I have seen few films that are as fun, enjoyable, and heartwarming as Sing Street. I would put it right up there with Almost Famous as one of the period music films ever. The music, both the original songs and the soundtrack, is great. It is funny and romantic and poignant and insightful. The film is not concerned with realism, which I think is a good thing. It allows the film to express its message stronger and gives its almost a fantasy quality. It feels like, at times, the film takes place in the the main characters dreams. I would challenge anyone not to love this film, and if you don't, you may not have a soul. Just and beautiful, beautiful film.
5. Midnight Special (2016)

Director: Jeff Nichols | Stars: Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver
Votes: 84,060 | Gross: $3.71M
This film is why we go to the movies. The energy and excitement this film has combined with its patience and sense of pace give this film an almost indescribable feel. The mystery and wonder harken back to Close Encounters or even (dare I say) 2001. A lot of people are challenging the conclusion of this film, and though I don't think it is perfect, I had a very positive reaction and enjoyed it tremendously. The craftsmanship of the film is next level and unrivaled. I especially loved the scenes at the gas station and the moment when they are forced back into slow moving traffic where the suspense is just ratcheted up to another level. I really loved this film. Jeff Nichols continues to show why he is one of today's greatest film makers.
