Titan Comics and Games Workshop have announced their latest comic collaboration: Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch – an all-new, four-issue miniseries set in the grim space fantasy Warhammer 40,000 universe. Written by George Mann | Art by Tazio Bettin | Colour by Erica Erin Angiolini | Published by Titan Comics | Format: Paperback, 112pp
After a thousand years of warp storms, the Calaphrax Cluster has re-opened to the universe, and Baltus and his fellow Dark Angel Space Marines join a strike force sent to explore and secure the region, in search of forgotten artefacts and ancient technology! But the forces of Chaos are never far away… and a shameful Dark Angels secret from the Horus Heresy soon leads to a new front in the war!
Ahh, Warhammer 40000. I remember you from my youth. Hours spent painstakingly painting and arranging little figurines on my desk so I could make shooty noises out of the corner of my mouth and stare at them proudly.
What? Game? There’s a game?
Anyway, onto the comic. This volume comes from Titan and collects the first four issues of the series under the title of Will of Iron. There are plenty of opportunities to make shooty noises out of the corner of your mouth throughout because as we all know: in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
It’s not the destination, however, but the journey that really shines through in this volume.
The artwork, by Tazio Bettin, has some very impactful moments throughout. Made even more stunning by colourist Erica Erin Angiolini, there are a few pages where I just stopped to gape at the beautiful space vistas that these two have managed to bring alive. In fact, if it had been a comic comprised entirely of dramatic space landscapes, I would have been happy (but maybe a little bored). Luckily, we also get some well envisioned characters and action sequences as well.
On the story side, it’s written by George Mann. In our review of the first issue by Dean Fuller, he mentions how the story is not really for people new to Warhammer 40k or the surrounding universe. For this first volume, that description still stands true. I get that Space Marines don’t like Chaos Space Marines because of reasons and the Chaos Marines are probably the bad guys because they are uglier and wear black (possibly because it’s slimming?) but, beyond that, I don’t have much of an in depth knowledge myself. I mean, why can’t they all just get along?
I also realised, on the my third read through of the volume, that I didn’t know any of the character’s names. At first, I thought it was because they had names like Inquisitor Sabbethiel, Interregator-Chaplain Altheous, and Master Seraphus, which are long and complicated and refuse to stay in my brain. But on a fourth read through, I came to the conclusion that character development is on the weaker side.
Inquisitor Sabbethiel (just writing that name is a pain) and her motley crew are by far the most interesting group in the volume, but they are just teased at. Who are they? Why are they following them? They are also the most varied bunch of characters in the comic, providing a stark contrast to the faceless space marines and armies who shoot at each other for the rest of the issue. Maybe a bit more character time and less epic battles might have balanced it out, but an argument could be made that you don’t buy a ‘Warhammer’ comic for the emotional journey. Pew pew pew!
All in all, not a terrible volume. If you’re a 40k fan, and have the lore down, or are looking for a fast-paced, action-filled read this might be one worth checking out. But for the uninitiated or a random passer-by? Maybe not quite your cup of tea.

Whether you're familiar with the game Warhammer 40,000 or not, this is still an epic and visually stunning fan-made animated series that anyone can enjoy! It's called Helsreach and it was created by Richard Boylan. The series in an adaptation of Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s 2010 novel of the same name, which "follows the exploits of the Black Templar chapter of Space Marines as they race to defend the Imperial planet of Armageddon."
I really dig the dark and gritty animation style. It has a unique feel to it and it works perfectly for the telling of this story. I hope you all enjoy what's been released so far!

Roughly 22 years ago, I was introduced to a game called Warhammer 40K. A game where the forces of Space Marines, Orks, Eldar and Chaos clashed in battle as a part of table top war gaming. Fast forward a couple decades, Warhammer moved the battle to the digital arena, with the war reaching to PCs and numerous console machines.
Now, the Warhammer franchise furthers its growth with an Mmo! So let’s check out the newest game for this fantasy world, Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade.
Starting out you need to create a character to use in game. I started out with Eldar, my favorite race. However, if you don’t want to go with the superior race, there are the options of Orks, Space Marines & Chaos Marines. You then have 5 factions within those races to choose from. The Tyranid are also available, but only as an Npc race. (See chart below...

