The Beginning of The End?
thecatsmeow222 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I am a regular CSI viewer since the series began in 2000 and one of the things that has kept me tuning in (besides the fact that it is a great show anyway) was the sexual/romantic tension between Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle.

This particular episode was interesting in that it actually examined the fact that some men in the 19th/early 20th century wore corsets to improve their physique while also showing the effects of corsets on the human body (i.e. inner organs get pushed up and in and are squashed into a compact space) possibly contributing to the "fainting spells" most women had.

What really ticked me off was the end of the show. We see Gil sitting on the end of a bed wearing his robe talking, seemingly to no one about how he would like to die and what he would like to accomplish before he passed away. We then see a woman approaching him wearing a silky robe. She then stoops down and we see....SARA SIDLE!!! who murmurs something to the effect that she hopes that that won't happen any time soon. Personally, I was rooting for Lady Heather! That would have been a little more surprising and also given us an insight about the real Grissom.

While most women I've spoken to have mentioned the romantic tension existing between the characters, they've also said that they hope nothing happens - without it the show wouldn't be the same. Personally, I feel let down. The mask is off, the curtain has been pulled aside, the masquerade is over. Wow! though part of me was happy to see them together at last, another part of me mourned this. Where is the series going to go from here? In other shows, most famously "Happy Days" where Fonzie jumped the shark tank on his motorcycle, it was the start of the end of the series. While we may have desired to see Gil and Sara together, we did not actually want it to happen.

So, did CSI jump the shark? In my humble opinion, yes they did. So they might have to either up the ante between Warrick and Catherine or, find another element to pull in.

Three Encounters with Death
Hitchcoc11 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A man's body lies decapitated on a railroad track. He head is not there. It also becomes apparent that he has a tiny waist, about 19 inches. The reason for this is explained in the episode. A second man has a hedonistic episode with a hooker, overindulging on food and sex. He dies. The final, serious to the series thing, is Brass fighting for his life from a gunshot wound in the previous episode. Grissom calls Ellie, his daughter, and we see the complexities of her life on the edge. There is also an eye opener at the end.

Love Is in the Air

Capt. Brass is fighting for his life and Grissom tells the doctor that he has Power of Attorney, and decides he shall be submitted to a surgery to remove the bullet that is endangering his life. He also contacts Ellie, informing the condition of her father. Grissom is summoned to a crime scene of a man with severed head on the train tracks. Nick, Sara and Sofia work in the case and they learn that the victim is Caleb Carson. When David Phillips arrives in the scene, they see that the victim has a very small waist. Grissom learns that Carson used corset and was a huge fan of the American Civil War. His house looks like a museum and soon they discover what happened to Carlson. Meanwhile, Catherine and Warrick investigate the death of Manny Rupert, who was found by his super dead on his bed. His apartment is trashed, with cocaine, pills and marijuana, and they believe Manny gave a party. When Warrick interviews Manny's sister Darcy, he learns what happened with him.

"Way to Go" is a great episode of "CSI", with the lead story of Brass in the hospital and the drama with his daughter Ellie, two interesting segments and a surprising conclusion, with the revelation of a secret romance. My vote is eight.

Grissom and Sara
bellamarcella10 November 2006
I was SO glad to see them together FINALLY! after all the tension! I think they played it well though b/c the only way that the show would be changed by the event, was if there were significant character changes, (i.e...grissom opening up etc.)I really don't anticipate a significant change for Grissom, I think Sara will move on AGAIN, and then go back to him AGAIN, so on and so forth, typical Sara behavior. I just hope that by the end of the show that they will have gotten together for real. But since that episode nothing has interfered with the show's dynamic, I think it was done very well, and I hope for some more teasers in the future!

A Fitting Season Finale For A Show That Is Sinking Fast
ccthemovieman-18 May 2007
This takes up where last week's show ended, with "Captain Jim Brass" (Paul Guilfolye) shot. We find out he is seriously wounded and a life-threatening decision has to be made regarding whether to take a chance with a risky operation.

Meanwhile, Gil gets called out for a bizarre case in which a man is found dead on railroad tracks. He has been decapitated and has an usually small waist. It turns out caused of death was a bullet to the head, but his organs have been moved out of place with pressure on that waist area for years. This guy suffered for a long time. Nick finds the head down the tracks somewhere.

