The fourth series of Call My Agent will close the festival.
Dutch actresses Halina Reijn and Carice van Houten’s new drama Red Light and UK supernatural comedy horror tale Truth Seekers are among 10 upcoming series due to compete in the third edition of Canneseries which is taking place as a hybrid event from October 9 to 14.
The annual television festival was originally set to run last April alongside Miptv until the content market cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The festival was rescheduled for October to run alongside MIPCOM instead, which has since moved online due to ongoing health concerns around the virus.

Netflix has placed an order for “Vinterviken 2021,” a contemporary adaptation of the acclaimed 1993 Mats Wohl novel, “Vinterviken,” the U.S. streaming giant announced Thursday.
In a coup for Endemol Shine’s Emea scripted division, “Vinterviken 2021” will be produced by Filmlance International, part of the Endemol Shine Group and producer of the original “The Bridge” (“Bron”/”Broen”), a milestone in Nordic Noir, as well as “Caliphate,” which earlier this year broke audience records on Swedish public broadcaster Svt’s VOD catch-up service Svt Play.
The original novel inspired a high-profile movie of the same title. The inclusion of the year in the new movie’s title looks like a declaration of intentions. A high school romantic drama, “Vinterviken 2021” plumbs social inequalities and prejudice which have only grown in the 25 years since the novel, doing so through a teen love story between Elisabeth and John-John where the audience discover, along with its...

Damn. it was a good year for music.
It didn’t always feel that way, though. While Kendrick Lamar’s aforementioned fourth studio album -- which hit like a meteor on the Friday before the rapper’s monster set to close out Coachella -- much of 2017 was defined by growers rather than out of the gate jams and much of the summer passed without a bona fide “Song of” said season. (Barely. More on that in a second.)
Really, it's only on looking back at the cavalcade of "Best Of" lists that footnote every year that you realize how full of noteworthy sounds 2017 in particular was. And now, with the nearly ubiquitous acceptance of streaming as the primary method of song consumption, not only is the roster of artists who find both large audiences and critical acclaim more diverse and democratized than ever, but the entire idea of a publication-determined "Best Music of the Year" feels almost silly. Wednesday, July 12, is just a normal day for many, but not for Remo the mixed breed dog .
Today, he graduated with a doggy education Ph.D., and “Top Dog” class honors from Tails (Teaching Animals and Inmates Life Skills) just four months after enduring nearly fatal abuse.
Rescuers were stunned that despite dehydration, malnutrition, skin disease and internal and external parasites, the young pup still acted loving and friendly when rescuers found him on March 14, stuffed inside a small metal box baking in the Palatka, Florida, sun.

Release dates are sometimes more interesting than their movies.
The simple answer for how a movie like The Boss Baby opens at number one is that it’s a major studio animated feature debuting in late March. Specific to this movie, however, there are certain special circumstances, like Beauty and the Beast finally dropping enough to give something else a shot and Ghost in the Shell being a flop, possibly due to its whitewashing casting controversy and possibly just due to its just not being very good.
March is a tricky month for movie releases. With Easter having an unfixed date falling either in March or April, there’s sometimes a holiday weekend, albeit not one typically known for moviegoing. Also, much of America’s children have a spring break, yet there’s no uniformity from county to county within any given state let alone across the country (many states and school districts also wait until April...

The American Kennel Club, the nation’s largest purebred dog registry, has released its annual list of the most popular dog breeds. This classy Fox production was considered the epitome of sick film subject matter in the pre- Psycho year of 1959, the true story of jazz-age thrill killers Leopold & Loeb. Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman are the nihilistic child murderers; Orson Welles stops the show with his portrayal of Clarence Darrow, going under a different name.

Halloween apparently comes early this year — February offers a quartet of promising horror movies, not to mention the latest chapter in the Fifty Shades erotic saga (which is its own sort of horror). Add to that a rare appearance from An-Actually-Trying-and-Not-Phoning-It-In Robert De Niro, a pair of extremely promising sequels, an experimental indie about a mass murderer and an Oscar-nominated documentary, and the next four weeks starts to look a bounty no matter your taste. Here's what coming soon to a theater near you in the next month.

It's been 18 years since Alan Partridge first mooted the notion of Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank - and as of last week, the project is a dream no longer.
Eubank's team-up with Hostelworld is, of course, a deliberate tip of the hat to Steve Coogan's comic creation - but too often the telly schedules are plagued with examples of #AccidentalPartridge.

The 50-year-old will fill in for Lorraine Kelly from Monday, February 16 to Friday, February 20.
The presenter is taking the week off to spend time with her family over the school holidays.

