What's the only thing worse than a sequel? The only prospect worse than paying £10 at your local cinema to have your favourite movie ruined, forever. The answer has three words. Straight-to-video.
In the '90s, home release sequels became fairly common. You'd greet them with surprise at your local Blockbusters and then want to pull your eyeballs out when you took them home and watched them. They're probably called straight-to-dvd or straight-to-Blu-ray now, but they still exist.
With the announcement that Dolph Lundgren will be starring in Kindergarten Cop 2 (because of course), here are 21 absolute stinking sequels - the vast majority of which weren't even considered good enough for the cinema. How many of them have you watched?
1. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
2. American Pie Presents: Beta House
Maybe it's the Eugene Levy factor - just why did he keep starring in all the sequels?! - but we have weird...

Updating a classic can be treacherous, like building a strip mall on hallowed ground; but director Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow") avoided the dreaded "High School Musical" route for his remake of "Footloose."
Fans will be relieved to hear that two of the original songs made the cut. Some other adjustments include having four very different dance sequences, and demolition derby buses instead of tractors. Brewer also anchored the script by fleshing out a backstory in which five Bomont teens were tragically killed after a night of dancing and loud music.
But the best upgrade to "Footloose" is the casting of professional dancers in the two lead roles. Everybody loves '80s dance movies, but come on, back then it was super-obvious whenever they swapped Kevin Bacon or Jennifer Beals with their wig-wearing dance doubles.

The film, opening this Friday, is already catching some major buzz.

Brad Pitt is already knee-deep in shooting World War Z in Scotland, but new cast members are still joining up. Recent additions include Mireille Enos (The Killing), James Badge Dale (Rubicon, 24), and Julia Levy-Boeken (Road Trip: Beer Pong). Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Elyes Gabel is joining the cast. Gabel most recently came off of Game of Thrones and Psychoville. The only details Hr could offer was that Gabel's character would be named Fassbach.

With productions ramping up to start or already in the midst of shooting, casting announcements are pouring in for several upcoming movies.
With Brad Pitt headlining Paramount's adaptation of World War Z as a U.N. researcher, the Marc Forster-directed production has been adding cast members at a slow trickle, with Mireille Enos (AMC's The Killing) cast in April as Pitt's wife and James Badge Dale (HBO's The Pacific) recently added as a soldier looking to warn humanity about the zombie uprising. Finally, they're getting some company.
Deadline reports that Matthew Fox and Ed Harris are in talks to join the cast in unspecified roles. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Fox will play a part called "Parajumper," which, considering his lack of an actual name, doesn't sound like he makes it for long, but we could be wrong. No details on Harris' role have been revealed yet.

This week's "Green Lantern" trailer has been out in the world long enough to attract a range of reactions for the comics and mainstream crowds alike. Read what you will into James Gunn's assessment of the film, but he seems to think it would be better suited for Syfy.
As for the big theatrical release of the week, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" continues to be a hot topic in the Twitter-Wood feed. Brian Lynch and Andy Milonakis engaged in a deep exchange about the film's earnings, while Ben Stiller's been working on top of a building and Penn Jillette got up close and personal with a jacket that belonged to Harry Houdini. Those posts and more await you down below.

Michael Ian Black refuses to perform at John Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity this week, but he's got a good reason, and if you've been following his Twitter account you know what that is.
Meanwhile, the NBA tweets have been in full swing with the new season officially kicked off. Danny Pudi was all about it yesterday, while Marlon Wayans sounded worried about the Miami Heat. While the NBA is a popular topic in Twitter-Wood, it still may not have been as popular as AMC's "The Walking Dead"; Carlton Cuse and Eric Appel checked out the premiere last night and posted their thoughts. You'll find them after the jump along with Brian Lynch's concerns about last night's "Glee" episode.

Tila Tequila walked into a flurry of rocks and bottles on-stage at the Insane Clown Posse's Gathering of the Juggalos this year. James Gunn and Horatio Sanz both took notice and offered their thoughts via tweets. "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," meanwhile, didn't draw nearly as negative a critical reception over the weekend, but its $10.5 million haul at theaters fell short of expectations. The Awl put together a great piece examining the popularity of Apple products in film. Not editors, effects specialists, composers, or photographers using Apple products, or even celebrities owning iPhones--but the insane frequency with which Apple shows up in movies, without it being official product placement. It's nuts.
Some of the key facts: of the 44 movies that ranked number one at the box office for at least one weekend this year, 18 of them (over 40%) featured an Apple product. Apple products appeared in more number one movies that any other brand, including Pepsi, which had held that somewhat honorable spot for nearly a decade. A list of some of those movies:
That list includes Drag Me to Hell, Orphan, I Love You, Man, Duplicity, Crank 2: High Voltage, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Imagine That, Sorority Row, Answer Man, Post Grad, I Love You Beth Cooper, All About Steve, Hurt Locker, New York,...

