When I first started working on the Stan Winston Week series, the only real hopes I had were that I would be able to get a few cool interviews with some hugely talented folks for our readers to enjoy and put together a series that was worthy of Winston and his legendary talent and vision. What I didn’t expect was that, throughout the interview process, I’d be privy to so many incredibly touching and personal stories about Winston and how even the littlest things that he did in his career ended up having a huge impact on the special effects industry.
For award-winning special effects artist Howard Berger, the influence Stan would have over his life and career, began at a very early age. “I first met Stan when I was 12-years-old. I was living up in Northridge at the time and I was only about three miles...

Terry Gilliam has described the upcoming Monty Python reunion shows as "depressing".
The director and Python artist joked that the comedy group have "sold out" by reuniting for a series of gigs at London's O2 venue this summer.
"I might not be alive by then," he told the Standard. "It's too big a year of work. I'm not going to survive it. With any luck, the Python shows will be cancelled."
Gilliam said that the group won't rehearse until a week and a half before the shows begin.
"We know it. We've done it. There's only a little bit of me in it anyway, which obviously isn't fair... We have had a read-through and I tell you Mike Palin is the funniest Python by far; just a genius.
"Why he wastes his time on these boring travel shows I have no idea."
Discussing the reunion, he continued: "It's good, seeing each other again,...

They brought the world the game-changing sketch comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus. They concocted bizarre monstrosities of movies like The Meaning of Life, Life of Brian and The Holy Grail. Then the members of the adored and acclaimed comedy troupe went their separate ways. But for one night only, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin will reunite in London for The Last Night of Monty Python. If you didn't snag tickets to the much-anticipated stage show, you still have a shot to enjoy all its mayhem thanks to a special movie-theater expansion. Variety reports Picturehouse Entertainment has made a deal that will broadcast The Last Night of Monty Python live to theaters around the world on July 20th. Monty Python lovers now have cause to rejoice! Although only a lucky few will get to see The Last Night of Monty Python (the final stage show of Britain’s famed comedy troupe) live, Picturehouse Entertainment has nabbed the rights to broadcast it in movie theaters around the world.
The show is being billed as the farewell performance of all the remaining members of Monty Python, and will be performed at London’s O2 Arena on July 20 while being simultaneously broadcast to 450 theaters across the UK, and 1500 theaters worldwide. This is quite a coup for Picturehouse given the continued popularity of the Pythons; the O2 show was sold out within a matter of minutes, so a great many fans will welcome the opportunity to catch the live broadcast on a big screen.
Live broadcasts in cinemas of sporting events, concerts, and theater productions have become increasingly popular over the years.

As we learned last fall, the surviving members of the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python were reuniting for a series of live shows at London's O2 Arena in July. However, for those who don't live across the pond or couldn't get tickets, you should have no problem seeing this anticipated reunion of some of the greatest minds in comedy history. Picturehouse Entertainment has announced (via Deadline) that they will broadcast the "final reunion, sort of" on July 20th to movie theaters in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Russia and Sweden. That's only one show out of the 10 performances, but that should be enough. Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Terry Jones are all getting together to perform for the first time in ages. The show was originally planned as a one night only event, but it was expanded when the interest soared through the roof. Titled...

The last night of blind auditions for Season 5 of "The Voice" brought a bit of a religious experience for one of the superstar coaches -- and, likely, the viewers at home, as well.
On Monday (Oct. 7) night, minister's daughter Tamara Chauniece took the stage to prove what she's got, belting out Beyonce's emotional ballad "1+1." Her emotional delivery earned an immediate turn from coach Christina Aguilera, while, after some consideration, CeeLo Green turned a bit later.
It was a heated debate between the two coaches, trying to prove why they were the right mentor for her. CeeLo latched onto Tamara's mention that both of her parents were ministers, mentioning that his were as well.
"I ended up being a sinner," CeeLo joked. "But it's not too late, you can save me."
"I can," she replied. "Come to Jesus." CeeLo quipped immediately: "Jesus look good."
Whether it was the religious connection or his determination,...

From Anchorman to This is 40, Paul Rudd has become the ultimate straight guy – and we all adore him for it. So what's he doing in a dark film based on an Icelandic movie? Sasha Frere-Jones joins him in New York to find out
When I go to meet Paul Rudd at a low-key restaurant in Tribeca, I am early. A busboy is dragging a marble-topped table out the door while arguing with a tall and elegant woman. I circle the block and return, only to enter several paces behind Rudd. The woman turns out to be the owner. Whoever hoisted the table is gone, fired moments before.
"And he was shouting! It is 11am and he is drunk! Paul, would you have defended me?" she asks in mock distress. Smiling his "I know what you mean" smile, Rudd nods: "I would have had your back." "Thank you, Paul," the owner says,...

Twilight star Ashley Greene, 25, and Alex Pettyfer, 22, of the upcoming Magic Mike took home the biggest prizes of the night – Superstars of Tomorrow — and Nickelodeon mainstay Miranda Cosgrove, 19, won Crossover of the Year for her recent foray into music. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will be the most beautiful couple ever when they wed in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, but in a new interview K-Stew admits things weren't so glamorous behind the scenes! The last night in Seaside Heights for the cast of " Jersey Shore " was wet and wild! The cast, who will leave the Shore today after wrapping up filming seasons four and five back to back, was spotted having a water gun fight on Sunday night on the roof of their pad. Deena seemed to be the target for Pauly D , The Situation and Ronnie -- who all aimed at her face with their guns and a can of silly spray. We're guessing they're all looking forward to some time away from the cameras. Read more...

