When Russo Brothers Almost Quit On Captain America: Civil War (Photo Credit –Instagram/IMDb)
Captain America: Civil War beautifully set the stage in a way for the Avengers: Infinity War. When Tony Stark reveals to Bruce Banner that the Avengers have broken up, Bruce innocently questions him, “Like the Beetles?” It generated a lot of laughs in the theatres, but that might not have been possible if Marvel’s Creative Committee stopped the Russo brothers from pitting Tony and Steve Rogers against each other in the 2016 movie.
Civil War was directed by the director sibling duo Joe Russo and Anthony Russo and featured most of the Avengers. However, Thor and Hulk were not part of the film. It featured Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch,...

Elizabeth Olsen has played the role of Wanda Maximoff a.k.a Scarlet Witch in the MCU since Avengers: Age of Ultron. From being a brainwashed member of Hydra to being one of the Og Avengers, the character has had an interesting arc in the MCU, which seemingly ended in 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
However, Scarlet Witch had one of her most powerful and tragic moments in Avengers: Infinity War where she had to protect Vision, who possessed the Mind Stone, from the Black Order. While there are some amazing scenes with the actress in the film, fans seem to be annoyed at the MCU for deleting a pivotal sequence from the movie.
Elizabeth Olsen’s Amazing Battle Sequence Was Reduced In Avengers: Infinity War A still from Avengers: Infinity War
Elizabeth Olsen quickly became a fan favorite when she starred as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU.

With "Avengers: Endgame" behind us and Chris Evans having retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe until further notice, we can all agree that "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the best Steve Rogers solo film, right? From its character work to its action sequences and a rousing score by the legendary Alan Silvestri, director Joe Johnston's WWII adventure is a top-tier MCU movie. While it may lack the visceral melees that the Russo Brothers brought to its sequels, "The First Avenger" delivers more than enough whiz-bang thrills and Brooklyn attitude to make up the difference (that and its politics are much less confused than those of "The Winter Soldier").
Johnston's superhero picture also boasts what is still one of the McU's most distinguished casts, pairing Evans with Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, and Dominic Cooper. Even Natalie Dormer, David Bradley,...

Thanks to recent trends that have been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like diverse Marvel projects, those produced by other studios before and parallel to the MCU are part of the same multiverse. Given that it has been established that the multiverse functions on a ‘What If’ mechanism (basically there is a norm that things deviate from rather than being radically different from the get-go), it begs the question of why some concepts exist in certain universes, but are absent from others.
Hydra in the MCU
For example, it seems that whichever universe has the X-Men, usually does not have the Avengers, and the universes that have a version of the Avengers, usually end up without a unified team of mutants. This has been speculated about by fans, and the conclusion that has been reached might be a little more out there than what most would expect.

Recently, Marvel made one of the most surprising announcements of 2024, and no, this was not an announcement for a new move but a brand-new gameplay trailer for a video game. This title is called Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and it is being helmed by none other than Amy Hennig, the same person behind the original Uncharted trilogy of games.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a brand-new action-adventure title set in the World War II era. It would feature the likes of Captain America and Black Panther. It is being developed by Skydance New Media, and its visuals are just mind-blowing. This is no surprise, given the fact that this game is actually built on Unreal Engine 5. While the game has only been announced recently, fans have already started comparing it with some other forms of media.
Fans can’t help but compare Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra with a superhit MCU movie.

With the recent reveal trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra came a renewed sense of excitement from fans of the franchise. During the Epic Games panel at the Game Developers Conference fans finally discovered the official title for the game which was teased way back in 2022.
Although there isn’t much given away in terms of gameplay, the game being developed by Skydance New Media does show that in addition to the two main protagonists of Captain America and Black Panther, players will also be to play as one of the Howling Commandos and as a member of the Wakandan Spy Network. Having defeated some of the most formidable villains, Captain America is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe. Though it is kind of difficult for people to picture him as a villain, Marvel revealed in 2016 that he was a Hydra member.
For those who do not know, Hydra is a fictional terrorist organization that appears in Marvel comics and was formerly a Nazi organization. As soon as this became widely known on social media, readers and the general public began to respond with headlines and opinion pieces about how Marvel had transformed an American icon into a Nazi.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra just got an explosive story trailer during the State of Unreal 2024 presentation and Unreal Engine showcased its might once again. The trailer showcased Captain America hunting Black Panther with the game set in the year 1943, as per the title.

