masterpiece that was Black Panther. Arguably one of the best Marvel films to date, the project not only had an excellent director, but it also had some of the most talented people in the industry as a part of its cast and crew.
Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther
Considering how much acclaim the film got, it is not surprising that many trust the filmmaker with the movies that he makes. After the follow-up film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it was expected that he would finish the trilogy. However, it would seem that on top of the Wakandan films, he may also be heading one of the most...

Director Jon Watts stepped up to direct the three solo Tom Holland Spider-Man films that were wildly successful at the box office. The Home-trilogy was a perfect three-part story for Holland’s Spider-Man as he evolved from a young bubbly teenager to learning his responsibilities and dealing with a profound loss.
Jon Watts’ Home-trilogy ended on a high note with 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home
Watts delivered a much bigger and character-driven film with the trilogy than previous Spider-Man films. However, most fans did not find a distinctive visual style and flair that the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s films had. While many agree that Watts did a great job with his trilogy, the change of director for the 4th installment is a welcome change for some.

Skeleton Crew is arguably one of the more intriguing Star Wars projects heading our way, with very little known about how the series will fit into the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away (we've heard next to nothing since Star Wars Celebration attendees were treated to a brief sneak peek last April).
What we do know is that the Disney+ series focuses on a group of kids who get lost in space, with Jude Law cast in the lead role as a mysterious Jedi. With a confirmed post-Return of the Jedi setting, we also anticipate it somehow tying into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Collider (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke with director and executive producer Jon Watts and learned that Skeleton Crew is set to launch this holiday season. That presumably means a December launch.

The MCU has a lineup of upcoming movies, despite Marvel Studios facing challenges with recent projects. There’s been discussion about reducing the number of releases, as fans are growing weary of lower-quality shows and films. However, Spider-Man remains a consistent draw for audiences, being the most profitable Marvel franchise across various media.

When Marvel Studios enlisted Jon Watts to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming, he was a relative unknown. The filmmaker had helmed the low-budget Clown and Cop Car, but neither of those necessarily suggested he was a good fit to bring the wall-crawler into the MCU.
Like Sam Raimi and Marc Webb before him, Watts proved his detractors wrong by delivering a movie which scored glowing reviews and a spectacular $880.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Far From Home followed two years later and earned over $1.1 billion, and when Spider-Man: No Way Home eventually swung into theaters, it grossed a jaw-dropping $1.9 billion.
After devoting several years of his life to Spider-Man, Watts decided he needed a break from the MCU and gave up the chance to next take charge of The Fantastic Four. He's since shifted focus to upcoming Star Wars TV series, Skeleton Crew, and a new director will be brought on board for Spider-Man 4.

Ahead of the show’s release, Watts spoke about crafting a new experience in the Star Wars world through the series.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming series co-created by Jon Watts.

Tom Holland is at this point MCU veteran, with three stand-alone movies under his belt and few appearances in other projects, he is practically an essential part of the MCU going forward.

You might remember English actor Julian Glover for his role as Walter Donovan, the villain of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." A Nazi collaborator who wants the Holy Grail to achieve immortality, he meets a grisly end when he chooses ... poorly.
In his native England, Glover was a renowned member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In Hollywood, though? He's a 6'2 British man, so, of course, he plays the heels, even in his later roles like Pycelle on "Game of Thrones." (Who knows if he'll show up in "3 Body Problem" with his former co-stars.)
"Last Crusade" was not Glover's first rodeo with Lucasfilm; he had a much smaller role in "The Empire Strikes Back" as Imperial General Veers. The general only shows up in the film's first act, but he leads the At-at assault on the Hoth Rebel base (with some insert shots of him riding in the...

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 cannot seem to shake off the chaos surrounding its production. Sony and Marvel would love to bring back the web-slinger for a fourth film, as it was Spider-Man: No Way Home that gave their respective last billion-dollar film. However, the film hasn’t locked a director yet, with Jon Watts stepping away from the duties. One of the latest rumors suggested that Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man film series, will be helming the film.
Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film after No Way Home gets an upsetting update
However, one industry insider could confirm from his sources that Raimi is not a choice for the studios. The news is upsetting to some fans, who were excited about the director’s potential involvement due to the popularity of Tobey Maguire’s films.

