Review for Nightwing the Series
bobsheruncle11 July 2015
Well this will be my first review, ever. And so I thought I would put a good word in for this mini-series. A lot of times I'm reading reviews from people that are just bashing the hell out of a good series, for little or no 'good' reason. If you see a series that is fan made, don't expect a Star Wars type production. Take it for what it is supposed to be. Entertainment. I don't judge on the 'quality' of the sets or costumes, as they are based on a comic book world, so they can make them look any way they want. I saw reference to someone 'liking it better than Supergirl'. Well that in itself is a huge compliment to the cast, crew, writers, directors and everyone involved. Supergirl is a Berlanti Productions film, released by Warner Bros. Television. So they would have had a much higher budget, which relates to better sets, locations, cameras, CGI and actors/actresses. Just to name a few things. I personally liked Supergirl better, but for the right reasons. And I wouldn't dare to compare the two.

I think the acting was fine. The fight scenes, with the exception of one, were really good. And for the budget they had, the CGI is really awesome. I would definitely like to see more of this. Kudos to all that worked towards or financed this little gem!

And BTW, I have been a comic book reader and movie goer for 51 years. I bought my first comic when I was 9, in 1964.

My name's Bob, and I support this review. whew....

DC Universe fan? Check this out!

I can't say enough positive things about this series, from the action, acting, music, and considering how low budget it is, its amazing to think about how excellent this series is. Tell every DC Universe fan you know to watch this series, it deserve and need more attention, the episodes are from 5-10 minutes long, and its only 5 episodes, with the final coming out next week, with so short time it have really gotten into me. The main villain in the series is Deathstroke, some people says he is nothing compared to Manu Bennett's version of Deathstroke in Arrow, but who is? This is a Deathstroke focus series not Slade Wilson.

Overall Nightwing is a must watch for all of you reading this, and i really hope they plan to make more seasons of it!

Fantastic

This mini-series is absolutely amazing. It's great for Batman fans new and old. It's nice to see a fresh take on the Batman universe. The show revolves around Nightwing, the 1st Robin who had a falling out with Batman. Nightwing is an all time favorite who has had very little exposure until now. The plot is the typical Hero's Journey but it works. The acting is 50/50 but lets face it, no one watches this for Oscar worthy performances. People watch this for the action and it really stands out. The fight choreography seems fluent and realistic. Another thing that stands out is the editing. The show has great editing and effects for a web series. Backers from Kickstarter got their money's worth with this one. The show seems like it would fit within the CW hero universe that includes Green Arrow (or just Arrow) and the Flash. Danny Sheperd does a great job playing Dick Grayson. He has that dark side like The Dark Knight but he also has a bit of humor which differentiates the two quite a bit. Speaking of The Dark Knight, the score is very reminiscent of that film. It is also different in its own way. Overall, it's a solid series that is very entertaining and I can't wait for more to come.

A series worth watching over an over again

Nightwing: The Series has a lot of heart, and ultimately leaves the viewer hooked for the next episode in the series. All acting is true to the comic book counterparts, and the costumes are awe-inspiring for any fan. The narrative is great; holding a consistent story following Grayson's life as a masked crime fighter, and the pursuit of the mysterious Deathstroke. With this, the series' cinematography and stunt coordination throughout each episode is flawless, with both practical and digital effects used.

Overall, Nightwing: The Series is an excellent online series that leaves the community wanting more from the team at Ismahawk, and eagerly awaiting news on a second series.

Starts nicely, but does not stay that way

Warning: Spoilers
"Nightwing: The Series" is a five-part mini-series from 2014. It is an American English-language production by Danny Shepherd and Jeremy Le. Shepherd also plays the main character in here, namely the superhero Nightwing, formerly Batman's loyal aide Robin. Nightwing goes rogue when the Joker (apparently) kills Robin's boyfriend Barbara Gordon. But strangely enough, Nightwing's Anger is not directed against the Superclown, but instead against the super-villain Deathstroke. Ant it takes two attempts to beat him. The episodes run between 7-8 minutes (the first two) and 15 minutes (the last one), so the entire thing is about 50 minutes long, but this includes a whole lot of credits too, which means you can easily watch it in one go. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, so it may be possible the story continues at some point. Maybe Batman will also reappear as we see him as a supporting character occasionally in his human form here. I enjoyed episodes one and two, but then the film gets worse in quality and also stays like that until the end, which makes it a watch for me that was not very memorable and also not very realistic. I also think creator Shepherd should have cast somebody else for the title character as he never carried the superhero character convincingly.