It’s a huge shame that in the week the Super 8 trailer had audiences salivating for the next great disaster film, this week’s two examples have been wholly disappointing. While Battle: Los Angeles has moved viewers to laughter with its sheer pomposity, the DVD release of last year’s Skyline manages to be even worse. There’s little here you’ve not seen before, with multi-ethnic groups huddling for survival as the planet comes under attack from an unpleasant alien force. Where Skyline differs most from the likes of Independence Day or Cloverfield is in its comparative lack of quality.
No-one expects heartbreaking dialogue or stirring performances in a disaster flick but Skyline’s predecessors at least spent a little time on character development, however two-dimensional. Here we’re lumbered with a TV movie cast – Scrubs’ Donald Faison is probably the biggest name; though Sweet Valley High’s...

Garrett Hedlund might have been treated to Kristen Stewart's cooking during the filming of "On the Road," but it was another memorable meal that the "Country Strong" star recalled from the last night of working on the film that sounds like it could have been pulled right from the Jack Kerouac novel.
"It's all kind of a blur," he told MTV News. "The last night that I was in San Francisco, Carolyn Cassady, who's the actual Camille in the book, she's 89 years old [and she] came down to San Francisco to meet with us. A lot of the family members came down and we got to all have dinner together."
What Hedlund most wondered was if he would pass the test to play the role.

The red carpet premiere of Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes' new movie Last Night was called off at the Rome Film Festival in Italy after hundreds of workers gathered to protest against cuts to the film and TV industry.
The actresses were forced to use a side entrance for the opening celebrations after approximately 2,000 demonstrators invaded the event on Thursday.
Screenwriters, actors and directors carried banners and marched together against the government's decision to cut its art budget.
The Last Night screening began almost two hours late but director Massy Tadjedin backed the Italians, insisting, "We are pleased to renounce the red carpet and support you."
Rain Man actress Valeria Golino, one of the Italian stars who joined the cause, claims workers had no choice but to protest.
She says, "The government disrespects our industry, which means culture, entertainment. They disrespect the people who work in the industry - it would be enough to protest about that. They call us names, that would be enough to protest. But that's not (the) only (thing) - they've cut our funds for (the) film industry. They've cut tax shelter, tax credit, which was our only hope for independent movies to be made. It's a farce."...

Keira Knightley, Last Night Last Night, Massy Tadjedin's New York-set marital drama starring Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes, and Guillaume Canet, opened the 2010 edition of the Rome Film Festival this evening. Regarding the subject of marital infidelity — the central topic in Last Night — Knightley told reporters the following: "Sometimes I went into it thinking the mental infidelity was worse, then we're shooting and I think, 'No, No, the physical's much worse. I come out and I have no idea." Outside the theater, Italian film industry workers were less concerned with how one engages in extra-marital flings than with the decision of Silvio Berlusconi's right-wing government to cut funds for the arts. The Last Night red carpet ceremony was canceled, but the film's director and performers made an appearance to express their solidarity with their fellow film industry workers. The last night of audition rounds for this season of American Idol aired last night and, thankfully, the episode highlighted more good auditions than sob stories and weirdoes. Last night's episode contained auditions from the numerous cities where Idol set up its judgmental camp on the quest to find the next American idol. One of the good singers whose audition hadn't previously aired was Lacy Brown. Last season, Brown made it all the way through the Hollywood rounds, until the round where the top 24 were chosen. She was called in to face the judges alongside Megan Joy, who best her out for a spot in the top 24. Remember M ...

This news came out of nowhere when it hit my inbox this morning, making good on a Twitter promise that there would be a "big announcement" from Shooter Jennings today...
Legendary genre author and Fangoria contributor Stephen King will be appearing on Jennings' forthcoming concept album, Black Ribbons - due out March 2nd on Black Country Rock/Rocket Science Ventures. King will provide the voice of "Will O' The Wisp," a late-night talk radio host who is in the last hour of his final broadcast before the airwaves are overtaken by "government-approved and regulated transmissions."
Read more from the official announcement below:
With nothing left to lose, the radio host lets loose with a series of rants, punctuating his diatribes with selections from the discography of (Jennings' new band) Hierophant. Throughout the album's 14 songs, Will O' The Wisp flits in and out, painting an apocalyptic picture of what America could become in the not-so-distant future,...

Eli Roth paid his way through film school with a job as an online sex worker.
The Hostel director and star of Inglourious Basterds was paid by porn giant Penthouse to titillate men on the internet by pretending to be a rock groupie called Tami.
Roth tells NYPost.com's PopWrap, "When I was in college I used to work as an online operator for Penthouse, posing as a woman. That's how I paid for my student films. They hired guys because guys know what other guys want to hear.
"The creepy thing was, because this was in 1991, we only got doctors and scientists because they were the ones using the Internet. One guy told a customer he was a stripper and he started FedExing him cash - I never took it to that level, but guys were paying $1 a minute to talk with us. There were ads for me in magazines too!"
Roth kept the conversations realistic by creating a whole back story for Tami: "She was a dirty w**re who lived in the East Village (in New York). Tami was a heavy metal chick who had a gang bang with Guns N' Roses and Poison in one night!"
And he was so convincing, when he finally decided to out himself as a man to his regulars, they didn't believe him: "The last night my friend and I outed ourselves. We wrote, 'We are men! We have penises! We've been f**king with you the whole time!'
"The guys were like, 'Oh shut up Tami, tell me about your t*ts.'"...
