This is a very dark show

The first episode had its problems. The second is very dark to the point I'm not sure if it's going to be a mountain of style over substance or something good. The performance of Freeman makes it strangely compelling but this show about vile people seems very empty even though it's extremely well done. I want to hate it and it certainly is deeply flawed but it could turn out great or awful. I'm not sure yet.

An effort.

Carl is pulling the strings, Chris is totally under the thumb, conflicted between doing what is right, and doing his job.

The first half of the episode I thought was really quite good, I enjoyed it, sadly it nosedives half way through, by the end of it the bane Casey was getting on my nerves.

Realism, that was the main issue here, there simply was no degree of believability here, it was total fantasy. Should Chris be working, or would he have been signed off sick, because he is clearly a man on the edge.

That scene in the club, with Carl running last Chris, that was like Wacky Racers, it could have been out of a 70's farce.

I must highlight the wonderful acting by David Bradley, who was fabulous as Davey, what an acting masterclass.

As with episode one, I don't know whether I liked it or not, it's so slow, 5/10.

Warning: Spoilers
By this point I think this show should had been called Dumb & Dumber.

Chris Carson falling for a sop story by Casey leaves his own family at risk from drug dealer Carl Sweeney. Even though he learns that she lied to him. Carson goes all over Liverpool looking for her.

Then again Sweeney does not seem so bright as well. He trusts Carson. He finds Casey but given all she has done, he should had sent a few more goons to accompany her and have her restrained at all times.

Carson was once a DI who got demoted to a constable. The man who did it was fellow police officer Ray Mullen. The man who has a thing for Carson's wife.

Ray is back on the scene and wants to finish Carson's police career. Rookie cop Rachel Hargreaves might be onside. She has been partnered with Carson and did not enjoy the experience.

This might be dark, it is also unintentionally goofy.
