For some years now, Nicolas Cage has been a genre unto himself: desperate, deranged, deliciously cheesy, with that special mastery of dialogue that moves seamlessly from a panting whisper to a bellow and back again. Put Cage’s name above the title and your film has an immediate brand that not only rides over script glitches but does a full Fast and Furious speed-jump over the top of any yawning gaps in probability.
Nic Cage as a surfer dude? Unlikely, but who cares? Nic Cage as an Australian? “I thought you were American,” says someone he meets on the beach in The Surfer. So did we all, my friend. So, he moved to California in his teens and now he’s back, intent on buying back the house where he grew up, which is why he sounds straight outta Noo York? No one would swallow that one, but whatever!

The recent success of Netflix’s original animated ventures didn’t happen overnight, and a lion’s share of the credit should go to some of the streaming service’s earliest animated titles, Castlevania and Blood of Zeus. While the first one redefines the established game lore of the same name with a quasi-historical setting and modern sensibility, Blood of Zeus depends on the age-old formula of demigod legacy, challenging the established status quo of the divine creators, inspired by legends like Perseus or Hercules.
Free from the burden of stringent adherence to a singular lore, Greek mythology is effectively a treasure trove for experimentation on character dynamics. The makers of Blood of Zeus utilized this aspect in the best possible way as they took viewers through the journey of Heron and Seraphim while navigating through the world of gods and monsters, questioning the humanity of the associated characters the whole while.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has shown an array of villains and antagonists that have created a huge impact on the story, but none of them compare to Blackbeard. Blackbeard, also known as Marshall D. Teach is probably the last villain Luffy and The Straw Hat Pirates will encounter in their race to find the One Piece treasure.

Blackbeard has been one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece. He was introduced as a member of the Whitebeard Pirates who went rogue after killing his commander. Portgas D. Ace was hunting him. Initially, fans thought it to be an open-and-shut case. But as the story progressed, Eiichiro Oda started to open the knots, and the fans were left baffled.
There are several fan theories surrounding the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. Marshall D. Teach is the only character in One Piece to possess two Devil Fruit abilities. Most fans believe he has three Devil Fruits, the last of which is a mythical Zoan with the powers of a Cerberus. The latest fan theory adds to it by bringing forth new claims about Blackbeard’s split personality.
Blackbeard Has Split Personality Disorder Blackbeard – Marshall D. Teach

Even though 2017 may not seem that long ago, it’s a huge amount of time in terms of board game development and popularity. With that in mind, it’s incredible to think that the original Mythic Battles: Pantheon was one of the first games to achieve over a million dollars on Kickstarter, and now, several reprints and at least one major rules revision later, it remains among the most revered skirmish games ever made.
Mythic Battles: Pantheon is a two to four player miniatures game which comes with a ton of miniatures in the core box, and even more in the Pandora’s Box expansion – which is regularly bundled with the core game and contains all the Stretch Goals from the original Kickstarter. Between these two boxes, players will have something like forty or fifty units and well over a hundred miniatures split across them.

Experimental French filmmaker Bertrand Mandico isn’t for everyone — i.e. an acquired taste whose visions push boundaries of cinematic expression — but he’s achieved something of a cult fandom over the last three decades. After last pairing with the director on 2022’s “After Blue” and 2017’s uninhibited Venice winner “The Wild Boys” — Cahiers du Cinéma’s top film of 2018 — the distributor Altered Innocence again teams with Mandico on another provocation. His 2023 Cannes premiere “She Is Conann,” nominated for the Queer Palm before going on to play at other festivals including Locarno, is an acid-trip transgressive riff on the Conan the Barbarian myth. IndieWire shares the trailer here.
Influences on the film include Tony Scott’s “The Hunger,” the works of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Liliana Cavani’s “The Night Porter,” and Fellini’s “Satyricon.” Throw Ken Russell in there for good measure, with profane images in “She Is Conann” reminiscent of “The Devils.

Altered Innocence has picked up North American rights to Bertrand Mandico’s gory, transgressive fantasy movie “Conann,” which had its world premiere in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and will soon be making its way to Locarno Film Festival. Kinology is handling world sales.
The film will tour at film festivals throughout the fall and be released theatrically next year.
Following different iterations of the ruthless Connan the Barbarian, the film also stars Elina Löwensohn in canine prosthetics as Rainer, Conann’s spiritual guide.
In the film, guardian of the underworld, Cerberus, still has a muzzle, but here he is called Rainer, and has the breasts and the voice of a woman, wears a studded black leather jacket, and a flash camera fit for the paparazzi. Talking to us from the great beyond, he details the successive reincarnations of Conann the Barbarian, a bloodthirsty Amazon from ancient times.

In the right light, the stuff of everyday life can be imbued with mystery. In these moments lives are not just commonplace, instead, they feel tied back to older, more grandiose legacies. In Continuity of Parks, Russian Director Zhenia Kazankina imagines the heroes of Greek mythology to be living in Moscow’s 850th Anniversary Park, located on the vast metropolis’ outskirts. Combining a keen sense of observation with carefully choreographed sequences, her oddball sensibility – previously witnessed in deadpan border hotel drama Rio – comes to the forefront, creating a fascinating exploration of what happens when the normal meets the otherworldly. Told almost entirely in the twilight hour, Theseus, Cerberus and Aphrodite carry on in a world that feels both natural and oddly managed, weaving a magical spell that neatly treads the line between fiction and documentary. For today’s Continuity of Parks premiere, we invited Kazankina back to Dn to talk...

