From the Mouths of Babes
Hitchcoc21 April 2015
There is an interminable rain at the 4077th and everyone is feeling claustrophobic. When mail call comes, there is a package for Hawkeye. It is from a fourth grade teacher in his home town. She has asked the kids to writer to the crew, either a doctor or a nurse. Hawkeye, instead of answering them all himself, gives a few to each of his friends. The episode then is formed from their responses to the kids. Some are silly; some are charming. One really gets to Hawkeye, however, as it is from a kid who blames all doctors for patching up his brother and sending him back to the front where he was killed. The letters are all touching in their own way. Potter tries to set the camp record for the most consecutive free throws. It's a nice study of how these people met each day head on.

A moving episode

Warning: Spoilers
A moving episode where the main cast provide responses to letters from school children in Hawkeye's hometown. Margaret's heartfelt response to one letter (about friendships) should have earned Loretta Swit an Emmy for sure. Charles is especially touched by a New England leaf. One Trivia comment for this episode was that letters weren't distributed to the "minor" characters such as Nurse Kellye, Igor and Rizzo, but perhaps that's for another episode. Same comment could be applied to the episode "The Party" (season 7, ep 25) where BJ's stateside reunion of relatives excluded the minor characters I guess.
