Mike takes the fall
kfo949415 March 2015
From the previous episode we learned that the Mayor's office has been connected to a mobster and has even received a city contract and now the press is on the administration. In this episode Mike knows what he must do and that is to get the Mayor to fire him thus making Mike the 'fall guy' for the scandal. With no other way out of the situation, the Mayor fulfills Mike wishes and fires him with the hopes the scandal ends.

With Michael J Fox so beloved by fans of the series, this is a way of giving the fans closure on the show. At the time of filming the cast did not know that the show would continue so they, along with the audience, thought this would be the closure of the series. And the way the episode was written it has all the things needed when a show is reaching the end.

The writers gave us much more than just an ending but also gave us connections with each character. Instead of a cast member just walking off the stage, they let Mike talk with each character and bring a closure to friendship. And unlike most series that would just leave the fans in tears, here they gave the fans relief when Mike's life will continue with a new adventure.

A large number of fans may feel like the show actually ended with this episode as Michael J Fox departed the series. But just like Mike Flaherty said at the end of the episode, 'It opens up new opportunities'. As we know the show continued - but for some it never felt the same.

Not gonna lie... I cried like a baby

I know I'm watching this in 2020 but that didn't make a final farewell to Michael J Fox's character in this episode any less poignant.

Now I am not a crier. Seriously I have difficulty crying which is why I see a therapist. But watching each character say goodbye (especially the Mayor) had me wiping away tears.

This episode is overwhelming emotional and a fitting goodbye. It's just a reminder of the beautiful talent and spirit of such a great actor like MJF.

Unforgettable

Warning: Spoilers
I'll never forget this episode of Spin City, where Michael J Fox leaves (although he makes guest appearances in season 6). It was very moving, and it's encouraging that Michael J Fox is going strong over 20 years on thankfully. In this episode Michael Flaherty takes the fall for the Mayor to save his administration.

And this goodbye was Heartbreaking... During the scene on the bar my emotion just begin to be too strong to handle i was on the edge of crying.. and when Paul stand up said to Mike "I love you man' and want to pay the bill ! I cried like a baby... And I cried a second time when The Mayor said" for you its Randall..." Beautiful episode 10/10.

One of my favorite sitcom episodes ever

Warning: Spoilers
Spin City was one of the greatest sitcoms ever. It was one of the few shows that never had a bad episode (at least until Michael J. Fox had to leave). While I will always feel the show went down the tubes because he left, at least we had 100 amazing episodes to look back on.

The entire cast was just perfect in their roles (as always). This particular episode just makes me weep every time it's on. You can tell when the cast is saying goodbye to Mike, their tears are genuine. It's sad, and heartwarming, and leaves Mike's fate post the Mayor's Office on a good note. I can't praise the cast enough, or the writers.

After this episode, Charlie Sheen's character was introduced, and several cast members disappeared, and the writing seemed to get sloppy. But in looking back, to me this was the real Spin City Finale, and the true end of an era. I only wish this entire cast would've lasted longer...
