Clues in the woods
Tweekums4 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
With a group of Icelandic businessmen staying at the Great Northern Agent Cooper does not get a good night's sleep... they do like to sing! After his morning coffee they search Jacque Renault's house and find a rather surprising picture in a magazine; Cooper identifies it as Laura despite her face not being in frame; he recognises the red curtains from his dream! A further clue leads them to a cabin in the woods where they have an interesting conversation with the log lady before heading onto a second cabin. Here they find significant clues including the myna bird that bit Laura and a broken poker chip; the missing piece of which matched the piece found in Laura's stomach. Cooper and the police aren't the only people finding clues; Laura's cousin Maddy has found a cassette hidden in her room but so far its contents remain a mystery. Away from the murder case Laura's father has a breakdown in the Great Northern and Shelly finally confronts her violent husband Leo.

This was another fine episode that had clues coming thick and fast although it is still anybody's guess where they will lead and how they may or may not be related to Laura's murder. Once again Sherilyn Fenn made quite an impression as the seductive Audrey Horne; first when she forces the manager of her father's shop to give her the position she wants and secondly when she turns up in Agent Cooper's bed! Catherine E. Coulson's performance as the 'Log Lady' kept me wondering if her character is mad, psychic or whether she is somehow a witness to the events she described... once again in Twin Peaks confusion proves to be a good thing. Norma's husband Hank has only just got out of prison but already he looks as if he may prove to be an interesting character; he has already thumped Leo and if anybody deserves to be thumped it is Leo!

A dark, atmospheric episode
Out of all the episodes that were not directed by Lynch, this one perhaps does the best job of emulating him. I really appreciate the dark, mysterious, engrossing atmosphere generated by this episode. It does a great job developing the characters and the plot at the same time, all while building and maintaining the sense of mystery.

Most of the episode follows Cooper, Truman, Hawk, and Dr. Hayward through the woods as they search for Jacques Renault's cabin. On the way, they stop off at the Log Lady's cabin. She's always been a fascinating character despite her relatively small amount of screen time (Log Lady intros notwithstanding), and this is perhaps her most substantial scene in the whole series.

Another fantastic scene in this episode is the one between Bobby and Dr. Jacoby. It is dark, powerful, and crucial to the development of Bobby as a character. The party at the end provides one of the best Leland crying scenes (believe me, there are a LOT of those). I really only have one problem with the episode, and that's the last scene. After watching through the series multiple times, I still don't know what to make of it. It just seems so painfully out of character for Audrey.

A Grieving father and iceland people's arrival
CursedChico2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A Grieving father and iceland people's arrival.

It was interesting episode. That asian woman is also doing something with that guy.

Hank came and it was bad for leo. Maybe he was killed also by his wife :)

Cooper is a different guy. Probably he will reject the invitation to sex of that woman.

It is going to be interesting final of season. We will have only 2 episodes. And it will be very interesting.

Mystery, mystery, mystery!
bso0034-125-87823621 November 2012
Great scenery while a strange research in the woods, a weird and aesthetic mix of mystery and paranormal, quite surreal as the talking log gets a role here! Question marks about Laura's friends... Why would they want the clues...? To help or to hide sth..? Hmmm...we'll see. Of course, the mystery goes on in that episode... The story goes on with much suspense, as Mr Horne holds another secret (?), so he offers a surprising scene for us in the middle of this episode...! Also, Audrey unrolls her talent so greatly. Actually, there is such a surprising, loving, strange and humorous scene at the end, regarding Ms Audrey!!! Almost sure you'll want like crazy to watch the next episode just after this! Enjoy!

one of the first season's finest
framptonhollis29 September 2017
This is a classic and quality season one episode of Twin Peaks. There is plenty of mischief and mystery running rampant and it never skips a beat. While not nearly as odd as many later episodes, it still incorporates a fair share of quirkiness and surrealism. The arrival of the Icelandics provides some wacky humor, and the offbeat, yet heavily engaging (and essential) sequence with the Log Lady is amusingly weird, awkwardly funny, and extremely revealing. The Log Lady is, of course, a fan favorite, and this episode really lets her and her unique (to say the least) personality really shine in what is easily the best and likely the most iconic moment from this particular installment (the Leland crying/dancing sequence later on comes close, though). And, to top it all off, two huge cliffhangers are presented at the very end, making even rewatchers, such as myself, hungry and eager for more!