The trailer ended with the release date shown as 2025, and while it’s a long wait for the title, fans wouldn’t worry much so long as the game releases without bugs and glitches.

This year, State of Unreal 2024 has released a lot of new announcements, but one of the major ones is the upcoming Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Currently, this is a new game that is being developed by Skydance New Media and will tell the story of Captain America and Black Panther as they attempt to thwart Hydra’s plans in Paris.
At the moment, we do not have a lot of information regarding this game, as the only trailer we have received is quite short and is mainly aimed at revealing some of the characters we will see in the game, but even that short trailer was enough to get a major reaction from the gaming community.

Stan Lee was never afraid to go places with his superheroes like Captain America and Iron Man from his early days at Marvel Comics. This confidence seeped down to every comic writer at the company who often subverted their fan expectation with certain storylines. However, there were several controversial choices that writers had to make, which did not impress the fandom.
Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics made some controversial choices in its decades-long storytelling
Some writers quickly realized their mistakes and figured out a way around them, while others chose to run with their choice to see where it took them. The latter choice either brought them new fans or angered the existing ones.

Even though 2017 may not seem that long ago, it’s a huge amount of time in terms of board game development and popularity. With that in mind, it’s incredible to think that the original Mythic Battles: Pantheon was one of the first games to achieve over a million dollars on Kickstarter, and now, several reprints and at least one major rules revision later, it remains among the most revered skirmish games ever made.
Mythic Battles: Pantheon is a two to four player miniatures game which comes with a ton of miniatures in the core box, and even more in the Pandora’s Box expansion – which is regularly bundled with the core game and contains all the Stretch Goals from the original Kickstarter. Between these two boxes, players will have something like forty or fifty units and well over a hundred miniatures split across them.

There are a whole lot of things that Robert Redford is famous for: acting, directing, co-founding the Sundance Film Festival, being incredibly handsome, even running Hydra from within the United States government ... the list goes on and on and on. He became a silver screen icon in classic films like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Way We Were," "The Sting," "Three Days of the Condor," "The Natural," "Sneakers," and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." He even won an Academy Award for directing the acclaimed 1980 drama "Ordinary People."
But in spite of all that there's one thing that Robert Redford is not famous for, and that's his tireless work in the horror genre. That's because, despite an acting career that spanned 60 years, he never really made any horror films. You'd have to go way back to 1962 to find Redford's last real brush with the supernatural, but it's well worth the journey.

Yudai Yamaguchi and Tak Sakaguchi have repeatedly collaborated through the years in various capacities, with their common efforts resulting in a number of cult movies, including “Versus”, “Battle Baseball”, “Yakuza Weapon” etc. Now they are once more coming together in a different action film that boasts a meta approach, while including “Hydra”'s Kensuke Sonomura in the role of the action director.

Action film actor Toshiro Takuma has only one goal on his mind, the perfection of action film acting, essentially to achieve utter realism and not have screen battles that are essentially dancing. However, in an industry addicted to wires, CGI and quick editing to simulate speed, he expectedly finds himself ostracized. Eventually, with the help of his dedicated apprentice Akira, he decides to make a movie as he dreamt and for that purpose, they move into an uninhabited island to shoot unbothered.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot developments in Episode 2 of Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion,” currently streaming on Disney+.
Samuel L. Jackson has played the super spy Nick Fury in 11 movies for Marvel Studios. Sometimes, he’s appeared in only a brief cameo; other times, he’s been the second or third lead in a movie with “Captain” in the title. In every appearance, Jackson exudes preternatural calm and cunning as one of the most formidable, non-superpowered humans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it wasn’t until the actor’s first foray as the lead in an MCU project — the Disney+ series “Secret Invasion” — that Marvel has really addressed the fact that Nick Fury is also a Black man who grew up in America.
“We very seldom deal with Nick Fury in that way,” Jackson says.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a chaotic state since “Avengers: Endgame” cleared out a huge number of its heaviest hitters. Since then, thanks in part to Covid, the MCU hasn’t coalesced as clearly as the retroactively named “Infinity Saga.” So if you’re here, it’s probably because you’re wondering the same thing we are — who are the current most powerful characters?
That’s a big question but one we’re happy to answer, definitively. Is it Doctor Strange? Thor? Kang the Conqueror? Wanda? Read on to find out for yourself. But note: All answers are final… at least until more movies come out.
Of course, the MCU’s backstory stretches back billions of years and even ignoring the blip, that includes an awful lot of dead bodies. To keep things as manageable as possible, we’re limiting this count to characters who are currently alive,...