The Disney Princesses just got their most badass reimagining yet! Australian game developer and artist Emre C Deniz takes the Disney Princesses to a new level of insanity as Warhammer 40k Space Marines, and they look freakin’ awesome!
When talking to the Revelist about the why he came up with this #FemaleSpaceMarines project, he explained that it was “to support people being harassed on social media [by] aggressive members of the Warhammer 40K community who felt that their ‘lore’ was threatened.” He went on to say:
"The images were a symbol of merging the two most extremes of gender representation, Disney and Warhammer, into one single statement; that anyone can be a ‘Space Marine' and no one can stop that.”
I’ve gotta say, that’s pretty cool and inspiring to the Warhammer 40k community.
Sit the fuck down Gaston, Belle's got this.

Hr Games and Funbox Media are teaming up to bring Space Hulk Ascension to the PS4 with both digital and physical release versions. The PlayStation release comes as Hr Games have signed a Pal deal to bring this latest Warhammer 40,000 tie-in to the platform.
The strategy title was originally released for PC back in 2014 to solid reviews, and this new PlayStation version is set to come with extra content and refinements to improve the experience. Putting you in control of the heroic Space Marines, you’ll fight your way through over a hundred campaign missions as you attempt to null the threat of classic Warhammer enemies such as the dreaded Genestealers.
Space Hulk Ascension is more than “just” a strategy game, however, and it offers RPG-style customisation options and a large reworking of the mechanics of the original. Its dark and gritty approach to the classic conflicts of Warhammer 40,000 will...

Xcom 2’s delay to February of next year leaves an undeniable gap in this fall’s strategy game lineup – a hole that other studios seem eager to fill.
Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch – Enhanced Edition capitalizes on Xcom: Enemy Unknown’s isometric perspective for its turn-based firefights, in which players must halt the spread of the franchise’s insect-like Tyranids on the edge of Imperial space. Recruit more than 30 veteran Space Marines from the Dark Angels, Imperial Fists, and Black Templars, gain experience and equip additional abilities to form the first and last line of defense against bio-mechanical horrors such as Genestealers and Carnifexes. With at least 150 weapons and items tailor-built for your elite squad as well, no situation is too dangerous for the Deathwatch.
The team at Rodeo Games has not been resting on its laurels, either. While Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch debuted on iOS devices this past July, the developers have...

Given the grand lore and well-crafted history of the Warhammer 40,000 experience, it’s little wonder it’s been the focus of a plethora of video game adaptations over the years. Now, Warhammer 40,000: Regicide joins the ranks of the likes of third person shooter Space Marine or the popular Rts battler Dawn Of War, and it brings with it something that’s at once surprising but also reassuringly familiar.
Perhaps closest in style to the strategy gameplay of Relic Entertainment’s Warhammer series, Warhammer 40,000: Regicide once more puts players in control of the familiar armies of the famous tabletop miniature game as they wage battle in their seemingly never-ending war. While Dawn Of War played like virtually every other Rts game on the market at the time, players here will find their battles restricted to classic – yet gloriously embellished – 8×8 chess boards. Sound like a bad thing? Well, it’s absolutely not.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. Or more accurately: In the grim darkness of the far future, everything is done because it’s awesome. Seriously, if Warhammer 40,000 had one rule, it would be everything is done because it’s cool.
Are things like chainsaw swords or giant robots the size of cities practical? No, not really. How about giant cathedrals on top of star ships the size of continents? Not particularly. Fire lines of plasma rifle wielding soldiers that can kill their enemies long before they get in range to hit them with their chainsaw swords? Ok, maybe, but the Tau Empire is different. A shame they’re not in this game.
However, while this game may not feature the best faction in the Warhamer 40k lore, it is still one of the best games to carry the Warhammer 40k title. At the very least,...

