Hotel Magnum

Warning: Spoilers
Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa was the real-life hotel where The Hotel Dick was filmed, and in fact most of the episode is set at the "Hawaiian Gardens Hotel". No doubt the real-life guests would have been thrilled seeing Tom Selleck and John Hillerman filming there for sure.

One of the freaky scenes was at the end when a very rotund guy bellyflops in the hotel pool.

I think in some ways season six of Magnum, P. I. represents the mid-life crisis or mature side of the series, and in a way the cross-over with Murder, She Wrote (!) pretty much reaffirms the mid-life crisis for sure.

Anyway, the hotel manager Clyde gets his comeuppance at the end when it's revealed he was one of the heist crooks.

"Maybe it's time to get a real job"

This is one of my favorite magnum episodes. Tom is trying to grow up and has taken a job at a resort to help catch a jewel thief. Of course trouble ensues right away with magnum style in a hotel. Usual antics ensue. It's a fun and funny episode.

WTF Was That?

I have no idea why the writers thought it was a good idea to have Magnum work as a temporary Hotel Detective just to pay off a couple debts to Rick and TC. Add the irritating character played by Candy Clark and the Higgins clone played by Granville Van Dusen and you have one of the worst episodes of the series. I still have a slight case of PTSD after watching it. It almost seems like Candy Clark's role was written for either Vicki Lawrence or Carol Burnett. Maybe they turned it down after reading the goofy script. It would've made more sense if Magnum's PI buddy Luther was hired as the Hotel Detective and Magnum was somehow conned into helping him.
