Jojo Rabbit (2019)
I laughed and cried with movie. It's one of the best movies I have seen ever!
The movie is definitely up there, at the all time top.
It describes WW2 from the angle of a child and this is something, to my knowledge, that has never attempted before. Taika Waititi, explores the concept from a unique prospective in a very original way. What I love most about this movie, is that it unravels boldly the idea of, how idiotic the entire concept of racism is and how the mass is being manipulated by individuals in doing things that are completely inhuman. It is sad that it still happens today.
I believe it is first movie that has ever been nominated for best Comedy and Drama at the same time. At least Google does not return any result for the key: "movies that have been nominated for both best drama and comedy".
In my opinion, it should win at least 10 Oscars, including:
Best actor
Best actress
Best supporting actor
Best director
Best picture
Best supporting actress
Best writing adapted screenplay
Best costume design
Best production design
Best film editing
Best drama
Best comedy
Both Sam Rockwell and Taika Waititi deserve the Oscar for Best supporting actor.
Taika Waititi should get the Oscar for Best writing adapted screenplay and Best director, not to mention that the movie deserves the Oscar for best movie, of course.
Roman Griffin Davis, totally deserves the Oscar for Best actor. His acting is of the scale! Something that you don't see often at this young age.
I don't know if Scarlett Johansson deserves the Oscar for Best supporting actress, however her performance was up there and I believe that if she had a longer role, she would totally deserve it. I am waiting for the special edition Bluray with the extended scenes, to see more of her.
Archie Yates was fantastic and he and Sam Rockwell got the best lines in movie. If his role was longer he would probably be nominated for Best supporting actor too. However, this is what happens when you compress the movie for the theater. I am waiting for the special edition Bluray with the extended scenes, to see more of him.
Bottom line: The movie is exceptional. Does it deserve to be watched? OMG: Absolutely! I have seen it over 10 times so far and I can't stop watching it. It is a shiny ray of hope in the dystopian world we still live in. Don't miss it! :)
Back to the Future: The Game (2010)
On a scale of 1 to 10? 35!!!
I am going to borrow, one of Michael J. Fox's lines from his TV Show Family Ties. You can see all the scene here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZZm4XhzMFU "On a scale of 1 to 10? 35!!!" It's one of these rare cases that the top IMDb rating cannot really measure up to the value of this creation. And I am not talking just about episode 5, I am talking about all of them. Where do I start? Story? Not only it's thrilling, adventurous and unpredictable. It fills all the blanks the movies left. And I mean all of them, in all time periods! Direction? It's a pity this did not came as a full movie or movies. I mean, I know it would be impossible due to the age and condition of Michael, but come on! They could release the whole thing as it is, as a full motion animated movie. Cast performance? It really stands up to the movies, if not better. Comedy, Action, Mystery, Drama? It has it all! I almost cried when I found out who Trixie was. Highly recommended to everyone, not just BTTF fans!
The Three Musketeers (2011)
I'm going to give a 5 because of the great cast, although the spaceships where missing... :D
Although I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi, I believe that the movie just tries too much! Since I've seen every previous movie based on The Three Marketeers novel and I may say that I'm a big fan of the book and the previous movies, especially the last one, The Three Musketeers (1993), I can say that the writers took a perfect and tested story, a fine cast, a superb visual effects department and tried to give a different perspective to the movie. Their addition of the air fights and the "air ships", I think it's too much for a movie categorized to Action | Adventure | Romance. Don't get me wrong. I could accept the whole concept in case the movie was not portraying the actual historical era, but was placed in an alternative universe, like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) for example. The only things that saves the moment, making the movie actually worth seeing are the performances of the fine cast and the great work of the visual effects department. Milla Jovovich is absolutely stunning as expected, Orlando Bloom is a very convincing Duke of Buckingham, Logan Lerman is a worthy D'Artagnan both in dialogs and action scenes, while the performances of the rest of the cast are truly exceptional. What is also missing a lot is the unification and solidarity of the Musketeers core. In the entire movie we never see the rest of them fight and do their part and even worse the only time we hear "One for all and all for one" is at the very end. Even worse the movie lucks a powerful song like the previous movie had. I guess the producers could afford spending $75,000,000 to unnecessary air fight visual effects, but could not spend a few of them in order to have a truly powerful song like "All for love" Performed by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting in the previous movie. All in all, if you really want to see a great Musketeers movie just see the previous one, for it really succeeds where this one fails with less than half the budget of this one.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
I gave a nine out of ten, for the sole purpose that it's a great fantasy movie.
I gave a nine out of ten, for the sole purpose that it's a great fantasy movie.
IMDb should add the Fantasy genre to the movie and should actually put it first. Fantasy | Action | Drama | War It should also add Comedy, as it has a lot of scenes that they are actually very fun to watch and they really made me laugh out loud. Like the Italian scene in the movie theater. Quentin Tarantino really gave his best again and I can say that it's a great action movie to watch with a lot of dramatic and comic scenes that they make it very exciting. The cast is absolutely magnificent and the way the movie is actually presented (multilingual), is outstanding. A very original work! A real masterpiece! A must to see! Great job Quentin, looking forward to your next work!
Star Trek (2009)
Nice Action Movie, not Star Trek though!
As an old Trekker I have to point out that the movie lacks the connection with the Star Trek Universe that Gene set, totally! I don't know where to begin. From the script, the directing, the photography? It's just not Star Trek. One of the worst modifications is the change of the transporter (beam me up) effect to an extremely futuristic one that does not reflect the era of the story. Kirk is portrayed as a reckless rascal that doesn't really care about nothing and nobody but himself does not obey any rules or regulations and is arrogant to his mates and superiors. If you also add the total lack of the scientific support, you will easily come to understand that it is not Trek. For all us Trekkers, is a total disappointment. For the casual spectator, is just an other action movie. For sure no Star Trek however!
Immortally Yours (2009)
Disaster! A total waste of time! Steer clear!
One of the worst movies I've ever seen! It's really a paradox the high ratings it got. In order to verify it, I watched it twice! :-( I still can't get what all those critics found in this movie! First of all it's about a vampire, that in the entire movie we don't see him drink blood not even once! Now what kind of a vampire is that??? The dialogs are just awful. It's like they had absolutely no work on them. The visual effects are childish, to say the least. Terrible action scenes, like the one with the vampire slayer that killed at least four vampires before and some in groups and eventually just stands still in a long sequence just waiting to be killed my one single vampire without bringing the slightest resistance and even worse he's got help, he's not alone like in the previous sequences that he was one against four vampires. And don't get me started about the story line. I just couldn't find one plus in this movie. It's a real shame that there are no negative stars to vote for it. It can not even be categorized as a beta movie. I'd say it's a gamma movie. Don't waste your time. Do something better with it.