He’s been busy promoting his new movie “Fury,” and last night (October 14) Shia Labeouf had plenty of entertaining stories during his visit to “ Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
The “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” star began by describing his time in jail following his arrest at a Broadway performance of “Cabaret.”
"[One inmate] is like, 'What are you in here for?' And I'm like, 'Cabaret, homie,’” he recalled, noting that he lost all credibility after that.
Labeouf also discussed the way he and his costars treated Brad Pitt on the set of “Fury”- “We always called him Top because he’s the Top Dog. That dude went for it like we all went for it. Just, we were all vying for his attention, and we all wanted him to like us, so none of us wanted to be the guy that hit him really hard.”...

There have been umpteen adaptations of Stephen King’s works, but very few arrived with a screenplay penned by the Top Dog of Terror himself. One that does is A Good Marriage, the tale of a terrible family secret.
Earlier this week, King revealed to EW why he chose to adapt his novella for the big screen. Now, there’s a trailer for the film, which debuts in cinemas and on VOD on Oct. 3.
A Good Marriage is directed by Peter Askin and stars Joan Allen, Anthony Lapaglia, Stephen Lang, and Kristen Connolly.

Last night we learned Warner Bros. was entering Clint Eastwood's American Sniper into the Oscar race, giving the film a limited Christmas Day release before going wide in mid-January. Well, that means I needed to swoop over and do a little updating to my list of Oscar predictions, specifically in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, and while Sniper didn't actually make my list of nominees in any one of those categories, there was some shifting up and down of my current selection of nominees. Here's how each of those categories now look at the top: Best Picture Unbroken Wild Birdman Foxcatcher Gone Girl Boyhood Interstellar A Most Violent Year Selma Best Director Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman) David Fincher (Gone Girl) Richard Linklater (Boyhood) Best Actor Michael Keaton (Birdman) Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner) Miles Teller...

A few months back, NBC’s Chicago Fire offered a competition in which firehouses across the country submitted pictures of and information about their real-life firehouse dogs, to convince producers that theirs was the “Top Dog.” The Chicago Fire Top Dog winner, Smokey, filmed his guest appearance on the series yesterday for an episode to air this May. Dogs have become premium currency in TV land over the last 12 months. Stick Paul O'Grady in Battersea Dogs Home with a bulldog that's got a limp and you've got ratings gold.
From John Barrowman's Superstar Dogs to Sport Relief's Top Dog, every channel appears to be looking for the 'awww' factor.
Louis Theroux's latest documentary, City of Dogs, an investigation into the growing number of dangerous dogs and strays in La, took a very different tack. And anyone hoping for some cute shots of Theroux and a poochie cuddling up will have been left not only disappointed, but probably shocked and in tears.
Theroux's first entry in his new La Stories strand was a dog lover's nightmare. A truly horrific, heart-wrenching nightmare. Puppies quivering in fear in cages, battered and bruised dogs left abandoned in rooms filled with their own dirt and even the sight of a...

Sport Relief's Top Dog, honestly, was always going to be up our street. As the sort of people who still mourn Pets Win Prizes, the chance to see a bunch of canine companions having a go at various games was something that we were instantly on board with.
Of course, it's a plus that it's all for charity, but we'd watch this show even if it had nothing to do with Sport Relief. Not that it's a good show. Honestly, it's kind of shambolic. The set is a very shiny floor, with the BBC surely blowing its sparkle budget for the year on episode one. Gaby Roslin can barely hold it together when she tries to shout the game instructions over dogs barking. The phrase "on your barks, get set, go" is used.
So yes. It's kind of terrible. But we don't care, because it is so much fun.

Director Sam Mendes did a pretty bang-up job with Skyfall, the last entry in the James Bond franchise, so imagine the collective joy of every guy out there who orders his martinis shaken, not stirred (adding, “You know, like in those movies”) when it was announced that Mendes would return for James Bond film number 24. Now, actor Ralph Fiennes, who made his debut as the new M in Skyfall, has apparently forgotten the old spy adage “loose lips sink ships” (or is it pirates who say that?) and let slip that the next Bond film will begin filming in October.
Luckily Fiennes didn’t give too much away, though. When pressed for more “juicy deets” on the film, which is probably how a reporter from MTV would word it, Fiennes replied, “I haven’t read a script yet, so I can’t tell you much. They’d probably swear me to secrecy anyway.

