I love this show. I've seen it many times. Maybe just because of Tim Curry's voice. He is really very good. Cute story with a happy reunion at the end. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely gorgeous

What a gorgeous short film! Abel's Island is just perfection in every way possible, and quite underrated I think. The visuals are simple yet very colourful and effective, and Arthur Custer's music is beautiful. The story is wonderful, and I was amazed at how much tenderness and warmth was put into such a short film, and the dialogue is thoughtful. The emotional impact is also there, you feel immensely for Abel, and I admit I cried with tears of happiness at the ending. The characters especially Abel are tremendously engaging, and the voice acting is spot on. Abel is different to anything else Tim Curry has done, he is very understated and gentle here, and I loved that side to him, really I did. Heidi Stallings and Lionel Jeffries are also impressive. Overall, gorgeous, with plenty of emotional impact and a memorable story and characters. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Absolutely charming

What a delight! The story is a warmhearted, gently inspiring tale of an upper-crust mouse who discovers his own previously unsuspected wellsprings of strength and resourcefulness when he is swept away to a deserted island during a sudden storm. The viewer can't help but root for Abel as he struggles to survive in this harsh new environment, and find a way back to his previous cushy existence...and to his beloved wife, Amanda, who is ever in his thoughts. With this performance, Tim Curry proves why he has become such a sought-after voice-over artist; his beautiful voice and sensitive delivery of Abel's dialog suit the character to perfection.

A quiet but engrossing film-Another William Steig masterpiece

I looked up "CDB!"("See the Bee"), a book I remember from my elementary school gifted class, and I found out the author was William Steig. You can Imagine my surprise when I found he also wrote and illustrated Abel's Island, I also remembered from my childhood, as well as the children's book "Shrek"!? which the recently released film is based on. Anyway, I recommend this film (which I saw on PBS's Long ago and Far Away years ago-this is totally nostalgic for me) It is a quiet but interesting film exploring a sort of bitter sweet Robinson Coruso-like fantasy. Good for adults and children as are all of Steig's works. Also check out the books "CDB"- a book of word puzzles using single letters and numbers, and also the book and movie "Shrek". This guy's a super writer.
