Head's up, Whovians! "Doctor Who" fans have been enjoying an embarrassment of riches lately, including (but not limited to) the casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, the grand return of acclaimed writer/director Russell T. Davies into the "Doctor Who" fold, and even the surprise appearance of beloved franchise actor David Tennant in that 60th anniversary special. But arguably the biggest development was saved for last, when we found out that BBC and Disney would be teaming up to bring the classic series to an even bigger global platform through Disney+ streaming.
Now, in a new announcement, Disney has revealed the official premiere date for the upcoming and widely-anticipated season. Mark your calendars and clear your schedules for Friday, May 10 2024 at 7:00 p.m. Edt. The festivities will actually begin with a re-airing of the Christmas special "The Church on Ruby Road" that originally debuted in December of 2023, followed by two brand-new episodes.

Frank Herbert’s Dune novel has long been considered unadaptable for the big screen because of how extensive its lore is, making it difficult to incorporate and encompass every important detail in the movie.
Dune (1984)
The franchise is indeed one of the biggest and most influential in pop culture, and despite the criticism that David Lynch’s 1984 version endured, it remains top-notch when it comes to authenticity, as compared with Denis Villeneuve’s duology.

1994’s Interview with the Vampire is remembered for kickstarting an alleged rift between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, even though in recent years, it seems the speculated feud no longer exists. But apart from the drama surrounding it, the movie itself was a box-office success, and Rebecca Ferguson developed a crush on Cruise after watching it.
Even though the movie wasn’t her cup of tea, Ferguson, who first joined forces with Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie in Rogue Nation, certainly found Cruise the best part of the horror fantasy.

Austin Butler, rising to fame with his performance as the legendary musician Elvis Presley in the critically acclaimed biopic Elvis, recently joined the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s magnum opus Dune 2, for the first time. While the actor noted having a phenomenal working experience, Butler also opened up about the harsh conditions under which the cast and crew had to work.
Austin Butler in and as Elvis
Revealing two terrifying conditions that he had to endure personally, Austin Butler who plays Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s merciless nephew, the bald villain, Feyd-Rautha, revealed how he pulled off his character. Disclosing the scorching heat and how he had to wear a bald cap on top of that, Butler shared the challenging circumstances. However, he eventually admitted to having a bonding experience on set, despite all odds.

Whether it may be being part of an insane psychologically-charged drama or a packed-to-the-walls action film with none other than Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson can be said to have developed an iron heart and mind to take on challenges that might look crazy to many. But contrary to even she may have believed, watching Austin Butler act may have proven too much even for her.

In a recent interview, the actress was asked about all the on-set details of her upcoming film Dune: Part Two, including what other stars on set were like to witness while shooting for the film. Ferguson was quick to bring Butler into the conversation, claiming that she was downright scared of him when he was in character during the filming process.

There are a multitude of ways to incorporate characters singing on screen in a film. Traditionally, the actors record the tracks separately from their on-set line delivery and lip-sync during the actual filming, as shown with Ryan Gosling and his army of Kens in Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" movie for "I'm Just Ken." But every once in a while, a filmmaker will elect to record the raw, on-set delivery of a vocal performance. Director Tom Hooper took this route with both "Les Miserables" and "Cats," with ... one turning out infinitely better than the other. There are pros and cons to both approaches, but the second option is exponentially riskier. And yet, "Hunger Games" franchise director Francis Lawrence went that route on "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" with star Rachel Zegler's performance as Lucy Gray Baird.
In the book as well as in the movie, Lucy Gray Baird is a performer.

Two Lost Doctor Who Episodes Have Been Found, But Their Guardians Are Too 'Terrified' To Return Them
"Doctor Who" has long been regarded as one of the pillars of science fiction television. Unfortunately, back in the 1960s and 1970s, the BBC regarded previously broadcast "Doctor Who" episodes as junk that was just taking up space, so the episodes were destroyed to make room for new programming. Some lost "Doctor Who" stories have since been recovered from collectors, overseas broadcasters, and -- in the case of two episodes of the serial "The Daleks' Master Plan" -- in the basement of a Mormon church. However, despite decades of searching, 97 episodes remain lost.
That number could be whittled down to 95, according to a new report by The Observer, but there's a problem. Film collector John Franklin, who knows the locations of the two missing episodes, says their guardians are afraid that if they come forward their precious mementos could be confiscated, and that they might even face criminal prosecution. In the 31st century of Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's "Futurama," Christmas has evolved. Instead of fir trees, for instance, people decorate palm trees. Gift exchanges are still common, but families don't merely gather together to enjoy the warmth of the holiday season. They gather together because a rogue robotic Santa Claus, judging the entire world to be "naughty," annually flies around the Earth murdering anyone outdoors with guns and missiles. Families gather out of fear. Robot Santa was initially played by John Goodman, but the role was taken over by John Dimaggio after his first appearance.
Eventually joining Robot Santa in his holiday shenanigans was the Kwanzaa-Bot played by late rapper Coolio, and, with the release of "Bender's Big Score" in 2007, the Chanukah Zombie played by Mark Hamill. The machinations of the film's plot had all of Earth's denizens stranded at the North Pole of Neptune,...