Sometimes I’m not sure what’s scarier: the implacably murderous Alien in Ridley Scott’s film, or the fact that the groundbreaking science-fiction movie debuted 35 years ago. Yikes!
To celebrate, of sorts, Fox and Sega have collaborated on Alien Isolation, a videogame debuting today that lovingly recreates the grungy, lived-in look of the original movie alongside plenty of creepy jolts and chills of its own. It’s all plunked down in a new setting that would be a fantastic sequel (hint, hint) were Sir Ridley ever to be so disposed. If you can handle the game’s gut-churning suspense, it’s available for PCs and Sony and Microsoft videogame consoles of the two most recent generations. I highly recommend it for those with durable stomach linings and an inclination to have the bejeezus scared out of them.

Art and storytelling comes first at Famous Monsters, not political commentary or whining. This week, however, the internet was on fire with the news that Apple would attempt to ban Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga #12 from their digital platforms, supposedly owing to a rather graphic sexual depiction. (The situation has since been resolved by an apology from comiXology, the leading online retailer of digital comics). Apple has done similar things in the past (see Joe Casey and Piotr Kowalski’s Sex #1), which is of course their prerogative as a private corporation.
I give you this, however: Saga, in all of its extreme manifestations, is a great comic. Not only that, it is one of many great comics from this week that feature less-than-family-friendly elements, proving that quality horror, Sci-Fi, and fantasy, in whatever format, may contain a number of images that one might find “objectionable”, yet can still...

James Cameron’s Aliens has had more influence on video games than any other film in history. It was a raucous, violent romp that was rife with elements that felt like a video game before home technology could even replicate it. The cast of space marines is a trope that has been used in games from Doom all the way to Halo, the ammo count display on guns has been featured in the likes of Dead Space and others…hell, the movie even had a “boss battle” against the Queen Alien that presented the sort of escalation that games have used for decades.
Despite these qualities, a film-accurate, quality Aliens game experience has eluded us. The Aliens vs. Predator titles have been non-canonical asides that varied in accuracy and playability, and many of the straightforward Alien titles have been abysmal products of the license-heavy Nes days. Wayforward’s Aliens:...

Independent Danish video game studio Full Control have announced that in association with Games Workshop they will be bringing the legendary Space Hulk (a game which I played to death as a teenager) to popular digital gaming platforms in 2013. Based on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the game is set to be a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS.
Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers. Based on the “Sin of Damnation” campaign from the 3rd edition board game, Space Hulk includes a robust 12 mission single-player and co-operative campaign.

Tired of hearing about Prometheus? If your answer is yes, consider moving on. If you’re still coming to grips with the film or if you’re a huge fan of the Alien universe, then read on, because we get our dirty little mitts on three books that will take you deeper into the movies than ever before. From Titan Books, Ridley Scott’s newest, Prometheus, gets a wonderful hardcover “The Art of the Film” treatment from author Mark Salisbury, while the original film is highlighted in the recently re-published The Book of Alien. Space Marines, form up, as the stars of James Cameron’s installment are highlighted in the re-published Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual. The Book of Alien From authors Paul Scanlon and Michael Gross, this book, originally published in 1979 (and then again in 1993, and now once more in 2012), is a must have for any fan of Alien. It...

Ridley Scott returns to the world of "Alien" with this weekend's "Prometheus" -- and it's to celebrate some of the nastiest, scariest monsters in all of movie history: the Xenomorphs. Famously designed by H.R. Giger, these drooling extraterrestrials have terrified not only Ripley and the Space Marines, but thirty years of movie audiences. While we won't reveal if those big creepy Xenomorphs pop up in "Prometheus," we can check out a collection of awesome pieces of artwork pitting the Alien against Predator, Master Chief and E.T. With a history that spans nearly half a century, 11 feature films and a combined total of over 700 hour long episodes of television—not all of the Star Trek stories are going to be stellar. In fact some of them are downright bad (“Spock’s Brain”?). Still, they are all loved in their own way by fans far and wide, including this writer—but that can’t make the worst of them better, nor can it make the plot holes, inconsistencies and changed premises easier to swallow.
One of the worst offenders in Star Trek’s history is the eighth feature film (second for the crew of the Next Generation) Star Trek: First Contact. A film that, while I enjoyed it, nearly ruined the series’ most enticing villain.
Here I’ll recap ten reasons First Contact ruined the Borg.

