Very clever and surprising.

Nancy Martin, a resident at a Care home is killed during a less than friendly game of bingo. Neville's initial suspect Barbara Mitchell, Nancy's sparring partner at the home. Selwyn is discharged from hospital, but refuses to rest.

I can't say I have any real issues with this story, maybe just one, and it's a gripe I've had with this show since day one. Why bring in someone as brilliant as Hayley Mills, and given them such limited time. Gripe over, now the episode itself...

I rather enjoyed it, Murder at the bingo, sounds more like a case for Shakespeare and Hathaway, I could just about imagine those two on the case, but it worked, a wonderfully intriguing case, some lovely touches of humour, and of course, a really nice cast. There are some real touches of cleverness here.

Now I'll be honest, I adore Hayley Mills, but in recent years, I've been more of a fan of Ellie Haddington, ever since her role as Hilda in Foyle's War, and once again, she's excellent, she really stood out.

Xmasdaybaby1966 I was keen to read your words also, think we have some more commonality in this second episode.

8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
This was an interesting case. It had many twists but in the end it came together and made sense (for the most part). I did not understand how the fake man drowned if he didn't exist and if he in fact was a woman. I must have missed something.

I enjoyed the Sellwyn story line. It was endearing. It would be nice if his daughter joined the cast. She could keep him in check and show a softer side of the grumpy old man..haha

I'm not sure if the intention is to eventually have Marlon and his coworker become an item but I hope that does not happen. They make a good brother and sister-type relationship in my opinion.

As usual this series is already going too fast. But I am still enjoying it even though I will always miss Humphrey.

Episode 2

Warning: Spoilers
No way to treat an Oscar winner. Hayley Mills only lasts two minutes.

She plays Nancy Martin a resident in a care home who is stabbed by a knitting needle while playing bingo.

Nancy was a philanthropist who gave away much of her fortune. She has an adopted daughter. A cousin was visiting her from London. She had made an enemy of Barbara, another resident who regarded her as false.

DI Neville Parker discovers that Barbara's hunch was correct. Nancy Martin never existed. She was the wife of a gangster who fled to Saint Marie. She had also fled with the stolen loot and had to lay low for years as the other gangsters were still looking for her.

This was an enjoyable mystery with plenty going on and lots of red herrings. An accountant who bought the money to the island and then died in a storm. So did his rescuer. A corrupt cop.

Then there was the grouchy Commander Patterson not yet recovered from his injuries.

Full house - but not Neville's
xmasdaybaby196612 February 2024
This was so much better than last week's 100th instalment but surely a bingo story should have been episode 90!

Unlike last week, there were actually a few funny lines in this one and a couple of quality guest actresses were a big help with the proceedings.

The legendary Hayley Mills showed her class.

I do wonder if this was shown out of sequence though as our friendly bar owner returns to the island but there was no mention of her daughter whom appeared last week never mind the addition to the family.

Although there was a long shot of Neville's house, we didn't see inside it so again we had glimpse of our neighbourly lizard.

Look forward to seeing what sleepin_dragon has to say.

Special guest star Hayley Mills
safenoe1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I think the greatest injustice in this episode was that screen legend Hayley Mills did not get special guest star credit for the second episode of season 13. I can't believe it, because Hayley Mills is from legendary Mills family from the UK, and really, she should have been respected with a special guest star credit. If Anthony "Silence of the Lambs" Hopkins was in an episode of Death in Paradise, then no doubt he would have got a special guest star credit (and rightly so). Anyway, I give this episode a 9 out of 10 for the first two-thirds, but the mind-twisting convoluted join the dots to explain things kind of was trying to wrap things up way too neatly.

Absolute disappointment

Such a simple murder that was complicated just to drag out the full episode time. I love a mystery and have always loved this show, but nothing worse than knowing the killer about 5 seconds after it occurred and the why about 5mins later. Felt really lazy and the plot wasn't helped by a lacklustre performance. The team is dull and gets worst with every episode, like nails on a blackboard ant times. Only saving grace is sellwyn and Catherine who continue to hold it together and be fantastic. I also can't believe that they managed to land Hayley Mills for the episode and completely wasted her class and skill.