Dogs — notably dalmatians, but all kinds of other breeds, as well — are a longtime tradition in American firehouses. NBC’s drama Chicago Fire recognized this during its first season when it added the dog “Pouch” (pictured) to its cast to keep the fictional Windy City firehouse crew company. The penultimate episode of The Big Reunion airs this evening on ITV2 (March 21), and we're already unsure as to how we will cope when 5ive, B*Witched, 911 and co are no longer entertaining us with their dark tales of '90s pop excess.
Abz from 5ive has become a hilarious must-watch figure of fun and the heartbreaking split between B*Witched's Lindsay and 911's Lee has been a weirdly emotional watch. The whole thing has had us digging out our old Live & Kicking magazines and wondering whatever happened to Let Loose.
The show's proved a hit for ITV2, so they're going to need to bring it back in some form in 2014. Digital Spy has five suggestions for Big Reunion spinoffs.

There's nothing the Internet loves more than animals (particular those who dish out advice), so it comes as no surprise that Animal Planet--one of the largest TV channels dedicated to the fauna of the world--is upping its web presence. Animal Planet has already launched one web companion series and will soon launch another four, each one paired with a different TV program. The only currently active one, Shorty's Top Dog, follows Shorty Rossi, the host of Pit Boss, as he searches around Mexico for a new faithful companion. Though the content is different from Pit Boss (which follows Rossi as he runs his Pit Bull rescue shelter), the general tone is the same. Animal Planet knows how much people like excitable dogs. The upcoming companions will focus on Tanked, My Cat From Hell, River Monster, and Call of the Wildman. Their releases will be well spaced out, with one more debuting in March,...

Sunday nights must present a programming problem for Dallas Roberts since his two most high profile TV gigs -- The Good Wife and The Walking Dead -- air opposite one another. Thankfully, behind the scenes, both shows have been incredibly generous when it comes to scheduling Roberts' time ensuring he can continue to breathe life into both Wife's Owen Cavanaugh and Walking's Milton Mamet.
With Alicia Florrick's brother currently off on one of his adventures (although Roberts believes Owen will be seen again before this season wraps up), I fully focused on The Walking Dead when chatting with Roberts yesterday. In addition to weighing in one where Milton's true loyalties lie, Roberts reveals what fans can expect from the finale!

The retelling of a classic fairytale – one as famous and re-trod as Jack and the Beanstalk – is that it can get an update or a flourish with each redux. Or in the case of “Jack the Giant Slayer,” a stylistic twist. Ewan McGregor is a representative sample of the notion, in part, because: just look at that hair-do. It’s not that the physical evolution of the star from “Trainspotting,” “Moulin Rouge” and “The Impossible” into Top Dog in the King’s guard in the “Giant” movie is all that revolutionary. McGregor’s character Elmont’s cowlick is a mile-high and his battle...

Eh… sorta. The consensus about last weekend’s SNL seems to be that while Jennifer Lawrence tried her very best, the show itself wasn’t quite up to snuff. Maybe it’s because the writers ran out of topical material early on, forcing them to resort to spoofs of ’70s-era foreign films and the Civil War. Maybe the month-long break between December’s Martin Short Christmas Spectacular and Saturday’s episode just wasn’t long enough.
But no matter: This poll is about the show’s host rather than the show itself — and by most rubrics, Jennifer Lawrence proved herself to be capable and game.

Jennifer Lawrence hosted "Saturday Night Live" this week, with musical guest The Lumineers -- but the episode was, frankly, a bit of a disappointment.
Lawrence is usually extremely charismatic and hilarious -- we want her to be our best friend -- but the writing on Saturday night's show didn't play to her strengths. (Or, possibly, she was trying to be diplomatic and careful in the midst of awards season.)
Her opening monologue was about trashing her fellow Best Actress Oscar nominees -- but unfortunately, she wasn't willing to be particularly brutal, so the humor fell short.
The subsequent skits didn't get any better -- and "Top Dog Chef," a parody of "Top Chef" with dogs making food out of garbage, was arguably the worst "SNL" skit we've seen all year.
In fact, our favorite skit of the evening didn't even involve Lawrence at all! The Starbucks Verisimo skit below was...

"Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence may want to keep with her dramatic career and avoid comedy. We have all of Lawrence.s highlights, including her monologue, Hunger Games Press Conference, and Top Dog Chef competition. Lawrence gamely delivered what was written but it fell flat and unfocused. The best bits were the Weekend Update news as per usual, The Lumineers refreshing musical performance and Bill Hader as Tommy Lee Jones with his patented poopy face. This week's skewered culture effigies were everyone's most hated sports duo, the latest American idiots writ large: Lance Armstrong and Manti Te'o. Even Jodie Foster's rambling but brave speech at the Globes was fair game. All of which stuffed inside a funny Piers Morgan sketch...
