Game Of Thrones alum Tom Wlaschiha has been tapped to co-star in TNT's hourlong mystery drama pilot The Deep Mad Dark, produced by John Wells. In the pilot, written by Megan Martin and directed by Niels Arden Oplev, Wlaschiha will play the mysterious character of Joda. When Joda appears in the field across from her building in Detroit's north end, Dr. Polly Lewis is amused. He clears the field with a machete, and she watches a weird encampment grow as others join him. Is…...

Fortitude, Season 1, “Episode One and Two”
Written by Simon Donald
Directed by Sam Miller
Airs Thursdays at 10 pm (Et) on Pivot
Fortitude flaunts its lofty ambitions before the title even adorns the screen: we’re immediately thrown into a forlorn icy tundra, with splashes of black staining the ubiquitous white landscape. The sun, a burning, bulbous orb, hangs in a haze in the sky. A man, clad in arctic gear, carrying a rifle and a camera outfitted with a telescopic lens, traverses the scene. Before any words are spoken, a shrill scream carves through the wind and the man, obviously no novice, pulls off his mask and draws his rifle. Played by Michael Gambon, he does not look well. Through the scope he sees a polar bear mauling a man. The man’s face is mottled in blood, his leg several feet from the rest of him. Gambon aims, and...

Alex's trek through the film roles of actors who've played the Doctor reaches Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy...
Read the previous part in this series, Doctor Who: the film careers of Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker, here.
In March 1981, as he made his Doctor Who debut, Peter Davison was already one the best known faces on British television. Not only was he the star of both a BBC and an ITV sitcom - Sink Or Swim and Holding The Fort - but as the young and slightly reckless Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great And Small, about the often humorous cases of Yorkshire vet James Herriot and his colleagues, he had cemented his stardom. The part led, indirectly, to his casting as the venerable Time Lord.

For those suffering from post-anniversary blues, here's a little something about Doctor Who's 2013 Christmas Special...
For many of us, the weekend's magnificent festivities have coloured this morning with a distinct sense of post-anniversary blues. Never fear, because we're only weeks away from another brand new Who episode, and a brand new Doctor to boot.
We're expecting a few more details on the Christmas Special to follow shortly (a title and synopsis will give us something to chew over happily for a while), but first up is the news of one of the episode's key guest stars: Orla Brady.
You may know her as the alternate Elizabeth Bishop in Fringe, or as Taryn in Sky One's Sinbad, but she's made countless other screen appearances from Mistresses to The Deep, Wallander and Poirot.
Brady is playing "someone from the Doctor's past, with the plot of...

AMC‘s Walking Dead partnership with Anchor Bay was such a success that the companies are teaming up for more TV-on-dvd distribution. Anchor Bay will handle North American DVD, Blu-ray, and certain digital releases of future original programming from AMC, IFC, and The Sundance Channel starting with The Sundance Channel’s scripted series Rectify, created by Oscar-winning actor Ray McKinnon and produced by Breaking Bad‘s Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, about an ex-con (Aden Young) readjusting to life on the outside. Rectify debuts April 22 on The Sundance Channel and runs for six one-hour episodes. Anchor Bay will also handle home entertainment distribution of AMC Studios and Endemol Studios’ forthcoming Detroit-set cop drama Low Winter Sun, starring Mark Strong. Based on the 2006 British mini-series of the same name, Low Winter Sun is written by Simon Donald (The Deep) and produced by Tiger Aspect Productions. The first season runs for ten one-hour episodes.

Since everyone loves Nazi Zombies as much as I do, I am thrilled to talk about two upcoming Nazi Zombie movies that look more than promising. Exciting is an understatement, even.
Today, Dark Sky Films released the first two official stills from Dutch director Richard Raaphorst’s Nazi Zombie horror film Frankenstein's Army.
This is someone called “Propellerhead”, described officially as "a hulking Nazi automaton that uses its spinning rotors to slice a bloody swath through the film’s terrified, lost Russian battalion."
And this is Doctor Frankenstein, as played by Karel Roden, dissecting someone unwilling to be dissected.
Like any good Nazi Zombie movie, Frankenstein's Army is set at the tail-end of World War II, when Russian soldiers accidentally find a secret Nazi laboratory as they enter Germany's eastern end. Apparently, the journals of Dr. Viktor Frankenstein are serving as the basis for human experimentation to form a -...