For a fan series, pretty unbelievable!
elliemorrison3 January 2018
I am pretty shocked. I thought this would be the world's worst fan made series ever, but I was surprised. It actually is pretty incredible. Super low budget, but acting is pretty good for a fan series and also the action, and also the script and soundtrack were surprisingly talented. Not only that but, the effects were very sophisticated for a fan series, and what not. If you are bored out of your mind, and are a DC fan you might want to check this out. Us fans might learn a thing or to on how to create a proper fan made series from this one.

Good storyline but horrible acting

Warning: Spoilers
The story line is good and the Nightwing Suit is Incredible, but the acting is horrible and cringey. The only good actor is Noel Sheflin who plays Jason Todd and he's barely in it. Also this film doesn't give you time to really care for the characters. Barbara Gordon has two seconds of screen time before she gets shot and I didn't care for the character so I didn't care she got shot. It's a good film but the acting sucks.

Cinematic ,just a cinematic experience!!
tankace15 July 2016
Nightwing is a online series which was made by fans and the creators really knew well the characters ,the comic book story lines and what surprised me was the quality of the action ,the costumes and the dept of the characters. The crazy thing is that this mini-series with the shoe-string budget and all five episodes last just short of forty five minutes manage to have cinematic quality like the today superhero television series of Daredevil, Flash, Arrow and Jessica Jones!

To the story line of the episodes, we follow Dick Grayson, the original Robin as he becomes Nightwing and makes a name of his own apart from the Dark Knight! His antagonist is Deathstroke and I will tell (write technically) it, he is much better than that from the Arrow, for here the costume is also exactly like that from the comics and animated series and we him in action, boy he is a bad ass through and through ,even Punisher would had a hard time putting him down. In the story we see elements from some of the most famous story lines of the Dark Knight mythology, like A Death in the Family, The Killing Joke (fingers crossed for the film at the end of the month) and even Red Hood. Also the costume of Dick is like it left from the comics in to the screen and it was amazing , for real if the series was put in the television map it would be the Daredevil of DC! I am serious is that good!

As I said the series is about 45 minutes long ,with a small budget ,but with so little it manages to be the film about Nightwing everyone ,myself included ,want to see. For real since the cancer that is Batman and Robin we haven't seen Mr. Gryason in the big screen ,someone in the studio I wish to see that series and make this dream a reality for it is a shame to have redeemed the Dark Kinght from that abomination and not the rest of the Bat Family. Nightwing also ,I am certain for that, would be a nice change from the type of Batman we have seen up to now. He is far more funny, quoting and a bit less serious than Batman, logical he is younger than him and wasn't trained by ninjas, so someone can say that if Batman is the Captain America of the Family then Nightwing is Spiderman. And with such acrobatic skills why not?

Finally as the Cape Crusader say to him "You are a detective and my son you can find a solution" ,which is true for Grayson is trained from the best and when the time comes the legacy must be continued and he has the skills, experience and balls to do it!! If you are a fan of the Batman Family then you watch it now!!!!

Incredible
joaogabrielcoutinhor13 January 2022
Well, I just watched the mini-series, and I was impressed, the performances and the authors are very good, and they would be great actors in Hollywood, in terms of special effects, it's the web-series with the best special effects, they're great, and only in a few moments do you think it's a product of the "trash" style, I also have to point out the costumes of the characters, such as Nightwing and Deathstroke, are excellent and very realistic, similar to the comics, the dialogues too, especially those between Batman and Nightwing.

The only thing that I found a little bad was the ending, despite being good, it gives a feeling of hook and curiosity of a sequel.

Bad acting
sathervbc27 May 2015
Good attempt. Horrible acting and fight scenes are too drawn out. The actors look a bit soft. They all look like they should be going out to the club. I was also not impressed with Robin's original outfit. It looked a bit plastic, bubble gum and made from the arts and crafts store. Could have been made a little more dark. I respect the fact that this series is made with little funding. I think what made it bad for me again was the over bad acting. The dramatic scenes are strange and unbelievable. I do understand this was a fun project for them and was a great idea. Not bad attempt though for a fan made thing. I did like it way more than the new super girl and a lot More than other fan films out there.