This is one of those times being a geek, a collector and a fan can really come in handy. When Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine from Relic/Thq came out we covered it’s release. It got me thinking back to 1987 and the launch of the Role Playing game. I bought the copy of White Dwarf which heralded the launch of the new game and the universe that had been carefully crafted. That’s when I first encountered the amazing work of Wil Madoc Rees.
So after playing this latest incarnation I went back to my attic and dug out that issue. I then hunted out Wil. He’s now living in California and working in Hollywood. He’s easy to talk with and it’s been a pleasure to hook-up with such a talented artist; one who’s visual concept work has helped shape some of cinemas recent biggest block busters.

Eurogamer have revealed the Exterminatus Dlc for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be released on October 25th on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, bringing with it four-player online co-op and two scenarios: Assault on Hab Center Andreas, and Escape from Kalkys Facility.
The new game mode, dubbed Exterminatus (obviously), pits Space Marines against Orks and the Forces of Chaos. You can play the new mode as either a Tactical Marine, Devastator or Assault class. According to Eurogamer:
…you can use perks unlocked in competitive multiplayer to give you an edge. Co-op progression will apply to your multiplayer ranking, too. Teams will be scored on their performance, and benefit from multipliers and dynamic challenges along the way.

Warhammer has always been a slightly tricky franchise. The table top game has been a long standing feature in many avid gamers lives, my own included, but we have never really been treated to a game that did the franchise the justice it deserved. Sure, there have been Warhammer games, from both the classic and the 40k universe, but with the possible exceptions of the Dawn Of War franchise, none have been really up to scratch (2003's Fire Warrior was hoped to bring new life to the franchise for the PS2, but received only lukewarm reviews). It is safe to say that none of the games to date have really given you the sense of strength and power that should come with controlling a Space Marine, a super human solider bred for the sole purpose of destroying the enemies of man.
But thankfully, Relic Entertainment and Thq seem to have taken notice of this discrepancy,...

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will undoubtedly hold the most appeal for players of Games Workshop’s miniatures wargame of the same name. The action game is steeped in its parent game’s mythology, and features many of the units and weapons that fans have spent hours lovingly painting. Fortunately, it isn’t pure fan service: It offers a fast-paced, gory start to a promising new franchise. Players control Captain Titus, a biologically enhanced, power-armor-wearing Ultramarine. The Space Marines have been deployed to stop an Ork takeover of a Forge World, a planet-spanning factory that makes the weaponry for humanity ...

Very few games can say that they have made the jump from tabletop minature wargame to full-blown video game franchise, in fact, "Warhammer 40,0000" may be the only one. With an abundance of experience in the Mmo space, and even an Xbla/Psn title under its belt, "Warhammer" seems like its ready to make a reach for the mainstream crowd with the franchise's latest release, "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine."
The Basics
"Space Marine" puts you in the hefty boots of Captain Titus, a steadfast defender of Forge World, where he and his Ultramarines are treated like some kind of warrior/royalty hybrid. Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Bridesmaids – Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne
Priest – Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
Movie of the Week
Priest
The Stars: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
The Plot: A priest (Bettany) disobeys church law in order to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
The Buzz: I’ve got to be honest, I think this film looks horrible. It’s ‘Movie of the Week’ strictly as a path of least resistance. If I happen to have any regular readers out there, they’re certain to know that I’m not going anywhere near Bridesmaids, not even with a blindfold, and so Priest suddenly shines with promise — relatively speaking of course.
Priest continues director Scott Charles Stewart’s working affair with Paul Bettany (whom last teamed together on the unimpressive Legion). Bettany bugs me a bunch, anyone else? I’ve just never taken him well,...

