We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Star Claire Danes is opening up about her relationship with Billy Crudup, who famously left his six-months-pregnant girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker for her in 2003.
On his SiriusXM show Monday, Howard Stern asked Danes about the public backlash against her romance with her Stage Beauty costar, who had been with Parker for eight years.
"That was a scary thing. It was really hard," the Homeland star told Stern of the publicly scrutiny.

More than a decade ago, Billy Crudup left his seven-month pregnant girlfriend Mary Louise Parker, to date his Stage Beauty co-star Claire Danes. The romance made headlines (to say the least) but no one was more overwhelmed by the media's coverage than the Homeland actress herself. "That was a scary thing…That was really hard," she explained during an SiriusXM interview with Howard Stern when asked how she handled the criticism from the public over the 2003 revelation. "But it's okay, I went through it." She continued, "I was just in love with him and needed to explore that and I was 24…I didn't quite know what those consequences would...

Claire Danes is coming clean! The "Homeland" star opened up about her infamous relationship with "Almost Famous" star, Billy Crudup, while chatting with Howard Stern on Monday. While Danes made a ton of headlines after Billy left left his then-pregnant partner, Mary Louise Parker, for her ... she doesn't exactly sound like she regrets it. "That was a scary thing," the actress said about their controversial relationship. "That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that." It was in 2003 the actor called it quits with the "Weeds" star to date Danes -- Billy and Mary had been together for 8 years prior and Parker was seven months pregnant with their first child. "I was just in love with him," Danes revealed. "And needed to explore that and I was 24... I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be." The former flames first met on the set of their film,...

For the concerns in some quarters that Birdman might be too cerebral or idiosyncratic for Oscar, I offer thisfoolproof rebuttal: It's about the theater!
Oscar has a long history of mad love for theater movies from early musicals which were often about vaudeville through biopics about theater giants and on to today's more playful genre hybrids. Even when the Academy doesn't fully commit to its latest greasepaint and footlights suitor, it will often give him a quick kiss in the form of a nomination or three. Some examples: To Be Or Not To Be (1942 & 1983), Being Julia (2004), Mrs Henderson Presents (2005), The Producers (1967), 42nd Street (1934), and The Bandwagon (1953). While it's true there are exceptions that they completely ignore (Stage Beauty, Waiting for Guffman, Opening Night) it's a subject matter that appeals to showbiz people and showbiz people like congratulating their own.
Oscar's 10 Favorite Theater Movies
Why didn't you include Cabaret, Black Swan or Chicago in this list?...

We’ve had Young Sherlock Holmes and now we’re going to have an Old Sherlock, when Ian McKellen portrays a 93-year old version of the great detective in A Slight Trick of the Mind.
Many people have played Arthur Conan Doyle’s timeless British detective over the years, and now we can add Sir Ian McKellen—best known for playing Magneto in the X-Men films and Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies—to that extensive list. McKellen will be reteaming with director Bill Condon for A Slight Trick of the Mind. The last time the 74 year old actor worked with Condon was in Gods and Monsters (1998) where he won critical acclaim playing ailing Frankenstein director James Whale.
The film will be based on author Mitch Cullin's 2006 novel of the same name, which takes place in the sleuth’s final years. The script for A...

Is everyone ready for another version of Sherlock Holmes? In addition to the Robert Downey Jr films we have BBC’s wonderful Sherlock series and the surprisingly not awful Elementary on CBS. What more can they do? Oh, make him an old man I guess. Alright.
Bill Condon is set to direct A Slight Trick of The Mind based on the novel by Mitch Cullin. This will be a Sherlock Holmes film which features the long retired detective in the futuristic year of 1947. The press release has this to say:
In 1947, Sherlock Holmes, long retired, lives in a sleepy Sussex village with his housekeeper and her amateur-sleuthing son. But far from living out a peaceful retirement, he is haunted by an unsolved case from fifty years ago. He remembers only fragments: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

Ian McKellen and Bill Condon will reunite for A Slight Trick of the Mind, a stand-alone, solo Sherlock Holmes mystery. The premise is that Holmes is an old, musty, retired detective haunted by a case from his youth. With his memory waning -- and no Dr. Watson to assist -- Sherlock must solve his greatest mystery! It's based on a novel by Mitch Cullin. Condon will direct, but the script duties are in the hands of Jeffrey Hatcher (Stage Beauty, Casanova), according to The Hollywood Reporter. McKellen and Condon previously teamed for 1998's Gods and Monsters, in which McKellen played the great (retired) director James Whale. British stage, film and television actor Richard Griffiths died yesterday due to complications in the aftermath of heart surgery at Coventry hospital. He was 65 years old. Though best remembered for his performance as Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter flicks, Griffiths was a well-respected name on the British stage, having won a number of awards ( Tony. Laurence Olivier, and Drama Desk awards.) for playing a free-spirited gay teacher -- who likes his male teenage students a tad too much -- in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys. (Pictured above: Griffiths in the film version of The History Boys, co-starring Dominic Cooper.) Griffiths was also a well-regarded movie actor -- though not as a result of his work on the Harry Potter movies. His prestige lay on his work on low-budget, independently made British efforts such as Nicholas Hytner's outstanding film adapation of The History Boys (released in 2006) and...

