Klinger in Danger/Money to Burn
Hitchcoc15 April 2015
This episode focuses on two things. When Klinger tries to help a young Korean woman who is trying to prostitute herself, there is a misunderstanding and he is seen as taking advantage of her. The mother chases him with a broom and then with a pitchfork, even though he is innocent. The larger plot involves the death of a soldier who has a money belt with over 8000 dollars in it. He has a baby face but is a known loan shark and black marketeer. Hawkeye promised him when he was brought in that he would make sure the money got to his family. He writes a nondescript double talking letter to them. Returning to the young woman Klinger tried to help. They have lost a father and a brother to the war and have been bombed out several times. They don't have money to move to Poussan, a safe harbor for them.

Here the main plot intersects with the subplot, with a happy ending when ill gotten gains are distributed to support a Korean family set up a new life. I like the Hawkeye/BJ/Potter/Winchester quartet, although I understand not all do.

Warning: Spoilers
A young wounded soldier pleads with Hawkeye to send his money home to his family if he doesn't make it. He doesn't make it and Hawkeye and BJ are shocked his " buddies " at not upset . Eddie the soldier who died has a bad reputation that doesn't fit with his innocent look and way of acting. Klinger informs Hawkeye and BJ the money in question is thousands of dollars and none of it is army scrip .

Meanwhile Klinger protects a young woman when she tries prostitution . He protects her like a daughter or little sister or niece. She and her mother do the camps laundry . The mother resents all American soldiers after losing her son and husband. She's out for blood! Potter initially understands but wants to help Klinger. He brings Margaret along Klinger says he's only trying to help the girl and she backs him up telling Potter what she was trying to do . Potter says she shouldn't do that . She needs money so they. Can get to Pusan . Margaret was ready to believe the worst of Klinger!

Hawkeye reads a letter to Father Mulcahy to send to Eddie's parents skirting around his activities. They send the money back telling Hawkeye he's kind to try and spare them but his buddies returning home already told them what he was up to it's not the Eddie they knew and don't feel right taking it . There must be people he can help there with it .Potter and Margaret give a portion on it to the mother and daughter and send them on their way. The mother and Klinger part on good terms in a sweet and funny way.

End of the episode they decide to give the rest of the money to several worthy causes so as Hawkeye said whether he knows it or not Eddie did good.
