Screen Gems is angling to reboot '80s classic Look Who’s Talking for modern audiences.
Look Who's Talking is in line for the reboot treatment at Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems. Via Deadline, Jeremy Garelick (The Wedding Ringer) is attached to write and direct the project.
Amy Heckerling's original 1989 TriStar rom-com starred Kirstie Alley and John Travolta as mismatched pair Mollie and James, who fall in love after meeting accidentally when heavily pregnant Mollie catches a ride in James' cab to the hospital to give birth. Mollie has been having an affair with married exec and total garbage man Albert (George Segal), who doesn't want much to do with her or their baby. In the film, Bruce Willis voiced the internal monologue of their sprog, Mikey, to give the audience a perspective on how life and love looks to a fresh member of the human race.

We're suckers for a little nostalgia, so when we came across this circa 1990 ABC promo spot -- featuring stars of ABC's past including Neil Patrick Harris ("Doogie Howser"), Richard Dean Anderston ("MacGyver"), Kyle MacLachlan ("Twin Peaks"), Alyssa Milano ("Who's the Boss"), Fred Savage ("The Wonder Years"), the entire "Full House" crew (including at least one teensy Olsen twin), Roseanne (who is surrounded by a bevy of mini-clones), the animated "Beetlejuice" and those lovable cut-ups from "Perfect Strangers" -- well, we knew we were going to watch it at least once.
After repeated viewings, we don't hesitate one bit in encouraging you to do the same.
Also be on the look-out for clips short-lived sitcoms "Baby Talk" (starring George Clooney!), "Cop Rock" (ahead of its time) and "Going Places" (it went nowhere).

Things are very different from the days when Look Who’s Talking was an awesomely offbeat Amy Heckerling movie that was — and remains — super-duper weirdsies, but very, very entertaining. What a strange concept: an entire movie about talking babies! The franchise spurred no less than three sequels, and there was even a sitcom called Baby Talk that last two seasons and featured the voice of Tony Danza. The voice of Tony Danza, meaningwe never got to see him tap dance! ): ): ): The original Look Who’s Talking movies, however, feature Kirstie Alley and John Travolta in the lead roles as two boisterous New Yorkers whose stars cross and they fall in love and raise baby geniuses together. Both actors have seen their careers struggle since then, although Travolta found a resurgence in Pulp Fiction and Kirstie Alley in screaming about how fat she is before Dancing With The Stars...

Just in case you were about to forget, there was a sitcom from 1991-1992 in which Tony Danza did the voice of a baby. Amid the backdrop of the Look Who’s Talking craze in the early 90′s (Craze? Uh huh, craze.), ABC put Baby Talk on real television that was capable of beaming into your living room. Also, Scott Baio was in it. Everything still checks out and makes sense in regards to the show’s opening sequence. So, yeah, those kids in the beginning part are old enough to actually talk themselves. And they probably sound nothing like Tony Danza. But, let’s not worry about that right now. Let’s just remember that this was a thing and it happened.

Oscar winners George Clooney and Mel Gibson (in 'Baby Talk' and 'Complete Savages') ... 'Friends' star Matthew Perry (in 'Home Free') .... 'Chuck' leading man Zachary Levi (in 'Less Than Perfect') ... they were all adult members of ABC's "Tgif" lineup of Friday night family sitcoms.
But what we remember most from those Friday nights in front of the tube? The younger cast members -- Urkel, the Tanner kiddies, the Mowry twins. They kept us tuning in season after season (the block ran on ABC from 1988-2000 and 2003-2005), and what has inspired this look at where the real stars, the Tgif kids, are now ...

One 1980s classic is toddling its way to Nickelodeon.
"Look Who's Talking" will be making its Nick at Nite premiere at 8 p.m. Et June 13. Starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, the 1989 comedy will join the likes of movies such as "Uncle Buck," "Drumline" and more.
Alley portrays single New York accountant Mollie, who is faced with a dilemma when she becomes pregnant and her married boyfriend (George Segal) shows no intention of leaving his wife. The idea of being a single parent is scary enough, but once the baby comes, she resolves herself to find him a father. As cab driver and part-time pilot James, Travolta plays her babysitter, whom Mollie can't see as a strong paternal figure, but infant Mikey (voice of Bruce Willis) adores him.
Also starring Olympia Dukakis and Abe Vigoda, the movie was written and directed by Amy Heckerling, the maker of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Clueless.