Katy Perry's time doling out advice to hopefuls on American Idol could end very soon.
According to The Daily Mail, the "California Girls" singer is considering her options after the public perception of her changed this season.
While nothing has been confirmed, the report states that Perry is not thrilled about her portrayal this season and feels like producers are to blame.
Allegedly, her breaking point was when the show's live audience booed her.
"Katy feels like [the producers] threw her under the bus," the source dished.
"She feels like her comments could have been removed."
"Katy became aware of the harsh criticism. Getting booed really upset her. She was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home," the source added.
"She went into it thinking she was going to foster young talent. For her good intentions to be misinterpreted it was not what she wanted."

Additionally, a spinoff titled FGirl Island has been ordered for midseason.
Host Nikki Glaser will return for The CW's iteration of the franchise.

Well, this one's a shocker.
Dancing With the Stars is staging a comeback to ABC.
The hit reality series was famously banished to Disney+ with a two-season order in 2022.
Now, the competition for the Mirrorball trophy will continue on ABC.
Vulture first reported the news, but ABC and Disney have yet to comment.
There's a good chance the decision won't be officially announced until the network reveals its fall schedule later this month.
Still, it's quite the turn of events considering the decision was made to shift the show to streaming in what can only be described as a sign of the times.
When Dancing With the Stars left ABC, it was still a strong performer, and the series' return to the network raises many questions about the state of the network's bubble dramas.
ABC picked up 9-1-1 after Fox canceled it this week, so both shows join the previously renewed Abbott Elementary,...

May was off to a good start for American Idol fans, who got to watch their favorite contestants sing for the second night in a row. Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan were once again at their posts offering feedback to the contestants — and this week, they even chose the song each Idol contestant would sing.

American Idol’s April 30 episode saw the reveal of the show’s top 10 contestants, and while some were thrilled with who went through, others were disappointed in the two contestants left behind. Regardless, the judges loved every performance. The singers sang rock and roll hits that fit their voice, with one contestant’s performance even making Luke Bryan cry.

Caroline Manzo is speaking out for the first time about exiting The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip before filming wrapped.
Earlier this year, it was reported that her co-star, Brandi Glanville, had been removed from the series over unwanted kisses.
At the time, it was also revealed that Manzo had departed the series of her own volition following the incident.
"I can't say much, only because it's not good for my headspace, but it took a lot for me to go back [on a Housewives show]," Manzo said on New York Live while promoting her Food, Love, and Chaos cooking show, according to People.
The former Real Housewives of New Jersey star said she was "going back with the best of intentions, with the highest of hopes, to do something fun."
"I came home early. And at this point, I just truly don't have the space in my head to talk about it," the star said.

2018’s sleeper hit, Searching, showed you could create an effective edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller told exclusively through the use of the screens that dominate our daily lives in this century. It starred John Cho as a father whose 16-year-old daughter disappears, leading him to use all the tools of the internet to try and trace her steps in order to find her. Its follow-up, Missing, actually improves on that idea with a different story and set of characters, taking it several leaps further in creating a corker of a suspense picture that looks like what a filmmaking master such as Hitchcock might have made had he been an It genius too.
Watching Searching, which was directed and cowritten (with Sev Ohanian) by Aneesh Chaganty, I kept thinking how the real stars of the piece were the film editors who had to put together a puzzle of images in order to create a coherent story.

Conceived during the pandemic, the latest from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead is a transcendent head-scratcher about two slackers’ search for hidden meanings and paranormal signs
Between the likes of Host, Bo Burnham’s Inside and Jacob Estes’s He’s Watching, there’s a respectable pandemic oeuvre emerging – and Something in the Dirt is one of the best yet. This sci-fi-dusted paean to Los Angeles slackerdom is fairly typical for the lockdown genre: a torrent of self-involved invention about not much more than the process of its own creation. But director-stars Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead approach their two-hander with a sly humour and wonderment that prevents it from disappearing up its own fundament.
The film could also be plausibly filed in the LA esoterica category, alongside Mulholland Drive and Under the Silver Lake. Drifter John (Moorhead) moves into the same apartment complex as long-time denizen Levi (Benson), where they witness a strange,...