The mystery grows
lareval1 October 2021
Nice episode with good character development and with more unique ones gathering into an already so twisted plot. Laura Palmer's death is starting to become more of a McGuffin due to its strengh to push all the other's secrets forward. The ending leaves you wanting more.

Icelandic Arrival
Hitchcoc3 June 2017
Cooper is a bit of a mess because the hotel where he is staying is hosting a group of Icelandic business people. They are being courted, with hopes of making the big purchase. Meanwhile, Coop and the gang go to see the lady who talks to logs and are led to a cabin in the woods which has evidence of possible foul play. However, the only witness is a mynah bird that is dehydrated and undernourished. The kids get together and plan to raid the psychiatrist's office after finding tapes that Laura made, indicating a romantic interest in the doctor. Shelley also has a big moment but it isn't as big as she might have hoped. She and Bobby have plans. He is mostly interested in his debt to Leo. Couldn't wait to get to Episode 7.

Warning: Spoilers
Decent episode. I've been really rooting for Shelly because Leo is a truly monstrous character, so it was great to see her stick a bullet in him at the end. Not a whole lot more happened this episode. Up to now, there's been a lot of characters keeping secrets and not so much of revealing what these secrets are. We are progressing further at least, and it looks like we might get some real answers in the next episodes. That being said I am still more interested in the characters themselves, though not much happened there either. I am really liking Audrey though, who is a schemer and probably quite dangerous

"Cooper's Dreams"
TheDonaldofDoom26 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I guess I might as well resign to the bizarre scenes that don't make sense. You could do worse than the Log Lady, I suppose. At least she manages to be funny in her strangeness. Somehow I doubt there'll ever be an answer as to how exactly she was able to communicate with her log.

The other very strange scene is the dance. It's funny and strange at the same time to see the dancers copying Leland's sobbing as a dance move. It was probably meant to be sad as well, but it fails in that because the scene is just too comical to make you feel sorry for him. And I have to say he isn't a very good actor, not really able to make the ridiculous scene convincing. Audrey's crying shows she isn't all heartless though. I have to add that the whole subplot with the Icelanders felt like padding and it wasn't that interesting, or even funny. Then again, I'm no big fan of Twin Peaks' style of humour in general.

The most important moment in this episode in my view is the revelation about Laura. Up till now she's been presented as a sweet girl who hid some problems that were affecting her deep down. It turns out she wasn't so innocent after all. We don't get anything concrete from Bobby, just that she wanted to corrupt other people, but hopefully there'll be more about this in future.

Parts of this episode are a bit predictable and drawn out, like Shelly's inevitable shooting of Leo. That was the only thing that was ever going to happen so it doesn't come as the great moment it was probably meant to.

Let the woood talk
AvionPrince1610 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An episode where we still see that Laura had some problems with drugs and cigarettes and we woondering what happened. Leo have some problem with the business. The detective saw the room that was in his dream. The episode is still pretty good and have interesting moments. We see multiple relationships and secrets ones. And we see a scene where the wood talk about what he saw in the night. Pretty funny moment and that help the story a bit. But i found the tv show pretty slow and have some less revelations and become pretty boring sometimes. Need to see more. Maybe all this will have more sense after.

Even goofier
gedikreverdi13 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The love triangle between Leo, his wife and Laura's ex is intriguing and she probably shot his abusive husband and Leo also killed someone but it's not Laura so they won't be able to pin it on him. They also found the red room with the bird Waldo.