Spies are everywhere these days on the small screen. The quality varies depending on which series you watch, but we have everything from humorous takes (The Recruit) to political action (The Night Agent) and beyond. Even though there is a remake of Mr. and Mrs. Smith on network television, the lack of a good, big-scale espionage epic has been missing for quite some time. When you look at the history of how the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to be, the casting of Robert Downey Jr. was viewed as a very risky decision. And now we can't imagine anyone else but him as "Iron Man." It is undoubtedly one of Marvel Studios' greatest successes, and in the years to come, the growing interest in the MCU would help turn more niche comic book titles into megablockbuster hits ("Guardians of the Galaxy").
At this point, the MCU has essentially reached a point where its projects no longer need to prove themselves in order to be successful. "Iron Man" was, by all accounts, a miracle that led to Marvel Studios' domination. When we talk about surprises under the Marvel banner, especially given how quickly folks seemed to turn on it, I would argue that one of Marvel's greatest success stories is one that we don't really talk about as much.

Marvel Studios has created a film and television franchise unlike any other. Intricately stitching together stories that reference and introduce one another, each Marvel Cinematic Universe character and project feels like it's a fully realized world. Despite containing over twenty films and numerous television shows, Kevin Feige, talented producers, and filmmakers have worked together for over a decade to forge a complex yet coherent series that fans and critics adore. Marvel Studios' penchant for planning projects in advance has led to plot seeds growing into overarching and fruitful storylines.

"May the syrup be tasty!" Well Go USA is releasing this Japanese action comedy on VOD & DVD starting tomorrow - this trailer dropped a few weeks ago but we're only catching up with it now. Baby Assassins is a hitwoman action comedy from Japan directed by filmmaker Yugo Sakamoto. Chisato and Mahilo are two high school girls who are about to graduate. They also happen to both be highly skilled assassins. When the organization they work for orders them to share a room, the relationship between them turns sour. This "badass new martial arts action-comedy" is directed by Hugo Sakamoto and it stars the inimitable Akari Takaishi, the rising star and Snake Eyes and Rurouni Kenshin franchise stuntwoman Saori Izawa, and the lightning-fast Masanori Mimoto—now available to watch early, exclusively on Hi-yah! - if you prefer streaming. This definitely looks like fun, but it really does have a direct-to-video vibe about it.

Four mystery celebrities hit the stage on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.” Team Good was represented by Armadillo and Ringmaster, Team Bad sent out Hydra and Team Cuddly risked Miss Teddy. Everyone tried their best, but ultimately it was the three-headed Hydra that lost all of his heads after singing “Sharp Dressed Man” by Zz Top. Only guest panelist Nicole Byer correctly guessed legendary magicians and comedians Penn & Teller were hiding inside!

A huge part of the appeal of “The Masked Singer” is trying to figure out which famous faces are hidden beneath those masks. Season 7 of this reality competition series promises to be the toughest to date with a whopping 16 celebrities hidden inside 15 costumes. Because there are so many stars in the hunt for the Golden Mask, Fox split them up into three groups.
Group A is down to just one contestant, the Firefly. In the first few weeks of the competition we saw the elimination of Cyclops (Jorge Garcia), McTerrier (Duff Goldman), Ram (Joe Buck) and Thingamabob (Jordan Mailata). Group B made their first appearance on March 30 and Lemur didn’t last; she was unmasked as supermodel Christie Brinkley, just as we predicted.