Last week on Red Carpet Convos, Joanna and I were trying on gowns; I borrowed Penelope's (don't judge) and she wore Evan Rachel's. This week Kurt and I gawk at the Golden Globes but alas, there's no word on which of these dresses Joanna would wear.

New York Daily News reports that 43-year-old Crudup and 25-year-old Grace Gummer -- daughter of Streep and Dan Gummer -- were "physically open about their relationship" while at the after-party for "The Rampart" at the Mondrian Soho Hotel Tuesday night. Lest we need further proof, the report describes Crudup as introducing Gummer around and the couple doing couple-y things like "holding hands and rubbing each other's backs."
The pair performed together last spring in the Broadway revival of Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia", where Gummer, unsurprisingly, played Crudup's love interest. Crudup has a six year-old child with Parker; the couple notoriously split in 2007, shortly before Crudup dating his "Stage Beauty" co-star, Claire Danes.

Why is Roland Emmerich, purveyor of disaster-movie schlock, wading into the debate over the authorship of Shakespeare's plays?
Roland Emmerich knows there's a subtext to the compliment when people tell him they like his new film, Anonymous. "Were my other movies so bad?" asks the Stuttgart-born director in his clipped Teutonic accent. But it's not so much that those other movies were bad – it's that they bore almost no resemblance to reality. In the last 15 years Emmerich has presided over an alien invasion (Independence Day), the trashing of New York (Godzilla) and the end of the world not once but twice (The Day After Tomorrow and 2012). So it comes as quite a surprise that his latest project, though just as rich in CGI, is quite an intelligent, if somewhat broad historical drama that portrays William Shakespeare as a drunk and posits the Earl of Oxford as the true genius of English literature.

Mostly written off as a lesser version of Shakespeare in Love, Richard Eyre’s Stage Beauty, based on Jeffrey Hatcher‘s play (he also wrote the screenplay), is a singular criticism on celebrity and the lengths performers go to inhabit their roles that stands out in its own right. It’s also a somewhat bold examination of sexuality and what it means to be sexual, whether it be homo or hetero.
Billy Crudup stars as Ned Kynaston, a marquee performer on the 17th century London stage. Kynaston’s fame comes from his portrayal of women characters, most of them tragic Shakespearean beauties. His current star turn is as Desdemona in Shakespeare’s Othello. His femininity is admired by all, especially Maria (Claire Danes), Kynaston’s dresser. In fact, Maria admires Kynaston’s performance so much that she stars as Desdemona herself, in secret, on the stage of an underground theater essentially mimicking Kynaston’s mannerisms.

Made-for-tv movies often get a bad rap. They're sometimes looked at as being saccharine stories of people overcoming adversity, focusing on individuals who bravely overcome diseases, disabilities, or gut-wrenching issues. But every now and then, especially in the hands of HBO, a telepic comes along that is just as good as--if not better than--feature films shown in cinemas, projects that change your perception of the world around you, make you question some hard truths, and make you a better person just by dint of watching them. One such project is HBO's superlative and imaginative film, Temple Grandin, which airs this Saturday night on the pay cabler. Focusing on the courageous spirit and inquisitive mind of inventor, author, advocate, and teacher Temple Grandin, the film unfolds in a nonlinear fashion to reconstruct the struggles of autistic Grandin from her childhood as a mute four-year-old girl to her emergence as a brilliant scientific mind,...

If you can think of one thing that Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup and Greg Kinnear have in common-- and I'm having trouble thinking of much-- it's that they're all actors who don't really show where you expect them. No one would watch Crudup in something like Stage Beauty and assumed he'd wind up as the giant blue Dr. Manhattan, or assume that Arkin's first Oscar after a 40-odd year career would be as a drug-huffing grandpa. They keep you on your toes, and I like that. So what will happen when all three share the screen in the indie production The Convincer? Something wild and maybe great, I'm guessing. Variety writes that the three have signed on to the film directed by Jill Sprecher from a script she co-wrote with Karen Sprecher, about an insurance salesman's scheme to steal a rare violin. Producers Christine Walker and Elizabeth Redleaf were behind...

New releases Me and Orson Welles, The Descent: Part 2 and The Box fail to offer much opposition as Paranormal Activity leapfrogs into top spot in its second week
For distributors with a new release this weekend, the only solace to be grasped at was that their movie hadn't done as badly as someone else's. As executives gathered at the annual British independent film awards in London on Sunday night, the talk was of how all the new films targeting adult audiences had flopped – the only differences were the degrees of failure.
Flop #1
Bottom of the pile of wide releases was Me and Orson Welles, which failed to crack a £1,000 screen average on 187 prints. Comparisons with Zac Efron's recent hits 17 Again (£2.56m debut) and High School Musical 3 (£8.41m including previews) are hardly fair, but his latest film's £166,000 opening confirms widely held suspicions that his many young fans wouldn't show...

