Pretty realistic
tjkenyon197621 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are reviewers who have questioned the self control of one of the chatacters in this episode. As someone who has addictive tendencies, I empathise with the character who - through a continued series of episodes involving highly stressful environments and abandonment by their spouse, which given her upbringing is pretty traumatic, being abandoned after being vulnerable enough to let them in to your life; and coping with a stressful job and raising a toddler alone - relapses into their addiction as a coping mechanism and a method of changing how they feel. Addiction isn't a lack of self control.

The episode rounds out a number of storylines in a manner consistent with character, history, and circumstance. Granted, the quality of the writing has dropped over the last few seasons, but in the case of network TV, this still remains better then the average.

Blackout (#14.7)
ComedyFan201025 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Here we see two blackouts. One is the electrical one, which i must say we don't hear too much about. And the other one is Abby's with which she ends up in bed with Dr. Moretti. I really liked this idea. They really went to how her alcoholism could ruin what is important for her in life. And now she is on her way to Luka. Let's see how this will end.

It was really great to hear the names of Mark and Doug! Ah the good old times. Was hilarious though that Sam asked "who?". Oh yes, most o the characters never met the classic ones. I miss Mark!.

And Archie didn't pass his test...But I am sure he will end up making it, he was always the one that struggled a bit.

Mute this episode
sfri-004393 December 2021
Half of it is nothing but screaming, shrieking children, and the sound is INFURIATING and completely UNNECESSARY. Whoever made the decision to include that garbage should be banned from the industry.

Abby's control issues
jenniferdodge11 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I dont understand why she can get through hard times when Luka is around but as soon as he leaves (albeit for 6 months, really!?!) she has one bad experience and goes straight for the bottle. Why can't they give her character a little self control when it comes to trouble when she is alone. And on top of it Dr. Moretti knew she was married and loved her husband. Goes to show you that he has no morals. Instead of taking advantage of a blacked out Abby, he should have made sure she was safe and not of slept with her.

Watch if you want to see Abby falling apart and babies crying
bellemom119 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's bad enough watching this episode streaming at my leisure. I feel bad for those who saw it when it originally aired. Parents finally sitting down to relax after putting their kids to bed and having to listen to the endless sounds of kids crying and screaming. Why would anyone think this was a good idea? I'm not one to skip episodes if they further the story but I highly suggest putting the closed captioning on for this one or you may go out of your mind.

Now for the part that makes little sense to me. When Abby wakes up at Moretti's apartment, she may still be a little drunk but you'd think she'd go home and crash. What would make her take her kid to the airport in the middle of the night to try to get a flight? It seems she would know, even if not completely with it, that she wouldn't be able to just immediately hop on a flight.

Watch but have your finger on that mute button.

This episode really ruined ER for me
drewstewartcolumbia23 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was already tired of Abby and her depressing life so this and once Abby decided to drink herself into a blackout and drunk episode finally pushed me over the edge and I didn't watch again until the final season when Dr. Carter returns to bring things full circle. I was also angry for Luka Kovac, being taken out of the show giving the writers the chance to take the character to even lower points of melodrama

It is so EDGY
polite-4569230 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It is so EDGY that the chaplain is a tattooed, beer drinking, ambiguously jewish, irreverent woman who spends as much time flirting with hospital staff as she does talking to patients.

Sam is pathetic, but she represents the typical irresponsible "single mom."

Abby seems to show her real character when she is not pretending at sobriety. She could not wait for a chance to get drunk and be adulterous.