This article contains major spoilers for Marvel’s new Punisher series.
Jason Aaron has written just about every corner of the Marvel Universe. His seven year run on Thor is critically beloved and the foundation of Thor: Love and Thunder. He’s been the architect of the Avengers for 50+ issues now, and put in a brief bright spot on Wolverine and the X-Men in one of the mutants’ darkest publishing times. He’s even got a stint on a Max line Punisher book under his belt. But he really wanted to play with Frank Castle in the main Marvel Universe.
“I’d never really written Frank in a big way in the Marvel U until I did War of the Realms and threw Frank into that,” Aaron tells us in an interview about his new book Punisher, with Jesus Saiz, Paul Azaceta, and Dave Stewart. “I had a lot of...

This The Falcon and the Winter Soldier review contains spoilers.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 2
The first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier started off with a fun action sequence to get it out of the way so it could move on to all the dread and depression. Even with the introduction of the Flag-Smashers as a threat, it has nothing on the emotional gut punch of Bucky trying to live with the horrors of his actions under Hydra’s control. Similarly, the first episode ended with Sam Wilson feeling incredibly betrayed to find out that the United States government was not content with leaving Captain America’s shield in a museum as promised. Instead, they wanted to hand it off to a new Captain America that they – and not Steve Rogers – had handpicked.
In comic book canon, there are five major Captain America replacements throughout the years,...

WandaVision is (thus far!) a whimsical deviation from Marvel’s big-screen spectacles. In its first two episodes, now streaming on Disney+, the series perfectly emulates ‘50s and ‘60s sitcoms like I Love Lucy and Bewitched.
Painstaking detail went into replicating the old-school charm of those classic series, from the black-and-white filter to utilizing a live studio audience (for Episode 1) — as was custom back in the day — to Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s delightful physical comedy akin to Lucille Ball and Dick Van Dyke.

“It also indicates, as you noted, we handed the baton nicely to Daisy,” EP Jed Whedon says of the Chloe Bennett portrayed Inhuman character. “You really get the sense that she’s now doing what he did,” the S.H.I.E.Ld. co-showrunner adds “She’s found a lost person who has potential and she’s building a family and she’s taken his role. Unlike some other details about the upcoming Black Widow, we actually do know what the Red Room is! The Red Room is a crucial part of Natasha Romanoff's backstory as the site of much of her training as a spy and assassin in her youth in Russia. While we wait to learn more about the creepy, terrifying "school" in the new movie, let's review what we know so far.
We learn a lot about the Red Room academy in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where we see several of Natasha's flashbacks to her time in the facility. The goal of the academy is to brainwash and train girls to become deadly Soviet assassins, usually starting from a very young age. Natasha's flashbacks show how the girls were trained during her time there. It includes mandatory videos of American movies to teach them English but they're also embedded with subliminal brainwashing messaging,...

Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier’s prosthetic arm is pretty damn cool. The original version seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was designed by Hydra and proved more than a match for Cap. However, it wasn’t destined to last. The events of Captain America: Civil War showed its limitations, proving useless against Black Panther and Spider-Man and eventually being disintegrated by Iron Man’s unibeam. However, since the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War we’ve seen Bucky wielding a new Wakandan prosthetic (designed by Shuri), and it seems that this is full of surprises we’ll get to see in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Sebastian Stan started shooting the Disney+ show today, and he hinted at its hidden features in a recent appearance on the Fandemic Tour. Responding to an audience question as to which arm he preferred, Stan replied:

Robert Downey Jr. won't campaign for an Oscar nomination off the back of his work as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame and the McU.
Despite a Change.org petition gaining traction that seeks to acquire some official recognition from the Academy for Robert Downey Jr.'s decade+ work as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor has seemingly confirmed that he isn't really into the idea, and has even gone some way to nix any plan from Marvel or Disney to pursue it via Avengers: Endgame's "for your consideration" campaign.
Downey Jr. was in conversation with Howard Stern earlier this week when the host broached the subject of a potential Oscar nomination passing him by, with Stern indicating that he deserved some Oscar love for the hard work he'd put in over the years. Black Widow finally gets her own solo movie this coming May, but it’ll be bittersweet for fans as instead of marking the beginning of a standalone franchise for Natasha Romanoff, it’ll be more like a final hurrah. The film, set after the events of Captain America: Civil War as well as flashing back to her origins, comes after Nat died in Avengers: Endgame. So, don’t expect Scarlett Johansson to stick around for multiple movies.
That said, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a Black Widow 2. This is Marvel we’re talking about, after all, so of course there are plans for a sequel. At least, that’s what we’ve heard from our sources – the same ones who told us Taskmaster would be the villain in Black Widow back in March. According to them, the studio hopes to make a BW2 but ScarJo won’t be the lead.