We're nearing the end, Mole fans! The players can see the finish line in their sights, but there are still a few more missions left for the chance to win money.
But if The Mole Season 6 Episode 9 was any example, players will have to keep their eyes on each other at all costs.
Between sabotaging from The Mole and the players sabotaging themselves, a complex web of lies was weaved. Everyone is trying to make themselves look suspicious; some are more blatant than others.
"Cold Hard Cash" was a tension-filled round that ramped up the drama and suspicions for all players.
Splitting up the players during a mission gives them all, especially The Mole, more opportunities to sabotage without the others watching. Sometimes it's blatant like Kesi losing the ice blocks, or it's subtle like Will delaying time. It's the small pieces that add up.

Today's exclusive debut, an alternate poster by artist Valentina Fariell for Jacob Aaron Estes' He's Watching, puts the emphasis on the red stuff. What does that have to do with two young people left alone by their parents? The official synopsis provides a clue: "When happy-go-lucky siblings Iris and Lucas are left alone while their parents recover from an illness, a series of playful pranks they play on each other escalate when they start receiving unsettling images and videos on their phones. With the incoming messages becoming increasingly nightmarish, Iris and Lucas realize something sinister has taken root in their home." Estes directed from his own original screenplay. Check out the trailer below, as well as an official,...

Watching Written on the Wind was my first introduction to the famous auteur of the melodramatic, Douglas Sirk. The 2K Blu-ray restoration is out now via the Criterion Collection. Sirk was a German filmmaker who fled the country when he was approached by the notorious Joseph Goebbels (Nazi war criminal and the German Minister of Propaganda) to make the films that Leni Riefenstahl ended up working on. There’s more to that story that’s both sad and tawdry; check it out if you have interest in this strange intersection with world history and cinema. Sirk became known for exploring the kind of daily ugly realities that bubbled beneath a bright, polished veneer, a gauntlet later picked up by fellow...

Welcome back, dear readers, for the next installment of Daily Dead’s 2021 Holiday Gift Guide! Today, we’re turning our attention toward all the amazingly brilliant indie artists and creators who celebrate horror and sci-fi with the work they do. For today’s gift guide, we’ve organized everything into specialized sections, including artwork, apparel and accessories, jewelry and enamel pins, and a miscellaneous category where you’ll find a fun assortment of items and gift ideas for this holiday season.
A quick note: I think most of us are aware that mail and shipping has been slow as molasses this year, so I encourage you to do your shopping early on, as some of these sites have a cut-off date coming up in the next week, and you wouldn’t want your gifts to arrive after the holidays. So, if you’re looking to do some shopping and support...

Lines have been crossed in a big way and saying who did what first isn’t really important since the crucial thing to think about is that Sam and Bucky were actually trying to talk to Karli Morgenthau while John Walker was stepping in and forcefully attempting to step on toes to do what he felt was right. His buddy, Hoskins, tried his best to tell him that he was indeed the guy, the one holding the shield, but he was also telling him that backing off might be a good idea. Unfortunately backing off isn’t what Walker does, and it’s

It’s protesters versus the police in the trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The Netflix film’s all-star cast — including Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sacha Baron Cohen, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, Alex Sharp, Jeremy Strong and John Carroll Lynch — are all featured in the nearly three-minute trailer teasing the case against the group of anti-Vietnam War protesters who were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot around the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago.

Many TV shows do not stand the test of time when they hit the air.
They lose viewers leading to them being cut short, but America's Got Talent has proven to be the most resilient show around.
It's been on the air for 15 seasons, spawned spinoffs, and continues to make stars out of the people who show off their talent on TV screens.
As the series celebrates 15 years, NBC is airing a retrospective special tonight.
The special episode will feature some of the most viral acts over the years, including winners Kodi Lee, Shin Lim, and Grace Vanderwaal, as well as “Agt: The Champions” winners V. Unbeatable, and Season 13 performance troupe Zurcaroh.
Terry Crews hosts the celebratory episode along with Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and the show’s newest judge, Sofia Vergara.