In a second case, a man is found lying dead in his bed in a hotel. There is drugs, alcohol, a gun, just about "all seven sins located here," according to Catherine, who is investigating with Warrick.

The first case gets the main focus and winds up being out corsets and Civil War reenactments. The second case is about a hooker.

This show's final episode of the season, sadly, is a good example of low-class it has dropped over the years with a lot of sleazy jokes, many by CSI personnel especially Marg Helgenberger's "Catherine" who really has become hard-looking and cheap. At the end, we see a quick glimpse of the boss of the CSI and Sara, both in the bedroom. I guess that was supposed to be these slime-ball writers dramatic ending to the season. That about kind of sums up what I'm talking about....and I didn't even mention Brass's ultra-snotty daughter.

This is a big reason I now rate this below the CSI-NY and Miami shows, which deal more in crime while LV has become kinky sex and smart-ass dialog.

At least we find out good news regarding Lt. Brass. He gives a thumbs up sign just before the sleazy ending to the show. For years, I have this show a "thumbs up" but that was when it was a crime program.

Grissom and Sara
svegaslaw4 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I do not wish to be mean, but my wish for the show is Sara being replaced. Her character drives me almost as crazy as she is. After the episode where they were together at the end, I could not bring myself to watch the next season. The other characters and actors had a class and line delivery that Sara's character and actress could not match. I have now found a new show to watch, which was hard. I could recite the words to most episodes because we owned the DVD sets and watched them often. The other characters were such a wonderful mix of personalities that I could overlook the deadpan character of Sara. If she is ever replaced I may go back to watching the show again.

A disappointing finale
LoveIsAStateOfMind29 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I painfully wrapped Season 6 of CSI. Even if we ignore the OOC Grissom and OOC Sara and all the shippy moments, it was still painfully weak. Having to have Brass flatline twice, a man wearing a corset and a man who wanted to kill himself because he was diabetic to make it drama was just so weak it hurt. The cases were definitely a mid-season type case. I have to say, definitely was not a big fan of Sofia when she joined in Season 5 but throughout Season 6 as a detective she's grown on me and I never thought I would say this but I would actually prefer it if she and Grissom had a thing rather than Grissom and Sara because at least Grissom/Sofia have chemistry and makes it more believable since he's actually asked her to dinner before and not turned her down consistently.

Good things about the finale .... well, not a lot. The return of Ellie was a smart move as it added dynamic and some sort of much needed interest. Also liked Sofia's concern for Brass, after all they've been through a lot together early on in the season. Nick/Warrick banter about the prostitute, Nick/Grissom about the head, Hodges/Nick moment, Catherine's witty remarks. But that's pushing it because there's usually a lot of the above in every episode so nothing special to make it a finale.

Bad things. Top of the list would be the forced Grissom/Sara moments of which there were several as if they were trying to force all the moments which should have been spread over 6 years into one episode to justify the sleeping together. The whole dual with the cameras was so cheesy and pathetic and SO OOC for Grissom it hurt. (More a Nick/Sara, Greg moment). And then the lame ending. I'm sorry but even if I were a GSR shipper, I would be disappointed with the lame way they got together and the ending .... Whoever tries to call that a cliffhanger needs a head check. And it was lame lame lame lame even if I could stand the pairing. For instance I would rather not take any shippy moments than have such a forced ending to a season if it was with a couple I liked. Onto other things .... lack of Greggo in the episode, the fact that I thought we were going to have more scenes of Warrick with his wife, complete lack of Grissom/Catherine interaction. (I don't count them standing watching Brass as interaction.) As much as I love Sara with Nick, Sara can't carry the show. As much as people say Grissom IS the show, I think it's his interaction with Catherine/Nick/Greg/Hodges/Brass/Sofia that carries the show (in this season anyway). So when you have Grissom and Sara as the main focus of the show it will die. Catherine does the drama well which is why so many episodes have been character focused around her and when that doesn't happen for awhile, it shows.

It's going to scrape through Season 7 and unless the writers get a grip it's going to end in Season 7. Billy Petersen leaving might actually give the show a chance to revive itself with a new focus for Season 8.

I really don't want to see CSI die off after it's done such a lot for TV so I hope Season 7 is nothing like parts of Season 6 (notably the finale).

CSI doesn't need to do big finales. Season 5 worked because it had plot and substance but it seems they made a half hearted attempt with Season 6 because they felt they had to and it just fell flat.