The Summer Movie Season comes to a close this weekend and we're now two-thirds of the way through 2012. Today is a good time to look back at the films that have hit cinemas thus far this year and reflect on what you have enjoyed, what you've loved, what met your expectations, what disappointed you, and what left you vomiting on the sidewalk.
Below is my own take on the year so far from the few films that have clicked with me, the ones I had various issues with, the painful experiences I wouldn't do again, and the stuff I've missed or haven't caught thus far which I'm determined to see before the year's out. My general feeling sadly is that it has been a rather piss weak year thus far.
What are your favorites? Please leave your responses in the comments below:

Red Widow: Goran Visnjic to Play Mob Boss
Deadline is reporting that Goran Visnjic has signed on to play a mob boss named Schiller in the upcoming ABC drama Red Widow. It'll be the actor's first series regular role since his role on ER came to an end in 2008, though he's made appearances on the likes of Pan Am, Leverage, and The Deep.
Visnjic's character will likely end up being the big bad, or equivalent of, for Red Widow, which stars Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) as Marta, a woman whose mafioso husband was recently murdered by a rival gangster. Rather than go into hiding or fleeing the country with her children, Marta decides to continue her husband's activity and inserts herself even deeper into the world of organized crime in search of justice. After leaving 'ER,' Visnjic did a guest spot on 'Leverage' and appeared in the BBC minseries 'The Deep.'
'Pan Am' stars Christina Ricci and Mike Vogel and follows the exciting lives of Pan Am flight attendants and pilots. The series takes place during the height of Pan Am's high-flying jet-setting days.

Yesterday it was the royal hunks, today's "The Hobbit" dwarf pictorial (via Stuff.co.nz) features three more dwarves who represent a quite different background - the rougher and life loving working class trio of Bombur (Stephen Hunter), Bofur (James Nesbitt) and Bifur (William Kircher). Here's the description of their characters:
"Born and bred in the West, descendants of coal miners and iron workers, they have joined the Quest for the Lonely Mountain partly to seek their fortune and partly because they were told the beer was free."
Hunter is a familiar face on Australian and New Zealand television with a role in several episodes of the acclaimed "Love My Way" along with guest starring roles on "All Saints," "Spirited," "Mercy Peak" and "Street Legal".
Irish actor Nesbitt is an outright legend of British television with memorable leading role turns in "Jekyll," "Cold Feet," "Ballykissangel," "Playing the Field," "Murphy's Law,...

'Unstoppable'
You can't say you don't know what your gonna get with a Tony Scott movie about a runaway freight train and the attempts by two men—played by Denzel Washington and Chris Pine – to stop it: flashy directing, non-stop action and big explosions. Yet Unstoppable deserves more credit than that synopsis might imply. This is the kind of action movie that Scott was directing back in the '90s before he redefined 'going overboard' with the Transformers series. Back then Scott was relatively restrained and there was a level of intelligence in his filmmaking that his more recent work has lacked (although it's still evident Scott Free productions such as The Good Wife).
Although not quite as good as Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State and Spy Game, Unstoppable at least harks back to those days. The almost always watchable Denzel Washington is a reliable leading man...

ER’s former heartthrob Goran Visnjic has signed up for the David Fincher directed adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
According to Deadline, Visnjic will appear in all three films of the Scott Rudin produced Sony Pictures trilogy, which features Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the lead roles.
Visnjic will seemingly play the part of Dragan Armansky, the CEO of a security firm and employer of tattooed hacker heroine, Lisbeth Salander (Mara).
The novels suggest a certain level of chemistry between the boss and Salander, so the hunky Visnjic’s image could play well in heightening this aspect of the story.

In the books, Armansky is the CEO of the firm Milton Security which employs young hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Armansky's memorable role from the books was reduced to little more than a cameo in the previous Swedish film series.

Manchester’s Grimm Up North Festival 2010 rolls out for its second year and runs from Thursday 28th October to 31st October. This year’s line-up has been announced today at a press launch at Odder Bar (which I once got thrown out of as a drunken student back in the day when it was Odd Bar).
There’s really something for everybody, including the absolutely brilliant giallo homage Amer (my favourite film of the year) and the Josie Ho slasher flick Dream Home – which really is a ‘cutting’ satire!
Also playing is cannibal flick We Are What We Are, a movie that brings a whole new meaning to ‘going for a Mexican’ and a new digital print of Dario Argento’s masterpiece Profondo Rosso (Deep Red).
So if you want to wing your way up to the brilliant city of Manchester for four days of horror cinema deluxe, why not?...

London -- BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson on Wednesday announced a slew of big-name drama commissions but said the broadcaster would have to ax several long-running series to free up slots for a new generation of creative and adventurous fare.
Though he didn't give immediate details of which long-running shows could face cancellation, Stephenson said the pubcaster was refocusing its drama output to reflect "Britain's most creative and exciting author-driven drama," rather than purely commercial fare that would bring in audiences.
"(The BBC) is the place where new and established writers can realize their most imaginative work," he said.
"Across our four channels, there are bold, modern new series and serials alongside unique and challenging single pieces," said Stephenson, highlighting forthcoming new pieces including a new BBC4 biopic "Lennon Naked" which stars Christopher Eccleston as the former Beatle and a new BBC1 police drama "Luther," starring Idris Elba ("The Wire...
