Votes: 264,427 | Gross: $64.58M
I really enjoyed this film, would like to have seen more of what gave them the powers but I'm sure that'll be in the sequel! Need to watch again for update.
2. District 9 (2009)

Director: Neill Blomkamp | Stars: Sharlto Copley, David James, Jason Cope, Vanessa Haywood
Votes: 716,709 | Gross: $115.65M
Different location, creatures, ideology, this film had it in my opinion. From anti-hero to hero? It's nice to see someone else make a film where you actually get involved opposed to watch cause it's a blockbuster with names.
3. The Bay (II) (2012)

Chaos breaks out in a small Maryland town after an ecological disaster occurs.
Director: Barry Levinson | Stars: Will Rogers, Kristen Connolly, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal
Votes: 29,608 | Gross: $0.03M
No big explosions, no people running around hopelessly being stupid, no big stunts etc which would have spoiled this film anyway. Good storyline explaining everything from all departments. Some good shocks but done in a believable way. Yeh, good film. Holy chicken *beep* though!!!
4. Battleship (2012)

Director: Peter Berg | Stars: Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Liam Neeson, Rihanna
Votes: 257,326 | Gross: $65.42M
I know this wasn't very good but I went into it with that knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had Aliens and the sea, 2 of my favourite things so I had a laugh. Used to be a Rhianna hater but thought she did well in this film.
5. Battle Los Angeles (2011)

Director: Jonathan Liebesman | Stars: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Ramón Rodríguez
Votes: 185,160 | Gross: $83.55M
Let the mind go free and don't read into these films, take them for what they are. A good watch. Nice to see that Michelle Rodriguez has a different facial expression and although still a tough role a different kind of character.

Director: Nicholas Meyer | Stars: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan
Votes: 80,893 | Gross: $74.89M
Good plot followed with a decent storyline. Iman's character was awesome and nice surprise of her alien status. Nice touch with the signature credits and great Slater cameo. This has always been my favourite.
7. Lucy (I) (2014)
R | 89 min | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A woman, accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.
Director: Luc Besson | Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Amr Waked
Votes: 534,173 | Gross: $126.66M
A Besson joint with Johansson playing the turning of her character so well, really good performance. The crossover of Japanese, French and American was refreshing. The reactions of the doctors at the time when they thought they were going to get killed was well played, they looked really scared and shocked. Ok, so it was a bit OTT when she completely turned but still a highly enjoyable action film to watch encompassing a worthy scientific view.
8. Pacific Rim (2013)
PG-13 | 131 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.
Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day
Votes: 530,728 | Gross: $101.80M
Obvious beginning setting up the plot which is getting boring and should be different by now especially as it was such a blockbuster. The odd couple personalities was hard to capture but they got away with it. One thing I did notice is they've been fighting these beasts for so long so how did they have large areas still built up beautifully. I did like the concept of digital and analogue and the choreography was ok but they did still remind me of Autobots. All in all it was watch-able but not that exciting.
9. Gravity (2013)
PG-13 | 91 min | Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Dr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.
Director: Alfonso Cuarón | Stars: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris, Orto Ignatiussen
Votes: 863,112 | Gross: $274.09M
The accident should have been longer but it was incredibly shot. Then it went morbid. I know a bit about astronaut training so can say that Bullock's character would have in no way been allowed to go to space, she would have been a great liability. Shot, yes it was good but apart from that I lost interest!
10. Dark Skies (2013)
PG-13 | 97 min | Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
As the Barrett family's peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them, one which may have arrived from beyond the stars.
Director: Scott Stewart | Stars: Keri Russell, Jake Brennan, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo
Votes: 79,876 | Gross: $17.41M
Good acting, very atmospheric music and the things were actually very creepy especially with the magic act. It wasn't scary but really didn't need to be as the story was better than most but there were some shocks. Good watching.
11. Skyline (2010)
PG-13 | 92 min | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.

Director: Jamin Winans | Stars: Christopher Soren Kelly, Quinn Hunchar, Jessica Duffy, Jennifer Batter
Votes: 22,380
Didn't know what to expect and was thoroughly surprised as to how this film had me entranced til the end. Some of the shots looked quite menacing but so simply done. I don't know what it was about this film as it's not very exciting but there's an underlying emotional side that kept me trapped. Very good for what it was.
14. Oblivion (I) (2013)
PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
A veteran assigned to extract Earth's remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself.
Director: Joseph Kosinski | Stars: Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko
Votes: 553,041 | Gross: $89.02M
I don't know if it's because I'm not a Cruise fan but all his films just seems to be an epic load of crap. Ok, maybe not that bad but this film was quite boring. The storyline was ok but not brilliant and I just kept waiting for something else to happen. The ending was good though.

Votes: 61,735 | Gross: $14.23M
Was this the 1st Mutant superhumans movie? Great twist ending but dodgy sound dubbing. I enjoyed at the time.

Votes: 81,835 | Gross: $25.46M
Erm, the jury is still out. I guess it was different to have the original videos built in with the story. Really dunno . . . although, what did that cop see. We all saw it as well, but come on, a spaceship, flying saucer even!!!
17. The Lawnmower Man (1992)
R | 108 min | Horror, Sci-Fi
A simple man is turned into a genius through the application of computer science.
Director: Brett Leonard | Stars: Jeff Fahey, Pierce Brosnan, Jenny Wright, Mark Bringelson
Votes: 39,024 | Gross: $32.10M
Essentially it was the film that paved the way for films like matrix and so for that it does get great recognition. But it doesn't stand the test of time as watching the film in the late noughties it doesn't do anything. Was great for it's time but not for nowadays.
18. The Final Cut (2004)

Set in a world with memory recording implants, Alan Hakman is a cutter, someone with the power of final edit over people's recorded histories. His latest assignment is one that puts him in danger.
Director: Omar Naim | Stars: Robin Williams, Jim Caviezel, Mira Sorvino, Mimi Kuzyk
Votes: 34,493 | Gross: $0.55M
The idea was really cool but it was done in a boring way. I mean I understand why but it did nothing for me. Interesting watch though.

A freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.
Director: Frank Darabont | Stars: Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Andre Braugher
Votes: 340,264 | Gross: $25.59M
If it wasn't for the religious segment that did just go on this wouldn't have been so bad. But then again I'll never understand why they wanted to go out knowing full well everyone got killed out there, did they think they were immortal? The ending is probably one of the greatest ever, nice to have an unhappy ending for a change. LOL

Votes: 139,600 | Gross: $20.49M
Nice to see John de Lancie in action even for a short while. This film was a poor mans Matrix in reverse? And I don't know why but it reminded me of Lawnmower man. I thought this film, boring and uninteresting!
