The new action film Lights Out has stepped into the ring for viewers to enjoy. Frank Grillo stars as a mysterious wanderer who is haunted by a past of seeing his comrades die in combat and now finds himself thrust into the underground world of mixed-martial arts fighting. Mekhi Phifer also stars as Grillo’s only ally with Durmot Mulroney as a crime boss and Scott Adkins making a special appearance as Grillo’s former brother-in-arms.
The movie also stars Jaime King as Ridgeway, who is a police detective who is seemingly pulling all the strings behind it all, but is there more that she’s hiding? King had starred opposite Johnny Depp in Ted Demme’s film Blow, followed by Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor starring opposite Ben Affleck. You may recognize her as Goldie in Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City and the sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

If it’s been a patchy few years for Errol Morris––one solid doc in-between a bad Steve Bannon portrait and iffy look at John le Carré––our interest in his thorough, startling oeuvre remains strong, and it’s naturally a thrill to hear word of two new features. On the documentary front he’s been adapting, for Netflix, Tom O’Neill’s Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties, which quickly engendered great attention for challenging standard Manson Family narratives; and there’s a feature screenplay about Ed Gein, who Morris interviewed in 1975 for a never-completed documentary. If it doesn’t feature that footage and opts for a biopic / procedural path, it would make Morris’ first narrative since 1991’s The Dark Wind. [Screen Daily]

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo was born in Santa Monica, California, and grew up in the Los Angeles area. When he was six years old on August 21st, 1971, a young Trujillo found himself at his grandmother’s house in Hawthorne — just around the corner from a surplus store that was held up by the Manson Family.
In a new interview on The Offspring’s Time to Relax podcast, the bassist recalled the harrowing story of hiding out in his grandma’s shower as 30 police officers engaged in a shootout with four of Charles Manson’s followers.
“I am in Hawthorne, California,” recounted Trujillo [as transcribed by Metal Injection]. “I’m staying at my grandma’s house… The gun shop, the army surplus shop around the corner on Hawthorne Boulevard, was robbed. And basically, the Manson family had this grand scheme. You can check it out on the internet. They were gonna rob the gun store and get their ammo and everything,...

I was set to cover Black Lotus when it was released in the UK a month from now when, to my surprise, a friend announced it was our movie watch for the weekend. It seems it was released over here with pretty much zero publicity, which is never a good sign. But his enthusiasm “It’s got Frank Grillo and a seven-foot Mma fighter!” won me over. And since I was going to be watching it now, I figured I might as well write it up now as well.
Armed men have taken the German National Opera hostage and are demanding a three hundred million ransom. Three hundred million what is never mentioned but be it dollars, euros, or marks, they want three hundred million of them.

We’ve been following the progress of the cult horror film The Resurrection of Charles Manson for a while now, ever since it was first announced under the title Man’s Son. Now the film – which counts Frank Grillo (Boss Level) as a cast member and marks the feature directorial debut of Remy Grillo, who happens to be Frank Grillo’s son – is set to receive a digital release on March 16th, and with that date just a week away a trailer has arrived online. You can watch it in the embed above.
Scripted by Josh Plasse and Brev Moss, The Resurrection of Charles Manson was “inspired by modern occult activity in the California desert”. The story goes like this: A couple goes to the desert for a romantic weekend and shoot an audition for a role in an upcoming film. Their holiday quickly turns deadly as they are the target...

"Believe me... my children are comin'." XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Resurrection of Charles Manson, yet another Charles Manson film to go along with so many others recently. The film stars Frank Grillo as a cult leader, directed by his son Remy Grillo who's making his feature directorial debut. The film follows a young couple hoping to create an audition tape for an up-and-coming Charles Manson film. Particularly in the current #MeToo and #TimesUp climate, the name Roman Polanski sets off alarms. The cultural and legal conversation around the filmmaker and his past sexual assault is ongoing, but the question now becomes: are audiences ready to see the director as a character in a Quentin Tarantino film?
According to Variety’s Justin Kroll, Polanski — as a character — will have a “key role” in Tarantino’s not-actually-a-Charles-Manson-movie project.

Yes, we know — Quentin Tarantino‘s Charles Manson movie, isn’t actually a Charles Manson movie. “It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969,” the director said about his Los Angeles-set movie, which is said to have a vibe somewhere along the same lines as “Pulp Fiction” and “Inglourious Basterds.” Big stars have been said to be under consideration for months, and now the first official name is on board.