Nicole Kidman’s friends and collaborators will be in the building when she is honored at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala.
AFI shared that Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon are set as presenters for the gala, scheduled to take place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on April 27.
Fellow AFI Life Achievement Award winner Streep worked with Kidman on HBO’s Big Little Lies, as did Witherspoon. Both Kidman and Witherspoon served as executive producers of the Emmy Award-winning hit series. Watts is a longtime friend of Kidman, dating back to their early acting careers. They both starred in the 1991 feature Flirting. Freeman and Kidman collaborated on the Paramount series Lioness for Taylor Sheridan.

Exclusive: Warner Bros Pictures has acquired Shannon Messenger’s bestselling book series Keeper of the Lost Cities, with Emma Watts set to produce.
Messenger’s series focuses on Sophie, a telepathic girl who must figure out why she is the key to a world that exists side by side with our own. She must do this before dark forces find the answer first, putting both worlds in jeopardy.
With nine installments and over 7 million copies sold worldwide so far, Messenger continues Sophie’s saga with the next installment, Unraveled, which will be published on November 12, 2024.
While the former production topper at Fox and Paramount has been in the mix for several of the big jobs in the past few years, it is easy to see how Watts can flourish in the role of producer of a literary property with franchise potential for Warner Bros. As an executive, she has shown a great eye for material,...

Marvel Studios has a bunch of new movies lined up, but lately, they’ve had some bumps in the road with their recent projects. People are saying they should slow down a bit with all these shows and movies that aren’t hitting the mark. But when it comes to Spider-Man, it’s a whole different story. He always brings in the crowds, making the Spider-Man franchise the biggest moneymaker for Marvel, no matter what they put out.
A while back, they announced they are working on ‘Spider-Man 4’. At first, folks thought Watts would be back to direct it, but he’s moved on to other stuff, along with Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.
According to World of Reel and their sources, Sam Raimi is the top pick for the job. He’s got the most experience, aside from Watts himself. Raimi’s already directed three ‘Spider-Man’ movies,...

Sony hopes to wash the taste of Madame Web out of people’s mouths with a new official Spider-Man that has the strength of the MCU behind it. The next entry of the Marvel Studios Spider-Man franchise has been carefully planning its next steps as No Way Home celebrated the web crawler’s film legacy, then ultimately took Peter Parker back to his smaller roots in the end as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. However, the previous trilogy director, Jon Watts, will not be returning to the new entry, so it’s now up in the air for who can take the reins.
World of Reel reveals that Sony and Marvel Studios are wanting to start production this fall, around September or October. However, they have not yet signed on a new director. It was reported last year that the front runner for the job in the wake of Watts stepping...

It’s the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter what.
Speaking of Spider-Man, in the MCU, there are already three standalone movies, and another one is on the way. Producer Amy Pascal confirmed this a while back. She said they were working on the sequel, but had to stop because of the WGA Strike. There were rumors going around a few months ago that the same director, Watts, would come back for the fourth one. But then people started saying Drew Goddard might take over instead.
Lately, there’s been talk that Jon Watts might not be directing ‘Spider-Man 4’ after losing a disagreement with Feige.

A CBS television station in California is suing a local police department that has refused to hand over police footage of an officer-involved shooting, in spite of a state law that requires them to do so.
The station, Kovr-tv (Channel 13) of Sacramento, says investigative reporter Julie Watts has tried to work with the Roseville Police Department to gain access to video footage that showed an officer-involved shooting involving 35-year-old Eric Abril last year.
On April 6, officers with the California Highway Patrol (Chp) tried to search an arrest warrant on Abril while he was walking his dogs in a Roseville park. Instead of complying, Abril fled from officers, engaging in a shootout before taking two elderly people hostage in an open field.

Murdoch Mysteries may be 17 seasons in, but it can still find ways to do something new. And in this case, that means a musical episode! TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek at the event. The episode, “Why Is Everyone Singing?” may not be airing until April 6 on Ovation in the U.S., but it will be debuting on March 25 on CBC in Canada. It was written by Paul Aitken and directed by Laurie Lynd. In the episode, while pursuing a missing man now presumed dead, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) takes a call that alters his perception of the world. After heading into a lively alley, he’s shot in the head and left for dead. Crabtree (Jonny Harris) and Higgins (Lachlan Murdoch) find him with the faintest pulse clinging to life. As Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Ogden (Hélène Joy), Watts (Daniel Maslany), and Hart (Shanice Banton) rush to the scene and the constables question a newsboy,...