It’s hard to overstate how much I love RPGs. I love the robust character creation, the engaging mechanics, the beautiful stories, and the expansive worlds. But I have to admit something. Sometimes, I get a little tired of all the fantasy titles the genre is clogged with. You can hardly look at the RPG tag on Steam without being buried by bikini elves or grim-faced armor dudes. If I see another title like “Realms of Realmlore” I’m going to go feral.
Maybe you, like us, need a break from all the elves but still want all the great things an RPG provides. Then perhaps you want something darker. Perhaps you want to roll the dice, make a character, and feel the chill of dread creep up your spine. Perhaps, dear reader, you want a horror RPG.

One of a pair of films by Satoshi Miki which screened at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, and by far the stronger, this acutely observed, quirky tale of a bad deed which does not go unpunished begins with a fight. Kato (Ryo Narito) is at odds with girlfriend Zig-zag (Yuki Katayama) because she wants him to look after her dog, Cerberus, whilst she auditions for a role in a film. The dispute gets physical, in a playful way which emphasises the bond between the two of them, but Kato’s objection to dogsitting is real – he finds the good-natured beast a distraction from his writing as he tries to develop a screenplay which will change his destiny – and when Zig-zag gets the role, making it an ongoing arrangement, he decides to drive Cerberus out into the countryside and abandon him.

When it comes to Japanese comedies, few directors have made quite the impact. While some of his peers might have some of the more universally known titles under their belt, Miki has also left his mark with works such as “Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers”, “Adrift in Tokyo” and “Instant Swamp”. Being the member of a comedy group whose band of humor he once compared to Monty Python, he has emphasized the targets for laughter in his works are those tendencies, trends or moods within the culture of his home country which may be seen as odd or troublesome. His newest feature, “Convenience Story”, is no exception to the rule, with the story revolving around one of the cornerstones of Japanese culture, at least to the eye of the outsider, the 24/7-open convenience store seemingly promising an easy solution to one’s problems. The feature is also a collaboration of film critic Mark Schilling,...

Bravo isn't handling change well, is it?
Jason and Ray returned but it wasn't the same old Bravo Team on Seal Team Season 4 Episode 8.
Jason was handling things the worst of anybody.
He was craving the same old Bravo but things were different after his brush with domestic bliss and normal life.
Lt. Soto correctly noted that a Bravo built around Jason couldn't function adequately without Jason and that was a problem.
Jason wanted to run things as he always had under Blackburn but Soto was determined to create a more flexible model. And since Soto outranks Jason, anyone want to guess who wins that battle?
No wonder the two were clashing in every scene they were in together. This promises to continue to be a problem until the two reach some kind of detente.
And Jason is the one who is going to have to evolve because it appeared...

We bid farewell to Greendale (for now at least?) and explore what it all means.

As the credits rolled on the final chapter of the saga of Sabrina Spellman, she had given her life to protect all of existence itself. A noble death to be sure, but one that is steeped in permanence.
Or is it? For “The Sweet Hereafter” shares a more than passing resemblance to the nothingness aesthetic of “The Void,” giving the writers a potential loophole to exploit should this series somehow (hopefully) be resurrected. A little change of pace may be what's best for everyone.
Both Bravo Team and its former members were all struggling on Seal Team Season 4 Episode 3.
You take its best operators off the squad, and of course, its performance is bound to fall off.
How did Thirty Mike end up Bravo One? Was that a reward for shooting the terrorist chief on Seal Team Season 4 Episode 2?
I'm guessing so. It can't be for his people skills. Arrogance isn't a leadership quality. People have to want to follow a leader, and Mike is leading Bravo right into ruin.
Not that there's any other obvious candidate currently on Bravo.
Sonny is a knuckledragger who will run through a wall for his brothers. But no one has ever considered him to be a strategic thinker.
Trent, Brock, and Full Metal are background characters, and Pepper, well, is a dog. So they're all out.

It was well past time to shake things up, and maybe that's what's happening here.
Seal Team Season 4 Episode 1 and Seal Team Season 4 Episode 2 send several characters in new directions. Now let's see how long that lasts.
First, let's wish Cerberus a happy retirement.
Bravo's combat dog knew when it was time to get out. Being in the midst of war is difficult for any creature to handle, especially a canine that can't rationalize it as a human can.
I genuinely feared they were going to kill off Cerberus in Jason's arms. He's the character I'd most hate to see sacrificed.
Thirty Mike, sure, go ahead. He's obnoxious and already has the feel of the unit's redshirt. He's just hanging around until they need a very special episode, then he's gone.
Then they can bring in another disposable character to replace him. This is a war drama, after all, so...

About a month and a half after it made its debut online for premium video on demand, the animated film “Scoob!” will launch on HBO Max on June 26.
The animated “Scooby Doo” film debuted online on May 15 for $19.99 after its original June theatrical release date was scrapped. Warner Bros. hasn’t released digital box office numbers for how the kids movie has performed since its digital release, but it only makes sense that the new film could help draw eyes to the new streaming service, which launched shortly after “Scoob!” began its PVOD run.

This Chilling Adventures of Sabrina article contains nothing but spoilers. We have a spoiler-free review right here if you prefer.
With the excellent third season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina now streaming there’s a ton to unpack. The status quo in Greendale (and in hell for that matter) has been completely upended. Yes, the pagans have been vanquished, but there’s a new and imminent threat on the horizon in the form of whatever Lovecraftian beastie that Father Blackwood has unleashed as the season draws to a close.
“The beginning of the end” of all things is how Blackwood summed up his conjuring, meaning that when the series returns later this year our characters will be forced to deal with evils that their minds can barely comprehend.