It’s no secret that Avengers: Endgame is a film of blockbuster proportions.
In fact, it’s so big that you’d really need to see the McU juggernaut three or four times before you catch every little reference and Easter egg planted by Joe and Anthony Russo, who, together with Kevin Feige and the creative team at Marvel Studios, can now claim ownership of the highest-grossing Hollywood movie, well, ever.
But it’s not just the box office numbers that make Endgame so impressive, it’s the tiny little details – Cap saying “hail Hydra;” Joe Russo’s cameo – that make it so special. Among those is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of Ant-Man downsizing just prior to Thanos’ attack on Avengers HQ, which certainly answers the question of how Scott Lang managed to survive an explosion at point-blank range.

From 1937 to 1941, Shanghai was dubbed a “solitary island” in that, alone in China after the Japanese invasion, there were areas within it that were under international control, namely the French and British Concessions. They were, undoubtedly, teeming with spies and collaborators and double agents, but it strains credibility that they could have been anything like as fraught and riven as the French-administered enclave in the 1941 of Sixth Generation Chinese director Lou Ye’s grandiloquently incoherent misfire “Saturday Fiction.” Starring/wasting the luminous Gong Li, the black and white film strays further away from the observational art-house calm of Lou’s 2014 “Blind Massage,” and plows deeper into the tangled thickets of dubious motivation and incomprehensible behavior that marred his last film, police procedural “The Shadow Play.”
It takes some time to work out what on earth is going on, largely because of Lou’s most confusing and counterproductive decision, which is...

Disney’s 1997 animated film “Hercules” was a box office underperformer, and the film landed only a single Oscar nomination, for Alan Menken and David Zippel’s upbeat anthem “Go the Distance”.
But now, Disney Theatrical Group has unearthed the fan favorite for the stage — and the first production, playing for a brief run at the Public Theater’s outdoor Delacorte Theatre in Central Park, works better than bigger-budgeted recent efforts like “Frozen.”
For one thing, director Lear deBessonet’s homespun production runs about as long as the original film — just over 90 minutes — despite the addition of five mostly catchy new songs.

Captain America may not have had the most significant role in Avengers: Endgame (it would’ve been hard for anyone to surpass Tony Stark in that department), but he was an instrumental figure throughout the film. And one fan on Reddit has interpreted one of the funnier moments in the movie to mean that Cap accidentally signed on as an agent of Hydra, explaining that this development could tie into the upcoming Loki Disney Plus series.
The scene in question involves Steve Rogers using his knowledge of the future to secure the Tesseract when he goes back in the past. Just as he had been in The Winter Soldier, the hero was stuck in an elevator full of Hydra agents. But instead of getting into an epic, claustrophobic battle, he throws them off guard and out of suspicion by whispering “Hail Hydra.”

Avengers: Endgame has been out for about four months now, easily claiming the crown of highest-grossing movie of all time, and even racking up some serious Oscar talk. Marvel fans have found an enormous easter egg in Avengers: Endgame.
"Avengers: Endgame used time travel to revisit some of the greatest moments and characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and of course, that had to include Robert Redford as the evil Hydra leader Alexander Pierce. We all remember when Pierce shows up in 2012 to claim the Tesseract, but it turns out he might have a second, smaller appearance soon afterwards in the movie — and way further in the past in the McU."

Here's how the fourth season of Veronica Mars failed its protagonist.
"TV remakes and reboots have seen a steady increase over the last few years. It’s gotten to the point that, long before their predecessors have had a chance to collect dust, a reboot is announced.

In their quest to reclaim all the Infinity Stones from across time, Black Widow and Hawkeye travelled to Vormir in Avengers: Endgame in order to find the Soul Stone. While there, though, they discovered the sad truth, something fans already knew from Avengers: Infinity War: to get the Stone and save the universe, one of them had to die. Ultimately, after a self-sacrificial fight between the two heroes, Natasha Romanoff threw herself off the cliff-face and Clint Barton took home the gem.
