Carol killed Be
jenifer-497733 May 2021
Carol is very strange. The whole situation is strange. This isn't even her house! Her hoarding is so disrespectful to this family. She needs to go.

Another Way To Look At This
syerra6 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Was Carol a hoarder BEFORE she married Dave, or did these symptoms exhibit themselves after? One possibility is she or she and Dave killed his first wife so they could be together since the three "were so close." They kept emphasizing "how close they were." Everyone kept saying "we never saw Be's depression" and "she hid it well" and "our house was a party house". Well, maybe it was because it didn't exist. Then after the murder, Carol felt so guilty about what had happened that she turned to hoarding to try to keep everyone out so she wouldn't have to face them about killing their mom. It happens.

Carol is wrong. But the family threw fuel on the fire
gbdoering13 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Carol created this mess but the mean family never welcomed her and never accepted her. Sure she was there right when Be killed herself, but the dad welcomed her and probably needed someone. I wonder if the family was even half decent to her if this wouldn't have happened .. I feel gross watching this garbage yet it's addictive.

Carol is a viper and Dave a loser
schylar-9514725 October 2021
Dave is a loser as well, he let this old shrew spend all his money (and how did a firefighter have that much money?) and all the weirdness about the death of his 1st wife. Dave seemed a villain as well, I had zero sympathy for him. I read he died. Love Dorothy, but this needed Dr Chabaud or Dr Green , or Dr Zasio to stir it up, I'm not a fan of this psychologist, he is dull as dirt and gives dubious advice. How anyone could watch this and have sympathy for Carol is insane. Granted she was hilarious and completely nuts. "I'm not going there" 😂. The only sympathetic character was the grandson, Mary. Hopefully she takes that old car to Lilithfair and finds an Ellen.

"Carol Can"
kcfarrior1 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I chose this episode at random and my selection did not disappoint. I love having an open mind and understanding mental health and how bad it can really get. The mind is a fascinating and dangerous thing. There was a lot to take in within the first 20 minutes!

Everyone hates Carol

I'm a little intrigued by this suicide story, I can almost believe that Carol or Dave had something to do with it. I feel like they probably gaslit her into committing the "deed"

The psychiatrist/psychologist seems a little robotic and cold hearted.

I need people to understand that it's okay to have a hard time processing the death of a parent, it's hard.

No one can go down to the basement, "but Carol can" that was definitely a crazy statement and it makes the watcher assume Carol had something to do with the past wife's death.

Way to dump on your gold-digging, hoarding step mom
dizzyliz5 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I know the show producers and participants have a narrative to follow, and under the guise of wanting to help someone with a mental problem, but wow, the accusations thrown at Carol of being this evil gold digger, and the relatives not knowing how to de-escalate and when to step away from over the top confrontation, is just way out of line. Prompting her to say something nasty about her relatives, and when she doesn't comply, calling her combative? This is the most one-sided hate-fest I've seen on this show. They're usually helpful on this show from what I've seen, dealing with mental illness, but if I had all this hatred being directed at me, I would retreat into resignation too. Towards the end, it seems as if everyone is the bad cop, and Mary comes out as the "good cop." This woman has my sympathy with people like this surrounding her. Ok, so we've helped Carol with her problem, can we get some anger management therapy for the relatives now?

There is way more than hoarding going on.
enchanting17917 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched this episode and I just wanted to scream at the tv! First, I don't know anything about Carol's past but she definitely had some other mental health issues. The family is correct in that they wanted the house to be put back the way it was. The family, except Mary, were just horrible. I can understand the hoarding and being mad at that, but to ignore the fact that you may also be mad at Be for killing herself should have been obvious . The hatred towards Carol was over the top. Shame on the psychologist for not intervening with anything. The shadow of Be hung over that family and especially Carol it was stifling. No wonder there was a hoarding issue. Just like alcoholism , hoarding affects the whole family. They all needed counseling. I really think the only person who came out of this, sort of healthy was Mary the step-granddaughter. At the end of the episode you find out that it was all for naught. I wanted to say that I was proud of Mary and how she handled her grandma. It takes a lot of strength to be firm and kind at the same time. The rest of the situation was just truly heartbreaking.

Worst episode ever.
averagebear24 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dorothy and Dave are so clueless. How about addressing where this all started from, his kids hatred of Carol. Clearly her hoarding comes from battling his family nastiness and hatred of her, even though Carol isn't the one that started this. Carol has lived under Be's ghost and not one person mentioned that, they accuse Carol of keeping things she didn't even know. They all just want to hate her and blame her, how about if they tried talking to her calmly and with respect? Therapy fail.

Carol is the Only Honest Person
jacobfoos17 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Shame on everyone. From the start the producer/editor belittles Carol with the "story text slides." The family all say "step" when referring to Carol. Even the granddaughter calls Carol her step-grandmother. (Who does that?)

The family blames Carol for literally everything. Hey guys, the husband is standing right there too. Why don't you ask him why he let this happen? If the family was so concerned about the father's health and living conditions, why didn't they bring him home with them? (I'm venting, but trying to point out that there is a lot more to the story that they never push through.)

They never focus on healing. They jump from saying that hoarding possessions is bad, to saying that having the house back will bring the family together. The house is NOT the issue.

Everyone is attaching their emotions to physical objects and Carol is the only one who is honest. They keep saying "she's not taking responsibility, blah blah blah," when she is telling them "I know this is my fault, I did this." She admits it from start to finish.

Shame on the professionals who focused on all the wrong things. Carol was never accepted by the family and that rejection ballooned into chaos.

Other issue- misuse of taxpayer funds by having the firefighters cleaning the house "in between responding to calls."

They're supposed to help people on this show.
alisonfmatthews23 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was hard to watch. Every episode of Hoarders is about a person with a mental illness, but from the beginning when Carol struggles to answer questions you quickly catch on her husband's family are constantly yelling before she can answer.

The family accused her of the most outlandish things. The therapist never steps in and reminds them she has a medical condition. He just lets them berate her. They basically accuse her of befriending someone to steal her husband and then wonder why she doesn't want to live with.

Basically everyone in this episode, besides Dorthy, attacks the person with the mental illness and we're supposed to be okay with it.