The macho action of Battle: Los Angeles leaves James pondering the Us Marine Corp’s perpetual aggression against alien visitors in films…
Caution: This piece contains mild spoilers for Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles
Last year, Los Angeles was invaded by aliens in the Brothers Strause special effects showcase, Skyline. Once the descending extraterrestrial space hoovers had subjected the city to blue lighting and a blast of shock and awe, their intentions became clear. They came from outerspace for our brains.
Having seen its shiny people undergo the cerebrum-sucking ordeals of Skyline, Hollywood saw the (blue) light and adopted a new strategy for Battle: Los Angeles, this year's alien invasion. They sent in the Us Marines.
The spacelings couldn't possibly remove the grey stuff that sits between the ears of the archetypal jarhead and recycle it as a power source. The mind of a Marine is pure rock hard Marine Corps and nothing more.

The spacelings couldn't possibly remove the grey stuff that sits between the ears of the archetypal jarhead and recycle it as a power source. The mind of a Marine is pure rock hard Marine Corps and nothing more.
Caution: This piece contains mild spoilers for Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles

Further to Clothes on Film’s analysis of how Alien’s revolutionary costume design brought a grimy reality to sci-fi, in this second part of our look at the Alien Anthology Blu-ray boxset we concentrate on the sequels.
It is to James Cameron’s credit that, while re-engineering Alien’s haunted house tropes as full-scale war movie, he recognised the important part costume design played in Ridley Scott’s shocker seven years earlier. In the first film, clothing is one of the means by which humans stamp their personality against the dual threat to their identity posed by both the alien and the faceless corporation they work for: Weyland-Yutani.
This is a difficult trick to pull off with soldiers; Cameron’s Space Marines are, by the nature of the job, decked out in regulation gear. But, taking his cues from footage of the Vietnam War, where soldiers daubed their helmets in slogans,...

Warhamer: 40,000, the dystopian science fantasy setting of Games Workshop’s table-top strategy game, has a CGI direct-to-dvd movie coming out next month: Ultramarines. If you've ever wanted to know what "butch" looks like, these guys define the word.
Spanning a huge fictional universe, the Imperium of Man – a decentralised but totalitarian interstellar regime - interacts with various factions and races of aliens, including the Tau, the Eldar, the Necrons, the Tyranids and the Orks, battling against the forces of evil, the Daemons of Chaos who live in a parallel dimension, the Warp.
Mankind’s defences are formed primarily of the Imperial Guard, huge in numbers, and the genetically-enhanced, elite super-warriors, the Space Marines, also known as the Adeptus Astartes. Devotedly loyal to the Emperor and followers of the Codex Astartes (the book of doctrine for all Space Marine chapters), they are the finest and most feared of all fighting forces in the Imperium.

A fun new trailer has been released for Ultramarines a Warhammer 40,000 Movie, and it looks like a great production for the the budget the creative team was given to make it. I understand it's not up to par with the CGI feature films that are being released in theaters, but it still looks like it will be fun. The fan of the game should enjoy this. I really like the dark gritty sci-fi feel that the movie has.
The film will be available as a Special Edition Collector’s Edition for a limited period only exclusively from the official website. Pre-orders start today, for a worldwide release on November 29, 2010. Visit the official website for more information.

We have added the first teaser trailer a for Warhammer 40,000 movie Ultramarines.
Ultramarines is a tense sci-fi action thriller set in the 41st milleneum, when the galaxy is burning and there is nothing but war. Mankind’s sole defence against the lurking alien races are the Space Marines, genetically enhanced super-warriors, for whom loyallty to their emperor is all. The most fearless chapter of this mighty army is the Ultramarines.
Based on the internationally successful futuristic tableI-top war strategy game, Warhammer 40, 000, Ultramarines uses state-of-the-art facial capture technology and stunning CGI animation to bring powerfully to life the Space Marines characters and their adversaries.
Scripted by franchise veteran Dan Abnett, who was interviewed recently by SciFiNow, the film also stars the vocal talents of Terence Stamp (Superman, Valkyrie), John Hurt ( Alien, Hellboy) and Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon, Dog Soldiers). This is the first-ever feature length movie interpretation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