Impressed by his work on Cop Car, Marvel brought Jon Watts to helm Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland. Following its success, the director was brought back to craft the next two sequels in the franchise with a much bigger scope than the first one, which was fairly a street-level film. But being a street-level film was one of Homecoming‘s biggest charms, as it helped the movie differentiate itself from other MCU IPs, and Marvel is reportedly looking to go that route again.
However, per reports, Sony was against this idea and wanted the fourth part to follow in No Way Home‘s footsteps by bringing Watts back, but it appears, it isn’t going in Sony’s favor this time.

“Cheech and I were on the Paramount lot after we’d done the movie, and we’re kind of trying to figure out what we were going to do next— how we were going to get another movie going,” remembers Tommy Chong of the weeks following the 1978 release of Up in Smoke, the first film from him and comedy partner Cheech Marin. “And Warren Beatty, pulls up in his convertible. He took off his sunglasses and looked at us and he goes, ‘You guys have no idea what you’ve done.’ And we looked at each other like thinking, ‘Oh, what did we do?’ What we did was we pulled a movie out of thin air.”
Up in Smoke, which was made independently by principals with no filmmaking experience, grossed over $100 million at the box office, simultaneously launching and proving the commercial value of the genre, all in one go.

[This story contains spoilers from episode seven of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.]
American socialite and former magazine editor Babe Paley was married to CBS founder William S. Paley for 31 years. But according to Naomi Watts, who portrays her in Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, her relationship with Truman Capote was the deepest romance she’d ever had — minus the sex.
“Babe gave herself to this man and all of her secrets,” Watts tells The Hollywood Reporter in the conversation below. “She really trusted him, thinking they were such close friends that he would never dare to expose them.”
It’s for that reason Capote’s actions led to Paley “just [coming] undone,” the star and executive producer had explained earlier in the season to reporters, including THR. As shown in the second season of the FX anthology series, Capote (played by Tom Hollander) reveals the most intimate details of the lives of Paley and the...

The Zone of Interest. When you start to really hear a movie, you’ll never be able to unhear it. The sound designer, like the cinematographer, is an artist disguised as a technician, a wielder of microphones and mixers whose deepest desire is to serve a cinematic vision. Sound design usually stays in the shadows, but sometimes a film comes along that really makes you listen: Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest (2023) is one of those films. Its soundscapes are intense, involving, and essential to our narrative comprehension of the film; this is sound design as storytelling, as counterpoint, as argument. The artist in disguise behind The Zone of Interest is Johnnie Burn, a British sound designer who, over the past decade, has carved a reputation as the ear of new auteur cinema. Through longstanding collaborations with Glazer and Yorgos Lanthimos (Burn is also behind the surreal soundscapes of...

“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” pits the incendiary author Truman Capote against a “gaggle” of New York socialites, but there is one “swan” that is truly at the heart of the roost, namely, Babe Paley, played by Naomi Watts. Since Babe is the closest of all the women to the writer, his betrayal of the group in 1975 in his scathing “Esquire” excerpt from his unfinished novel “Answered Prayers” hits her the hardest, and the other swans rally to her defense to ice the “In Cold Blood” scribe out of the upper echelons of society.
What makes the relationship between Babe and Truman so compelling—in addition to the performances of Watts and Tom Hollander—is how much we see of their friendship blossoming. The entire opening sequence of the season shows Capote comforting and strategizing with Babe over how to handle the latest and most disgraceful of her husband Bill’s (Treat Williams) infidelities.

The late Alan Watts, a philosopher, scholar, speaker, writer, and seminal figure in the counterculture of the Beat Generation, is getting a new publishing deal more than 50 years after his death.
Independent music publisher Third Side Music (Tsm) has signed a new global creative publishing deal with The Alan Watts Organization to foster creative music opportunities with Watts’ trove of 500+ hours of audio commentary, lectures, and radio programing for use in new songs by contemporary artists and in films, TV series, advertising, and other media.
In recent years, Watts recordings, commentaries, and other works have been used in campaigns for major brands such as Volvo, GoPro, Cunard Lines, X-box, Netflix, Uber, and Jack Daniels, among others. Although he was not a songwriter, he’s credited for lyrics on hundreds of songs, and his works have been incorporated into thousands of lyric videos on YouTube and social media.