Lest you think that product placement is limited to big-budget, big-star movies, be assured that independent filmmakers are not entirely adverse to the idea of exchanging screen time for financial or promotional support. Crooked Arrows, an independent sports film scheduled to begin production this spring, will be exclusively sponsored by Reebok, according to AdAge.com. Reebok will use the film as a springboard to promote its lines of lacrosse equipment and apparel. Owing to the early involvement of Reebok, the filmmakers have been able to "secure [the] bulk of their financing, and also guarantees distribution for a nationwide release of at least 250 theaters in 2011."
The official site for Crooked Arrows makes comparisons to "heroic team sports movies," such as Bad News Bears, Hoosiers, Mighty Ducks, and Miracle. The story follows a mixed-blood Native American who becomes the coach of his reservation's high school lacrosse team, competing against "the better equipped and...

X-men Origins: Wolverine
It’s quite unfortunate that the X-Men films having started strong are now reduced to this shoddy piece of cinema really. Let’s face it; it all started going downhill around number 3 but this attempt at a prequel just doesn’t deliver at all.
The script is all over the place, not knowing if it wants to be taken seriously or just be a no brainer action film. What we get is cheap dialogue being delivered like it’s Shakespeare. Hugh Jack man is charismatic enough but he hasn’t exactly had a good year, what with the complete bollocks that was Australia and now this.
I think Origins biggest failure is treating Wolverine’s relationship with his brother Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) like some sort of Eastenders sub-plot. That’s what it is! The whole film feels like a daytime soap opera. The romantic element of...

If you're going DVD shopping today, there are a few decent choices, however I wouldn't really recommend either I Love You, Man or 17 Again unless you absolutely love Paul Rudd or Zac Efron. Instead, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Oscar-nominated French film The Class, and the indie comedy Gigantic is at least worth a look. I Love You, Man
Bro-mance, schmo-mance, this is a funny movie, centered by a very good performance by Paul Rudd as a befuddled "ladies' man" in search of a best man for his upcoming wedding to Rashida Jones. He starts awkwardly 'man dating' until he stumbles across the happy-go-lucky bachelor Jason Segal, and an unlikely triangle is formed. "A sweet, amusing, and perfectly acceptable comedy all around," wrote Eugene Novikov. Also on Blu-ray. Buy it.

17 Again
Personally, I have zero interest in seeing this movie, but if you're a devoted fan or even curious about the star, help yourself. 17 Again is "a run-of-the-mill family comedy that would be tiresome," Jette Kernion opined, "if not for [Zac] Efron and a few of the other cast members." Also on Blu-ray. Skip it.

The first trailer for Road Trip: Beer Pong, the straight-to-dvd sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2000 comedy, has arrived online as well as the DVD box art. The flick hits shelves on August 11 and stars Preston Jones, Michael Trotter, Daniel Newman, Nestor Aaron Absera, Danny Pudi, Julianna Guill, Julia Levy-Boeken and original Road Trip cast member DJ Qualls. In the film, three college roommates go on the ride of their lives when they drop everything to join a bus full of sexy, scantily clad models to compete in the ultimate sport competition - the National Beer Pong Tournament.

Some people have pointed out that The Hangover could be looked at as a spiritual sequel to one of director Todd Phillips' previously released comedies, Road Trip. I mention this because a sequel to Road Trip is not only in the works, but its been shot, edited, and will be released in August. Of course, I'm talking about one of those crappy DVD spin-off sequels. Road Trip II: Beer Pong is directed by Steve Rash, the same guy who directed Son in Law and recently found a consistent paycheck directing a series of direct-to-dvd sequels fr the American Pie and Bring it On series. Of course, the previously mentioned Todd Phillips has no involvement in this cash grab, and DJ Qualls (The New Guy) seems to be the only original cast member to return. What, Tom Green wasn't available? Watch the terribly unfunny trailer, after the jump. via: Film...

The group, whose members are Mike Fratantuno, Brian Lapin and Terence Yoshiaki, Transcenders, contributed one song to the original 2000 Road Trip soundtrack and is now onboard to score the whole sequel. The film is directed by Steve Rash, whose previous credits include the 1980s teen cult hit Can't Buy Me Love and two recent Bring It On movies. Preston Jones and Julianna Guill star in the film which is scheduled to premiere later this year. Transcenders has contributed songs to films such as Superbad, Knocked Up, and 40 Year Old Virgin.