90 Day Fiance: Paul Staehle Threatens to Seek Full Custody After Explosive Fight With Karine Martins
Paul Staehle and Karine Martins may be in a good place on 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After Season 5, but it looks like their relationship is imploding off-screen.
Paul went on Instagram Live Thursday to give fans a look into the aftermath of a nasty fight between the pair.
“Karine and her lawyer did call the cops. I’m not making this stuff up,” he says in the since-deleted video.
The police are present at the scene, prompting Paul to say the following:
"I have no idea why you guys were called. I don’t know what I’ve done.”
He added, “I’m pro-police I have nothing against you guys. I just want to know what’s going on.”
The police wondered what had transpired before they arrived.
“We were doing a call, I look over, I see her talking to a Brazilian lawyer about child support and divorce. I...

No offense to Kevin Smith, since the guy is awesome and everything, but the fact that he sheds a tear over movies he thinks are great still isn’t enough to win a lot of people over since as the writers at MovieWeb state, it’s only building up more hype for the rest of us. Bill & Ted Face the Music is supposed to be coming out later this summer unless things change, but the famed director had the chance to review the movie and he couldn’t help but think that it was one of the best things that he’s ever

Update: HBO Max has reintroduced Gone With the Wind, this time with a new introduction and panel discussion aimed to address the film's complicated legacy. "Watching Gone With the Wind can be uncomfortable, even painful," film scholar Jacqueline Stewart says in a video that precedes the movie. "Still it's important that classic Hollywood films are available to us in their original form for viewing and discussion." She adds, "The film presents the Antebellum South as a world of grace and beauty, without acknowledging the brutalities of the system of chattel slavery, upon which this world is based." _____ HBO Max has made a major change to library....

The Witcher has officially landed on Netflix and the first episode is enough to make anyone think that this first season is going to be interesting. Cintra has fallen, Geralt is on the way to meet his destiny, and it’s kind of obvious that he doesn’t blend all that well when it comes to integrating with society, as a Witcher is seen as someone that’s less than accepted by anyone, save those that have some need of his services. Between a wizard that wants him to kill someone and the target in question Geralt doesn’t have an easy decision to

Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” debuted on Netflix on Thanksgiving Eve 2019, and #FilmTwitter was immediately in agreement: The movie was clearly designed to be seen at home (except it should really be seen on the big screen), the digital de-aging effects look much better on TV (except that now they’re more jarring) and it’s absolutely Ok to pause the film and watch it in chapters (except that you are spitting on the filmmakers by doing so).
No one’s having this conversation about, say, how or whether to watch “Avengers Endgame” on Disney+, because of course Scorsese produced “The Irishman” with Netflix’s backing, and certainly kept in mind that an overwhelming majority of viewers would indeed be watching the film on their home theaters.
The “How to Watch ‘The Irishman'” debate is just the latest incarnation of an ongoing rhubarb among moviegoers. No doubt film nerds...

On Monday, entertainer Bill Cosby will walk into a Norristown, Pennsylvania, courtroom to face trial for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple employee Andrea Constand in January 2004.
Whether he walks out a convicted man or an exonerated one is uncertain, experts say. It’s also an open question whether he can resume his career, as he’s publicly said he’d like to do after the trial.
On the trial’s first day, actress Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played his daughter Rudy on The Cosby Show, and Johnny Taylor, president of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, will be there to support him,...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is your favorite murder mystery show?
Erik Adams (@ErikMAdams), A.V. Club
It has to be “Twin Peaks,” right? I’m one of those annoying people who insists the show is so much more than “Who killed Laura Palmer?”, but that is our entry point to David Lynch and Mark Frost’s weird little world, and the question that briefly made “Twin Peaks” a pop-culture phenomenon. And the chapters of the series that deal with finding Laura’s murderer are some of the most compelling, from the dream-sequence enhanced “Zen, Or The Skill To Catch A Killer” or the eventual solution to the mystery, a...

At Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud theatre, playwright David Seidler has much more room to explore the story's historical background than the cinema version allowed
Watching David Seidler's play induces a strong sense of deja vu. That's not simply because it was the source of a hugely successful, Oscar-winning film. It is also because Seidler's perfectly enjoyable play taps into our recollections of other, more resonant works.
Until I saw it on stage, I had not realised how much Seidler's piece owed to Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III. In both we see an embattled royal subjected to all kinds of curative humiliations by a rogue outsider: in Bennett's play it was a bluff Lincolnshire parson whereas in Seidler's it is a tough Aussie speech specialist in the shape of Lionel Logue. I was also reminded of Tom Murphy's outstanding 1983 play, The Gigli Concert, in which a charlatan...