Q: So Gregory Michael, who plays gay on Dante’s Cove, is now playing Calvin’s love interest on Greek. So what gives? Gay guy or just a really cool straight one? – Jason, Milwaukee, Wi
A: A really cool straight one.
“I didn't have any reservations about it being gay or what kind of character it was,” Gregory tells AfterElton.com. “Just, ‘It's another role – are you ready to do it?’ You look at everything. I just got back from the holidays [when I did it]. Did I eat too much? Am I going to look good? You look at those things, not, ‘Oh, I'm doing another gay role.’”
Gregory Michael
Interestingly, Gregory didn’t even consider the aspect of doing two prominent gay roles until his manager said to him, "You know you're doing another gay role.

Vanity Fair briefly killed my enthusiasm for the "Hollywood project" when they nixed the traditional cover for 2009. But time heals most wounds and I have reanimated the project's corpse. 2004's cover had 13 already peaking actresses on it. How'd they follow it in 2005? With another batch of goddesses, 60% of whom had already graced their "Hollywood" cover. In the case of the C/Kates, it was now thrice. Was Vanity Fair running out of ideas? Given the idiosyncratic pool the covers regularly pulled from you'd think there were only 40 actresses in Hollywood... but then, it's probably all in who you know who represents you when it comes to face time here. It's definitely not only about the fame. Actor Billy Crudup has allegedly begged Mary-Louise Parker to let him visit their 11-month-old son, because he wants his child to see his dying father Thomas. Parker is still furious Crudup left her when she was seven months pregnant, to date his Stage Beauty co-star Claire Danes, but she's reportedly considering accompanying Crudup on a trip to South America so their child William can visit his sick grandfather, website NYDailyNews.Com reports. An insider explains, "Mary-Louise refuses to let Billy take him out of state for fear that Billy will take Claire. She doesn't want Claire to see William, ever. But she offered to take the baby down herself because she feels for Billy and she wants his father to see his grandson." Parker's representative adds, "Mary-Louise Parker and Billy Crudup are working hard together on all matters for the sake of the baby."...

Actor Billy Crudup admits his real-life romance with Stage Beauty co-star Claire Danes was initially "painful", because they were both in Long term relationships. Crudup, 36, and 25-year-old Danes were settled in seven-year relationships - with actress Mary-Louise Parker and Australian rocker Ben Lee respectively - when shooting started, but an intense chemistry between the pair was soon sparked. And after working on the movie in London, both left their partners and set up home together in New York. Crudup says, "It was the last thing that I expected to happen. It took us completely by surprise and its been a difficult and painful process." Mary-Louise gave birth to their first child in January this year and named him William, after his father.

Hollywood actor Billy Crudup is keen to remain an enigma off screen - and has little interest in becoming a target for journalists. The Stage Beauty star, 36, believes the best actors are those who manage to keep their private lives out of the media glare - because it makes their screen performance more credible. Crudup says, "I want everything I'm in to be wildly successful, but I don't think that means I want everybody to know anything about me. The entire Hollywood publicity machine was built on 'whatever it takes to get our people out there' but, for me, I've had incredible opportunities to be able to play the roles I want to play, and make a living, so why do I need to pursue that? I'm not sure what it serves. I mean, what do you know about Robert DeNiro? The best actors are the actors we don't know anything about. If people know lots about me, then it becomes difficult for me to do my job of telling people I am someone else."...

Claire Danes has signed with ICM for representation. The move comes at a busy time as Danes is prepping for the release of two films: Richard Eyre's Stage Beauty, opposite Billy Crudup, and Anand Tucker's Shopgirl, opposite Steve Martin and based on a novel and screenplay from Martin about a department store salesgirl. Beauty will be released Oct. 8 by Lions Gate Films, while the Hyde Park Entertainment-produced Shopgirl is due to be rolled out next year via Buena Vista Pictures. Danes, previously repped by UTA, most recently starred opposite Nick Stahl and Arnold Schwarzenegger in T3: Rise of the Machines. She continues to be repped by manager Michael Aglion and attorney Cliff Gilbert-Lurie.

NEW YORK -- This year's Tribeca Film Festival will close with Lions Gate Films' upcoming period piece Stage Beauty -- starring Billy Crudup, Claire Danes and Rupert Everett -- to be screened May 8 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. The screening will mark a world premiere for Beauty, directed by Richard Eyre and based on a real-life actor in 1660s London who made a successful career portraying female characters but whose livelihood was threatened when men were banned from playing women onstage. The move to bring Beauty to the Tribeca fest marks a homecoming of sorts for the film: Tribeca fest founders Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro are the film's producers, along with Hardy Justice. Jeffrey Hatcher penned the screenplay, based on his own stage play, and Eyre, Michael Kuhn, James Stern, Rachel Cohen and Amir Malin executive produced Beauty. The cast also features Ben Chaplin, Tom Wilkinson, Richard Griffiths and Zoe Tapper. Beauty was originally on the Artisan Entertainment slate before the company's takeover by Lions Gate. The film is slated to hit theaters in October. This year's Tribeca Film Festival will run May 1-9 in various locations throughout Lower Manhattan.
