The Nitwitting is something only Nitwits would enjoy.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 12 of Spongebob has already been off to a pretty weak start, and this episode just dropped the ball for me.

In my humble opinion, I really did not like the Nitwitting. The episode revolves around Patrick inducting Spongebob into joining a club of nitwits he is a part of. The concept of this episode is pretty dull already, and set my expectations low. For terms of the episode's overall quality, it was very lacking, with various amounts of jumps from one plot point to another, it was just all over the place, not to mention the shoe-horning of Sandy into the plot at the very end of the episode, that was completely unnecessary. While this episode did have some nice touches to it, like the cameos of some characters and the detail work put into the backgrounds, I still think this episode is a mess.

I wouldn't call this episode as bad as episodes like Bunny Hunt or Ink Lemonade, its still a really bad episode overall, and a very lackluster addition to the series' most recent season. I suggest skipping this episode if you can.

DISGUSTING
derpicassodp26 February 2019
This is not the Spongebob we love anymore. No clever satire, no well written humor, just toilet humor for little children. It's disgusting as well and the mimics are overdramatized.

Can you please orientate on the humor and arstyle of season 1-5 or 10-11? Instead of using such an garish neon-Artstile use enjoyable colors. Try to entertain all age groops, even my parents laugh at 2001 Spongebob's jokes, my little sister too.

If you don't stop doing episodes with literally NO HUMOR, I'll boycott watching the new episodes.

Very Disgusting and Stupid

Warning: Spoilers
Both of these episodes have very disgusting imagery that is not funny in the slightest. Furthermore, the plots are just stupid and have no real purpose. In The Niwitting, the characters just destroy the town for no reason and receive no consequences at all while SpongeBob becomes dumb because he takes his brain out. It's a stupid plot that goes nowhere and does not have very many funny jokes. The Ballad of Filthy Muck also has a plot that has no purpose as SpongeBob just thinks a sentient pile of garbage is Patrick, when it's later revealed that it's not. This episode is not very funny and has very little comedy.

Sad.....

Warning: Spoilers
Just another pair of episodes that show the decay of a once great show. The Nitwitting's title pretty much tells you everything. From idiotic behavior to gross out "humor" this episode is just your typical bad modern Spongebob episode. As for "The Ballad of Filthy Muck" I found this episode hard to watch because of how hair brained everyone acts. If Patrick was actually unrecognizable, this episode maybe could've worked, unfortunately you can tell it's him covered in trash, so it just makes the denizens seem more idiotic than usual. Similar to "The Simpsons" you can tell Spongebob is a show that went for too long.

Way to ruin my childhood
lvogel33530 July 2022
Spongebob and Patrick have always been stupid, but it used to be in this naïve, childish way, that made them sympathetic and relatable. The episodes used to have a clear plot, well-constructed gags, and provided some sort of moral of the story in the end. I can watch old Spongebob episodes as an adult and still enjoy their humour

Now the only purpose seems to be to teach children to be as stupid, disgusting, dirty and jittery as possible, no innocent naïvity anymore, just plain stupidity and numbness. The gags are so cringry that even 15 years ago I would've felt too mature for that sort of history, and the songs are terribly produced.

Yeah. It's awful.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 12 of SpongeBob is one of my favorite seasons but it has some failures and The Nitwitting is a good example of a failure. The plot was just bland and forgettable. It's when Patrick shows SpongeBob a club of dummies. It's really disturbing, dumb, uncomfortable, very gross, and not funny at all and don't even get me started on the spit jar scene. When the people remove their brains then they could join the club and after watching this, I feel like MY brain has been removed. And the part when The Ice Cream King from Patrick's Coupon won't let SpongeBob join the club anymore because he says that maybe people leave trash in trash cans because their pockets were full was just plain wrong. I have to admit that the part when SpongeBob was trying to say "I'm ready" was a little funny but it didn't effect the episode's quality in any way at all. It's not as bad as other Trashy episodes like Out of the Picture and Ink Lemonade, but it's still pretty bad.

Overall: This episode gets a 3/10 The ballad of filthy muck gets a 6/10.

A big fat meh!
ngoss-590132 March 2021
The Nitwitting was pretty bad because it's not funny, it's really gross, and there's no real plot. I'd give this one a big fat skip! The Ballad of Filthy Muck on the other hand is pretty good, well... It's weird, but in a good way. Anyways, I wouldn't recomend the nitwitting, but I would suggest checking out the ballad of filthy muck.

Why the low ratings?
gvasquez-5609020 January 2019
These episodes were amazing and greatly written. Why does it have a low rating? They are making it sound like the new episodes are terrible. THEY ARE NOT. The new episodes that have low ratings are probably people that just hate new spongebob and never actually watched it.
