1. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
PG-13 | 103 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery
A young woman is held in an underground bunker by a man who insists that a hostile event has left the surface of the Earth uninhabitable.
Director: Dan Trachtenberg | Stars: John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr., Douglas M. Griffin
Votes: 354,950 | Gross: $72.08M
It's probably doesn't have a lot of rewatch value, but sometimes that's okay. As it is, the film does an incredible job of remaining taut and suspenseful throughout its runtime and serves as a clever and completely different sequel to the original Cloverfield.
2. Don't Breathe (2016)

Hoping to walk away with a massive fortune, a trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man who isn't as helpless as he seems.

A wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.
Director: Tim Miller | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein
Votes: 1,126,302 | Gross: $363.07M
A movie that will probably prove to be the next step in the evolution of comic book movies, Deadpool brings R-Rated, raunchy comedy to superhero films which lifts up an otherwise forgettable script.
4. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
PG-13 | 147 min | Action, Sci-Fi
Political involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.
Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan
Votes: 850,502 | Gross: $408.08M
Civil War has innumerable things going for it - introduction of several great new characters, a plotline that seems as if it's what Avengers 2 should've been, and continues several storylines set up in acclaimed Cap sequel The Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, it's ultimately hampered by an ending where nearly every storyline is left with a definite "To Be Continued" placard.
5. Finding Dory (2016)

Friendly but forgetful blue tang Dory begins a search for her long-lost parents and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.
Directors: Andrew Stanton, Angus MacLane | Stars: Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O'Neill, Kaitlin Olson

Director: Todd Phillips | Stars: Jonah Hill, Miles Teller, Steve Lantz, Gregg Weiner
Votes: 254,188 | Gross: $43.03M
7. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
PG-13 | 151 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Batman is manipulated by Lex Luthor to fear Superman. Superman´s existence is meanwhile dividing the world and he is framed for murder during an international crisis. The heroes clash and force the neutral Wonder Woman to reemerge.
Director: Zack Snyder | Stars: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg
Votes: 752,643 | Gross: $330.36M
While flawed in some very key areas - including a shockingly poor interpretation of one of its titular characters, as well as a campy, obnoxious version of Lex Luthor - Zack Snyder's attempted superhero epic reaches higher than most superhero movies have in years. Otherwise executed marvelously in nearly every way - acting, art design, cinematography, score, fight choreography and more - the successes of the film lift it above the flaws of its script to place it as one of my favorite films of the year so far.
8. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
PG-13 | 144 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
In the 1980s the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive through bringing destruction to the world.
Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult
Votes: 461,312 | Gross: $155.44M
Despite several very good movies, the X-Men series has never really felt like the true, comic book interpretations of its star characters. Apocalypse begins to right that wrong; meshing some of the best of First Class with the promise of the 1990s heyday of X-Men. Its cliched and uninteresting villain ultimately holds the movie back from greatness.
9. Zootopia (2016)
PG | 108 min | Animation, Action, Adventure
In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
Directors: Byron Howard, Rich Moore, Jared Bush | Stars: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate
Votes: 546,661 | Gross: $341.27M
It's a solid disney movie, checking all of the boxes you'd expect for a quality children's film. But it lacks a certain uniqueness and tries a bit too hard to be culturally current.
10. Justice League vs. Teen Titans (2016 Video)
PG-13 | 78 min | Animation, Action, Adventure
Robin is sent to work with the Teen Titans after his volatile behavior botches a Justice League mission. The Titans must then face Trigon after he possesses the League and threatens to conquer the world.
Director: Sam Liu | Stars: Rosario Dawson, Christopher Gorham, Shemar Moore, Jerry O'Connell
Votes: 23,760
While still featuring several of the unfortunate tropes that have plagued DC Animated Movies in recent years, JLvTT offers just enough cleverness and heart to make it one of the better in Superhero direct-to-video movies.
11. The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
PG | 86 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy
The quiet life of a terrier named Max is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes.

Votes: 217,481 | Gross: $368.38M
12. Star Trek Beyond (2016)

The crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy, who puts them, and everything the Federation stands for, to the test.
Director: Justin Lin | Stars: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana
Votes: 258,574 | Gross: $158.85M
A noticeable improvement over its predecessor, Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond puts the Star Trek franchises squarely in the category of marvelous well-executed blockbusters. However, while it works for the film, there'll always be a part of me that wishes the Star Trek series could be a little more Gene Roddenberry philosophy, and a little less Mission: Impossible style simplistic action movie.
13. Batman: The Killing Joke (2016)
R | 76 min | Animation, Action, Crime
As Batman hunts for the escaped Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime attacks the Gordon family to prove a diabolical point mirroring his own fall into madness.
Director: Sam Liu | Stars: Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Tara Strong, Ray Wise
Votes: 61,559 | Gross: $3.78M
The long awaited animated adaptation of the classic Batman story finds itself hampered by an at best completely unnecessary and often downright gratuitous original prologue. Press stop after the first 30 minutes, and you're looking at a very bad film. Skip the first 30 minutes, and it's everything you hope it would be.
14. Batman: Bad Blood (2016 Video)
PG-13 | 72 min | Animation, Action, Adventure
Bruce Wayne is missing. Alfred covers for him while Nightwing and Robin patrol Gotham City in his stead. And a new player, Batwoman, investigates Batman's disappearance.
Director: Jay Oliva | Stars: Jason O'Mara, Yvonne Strahovski, Stuart Allan, Sean Maher
Votes: 26,191
Probably the greatest sin these "New52" style DC animated movies commit is being wholly mediocre. There's nothing offensively bad about Bad Blood, but it squanders great characters and storylines in favor of needless but seemingly obligatory action sequences.
15. Suicide Squad (2016)
PG-13 | 123 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
A secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.
Director: David Ayer | Stars: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis
Votes: 722,515 | Gross: $325.10M
As of this writing, the worst film I've seen of 2016. While it features of bevy of likable characters and genuinely clever concept, the film seems to have been torn to shreds in the editing room, leaving a rudderless, disjointed film that - while fun at times - can be in no way considered good.
