Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2023 features an event long in the making.
On March 6, History of the World, Part II will finally arrive more than 40 years after Mel Brooks’ classic comedy History of the World, Part I. first premiered. Of course, Brooks never had any intention of adding future parts to his ahistorical film, but that yet makes the arrival of Part II so many years later even funnier. Described as a four-night comedy event, History of the World, Part II will release two episodes a day through March 9. Brooks returns to write and executive produce this series and will star alongside Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. Guest stars include…everyone. Basically just everyone.

It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.
If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. It’s also a chance for superfans to pause and rewind...

Where does the expression "If you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you" come from? Could it be true that the inspiration for Dracula actually comes from Rhode Island? Why did we start thinking aliens traveled exclusively in flying saucers?
These are the types of questions answered in Don Wildman's Travel Channel series "Monumental Mysteries," premiering Thursday, May 9. The veteran of such derring-do series as "Off Limits" and "Cities of the Underworld" is now exploring the nation's monuments and sorting out fact from fiction when it comes to their history.
He brings a natural exuberance to the task and says the legends and myths around our monuments arise from the human need to tell stories that will live on.
"Everything in life, obscure or famous, eventually becomes a story with a hero and an obstacle," Wildman tells Zap2it. "It's the common thread of human society. We tell stories.

Lately, Detroit Tiger all-star outfielder Curtis Granderson has been in the news because he might be joining the New York Yankees. However, if Major League Baseball free agency doesn't make him a household name, television might. Granderson has an idea for a reality series that's being shopped around now and it's not like anything else other athletes have pitched.
Granderson's series is called Stadium Secrets and it will be like History Channel's Cities of the Underworld. In fact, it might be suited to the History Channel. Granderson would host the show and lead viewers into the inner recesses and hidden passages of famous stadia around the world -- although it'll probably start with American locations.

Let The Right One In (Magnolia) An awkward 12 year-old boy, ignored by his mother and the target of bullies, finds himself drawn to his new neighbor: a girl his own age who only appears at night, and seems herself to be as lonely an outcast as he. Haunting film from Sweden is best described as The 400 Blows meets Nosferatu, and contains some of the most haunting imagery of any film in recent memory. Truly a unique and memorable work. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Featurette; Photo and poster gallery. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount offers two more classic titles, restored, remastered and loaded with extras. Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief stars Cary Grant as a retired jewel thief trying to enjoy his sunset years on the French Riviera with a minimum of drama, until he catches the eye of a high-maintenance heiress (Grace Kelly,...

The History Channel has given series renewals to The Universe and Cities of the Underworld.
The network has given 13-episode orders to each series, which debuted this year. Universe will have its second-season premiere in the fourth quarter, while Cities will return in the first quarter of 2008.
Meanwhile, History.com said it is launching a new shortform series titled Backyard Astronomer that will serve as a companion to Universe. The series will help viewers identify stars and explain the different phases of the moon among other astronomy-related topics.
The Naked Underground, the broadband series that is an offshoot of Cities, also will be returning.
"It is imperative that we stay current and fresh in our approach to programming," said Nancy Dubuc, executive vp and GM at the History Channel. "Our strategy is to continue building our schedule around appointment television like 'Cities of the Underworld' and 'The Universe.' "
Universe is produced by Flight 33 Prods.; Cities is from Authentic Entertainment.
