Oh hi Mark
haskel-729519 March 2023
Thanks to the utter brilliance of writer/director and possible heir apparent to Steven Speilberg Tommy Wiseau, I can never see actor Greg Sestero as any character other than Mark, and I subconsciously say "oh hi Mark" when he pops up. Infrared, which Sestero also produced, really could use some Wiseau magic. As found footage "ghost hunters in an abandoned location" films go, this one is no better or worse than most. That isn't saying much. The cast is capable and tries but you can only do so much with what they've been given to work with here. It tries to literally check all the found footage cliche boxes and mostly does. It's watchable but far from memorable.

Infrared

Warning: Spoilers
Directors and writers Robert Livings and Randy Nundlall Jr. Have gone back to the found footage well for a movie about a show also called Infrared which has a paranormal investigator and his production crew searching for ghosts at the Lincoln School, an abandoned and possibly haunted place scheduled to be razed.

Wes (Jesse Janzen) is the exorcist. His sister Izzy (Leah Finity) is a medium. Randy (Randy Nundlall Jr.) is the producer. Austin (Austin Blank) and Rob (Robert Livings) are here on sound and camera. They're ready to make a paranormal TV show but searching for the kind of content that will break through what's on basic cable.

As they roll past the school, Wes becomes obsessed and convinces the caretaker (Greg Sestero from The Room) to let them inside. Years ago, a gas leak killed several students and a teacher and the place really is haunted, all while Wes and Izzy fight as they had a falling out years ago and never expected to work together again.

Honestly, I could never see another found footage movie again and be happy. This at least has a solid performance by Sestero and a pretty frightening last ten minutes, but getting there is filled with so much talking and enough shaky cam to make me nauseated. Even I have my limits.

Had potential With no experience
mqwbqmj24 August 2022
I'm guessing there was 1 writer for this movie who had no one to bounce ideas off of as far as the script goes. On top of that the lady's acting was absolutely terrible. Wes' acting however while not incredibly great was actually not bad. The script took away from his acting skills I think. A better script could've made him seem a little more authentic cause he had his moments. Usually getting into his line he was good but by the end of his line or lines he lost the ability to be called a good actor. The writer had a good idea regarding what the next setting and lines would be but it seems like he got bored half way through each scene and rushed it just to be done. My advice take your time and keep with it. Some acting was actually so good I couldn't tell it was actually a movie... had to go check because the mannerisms and lines were superbly authentic, like the lady in the coffee cup scene... super job. I'll give it 4 cause I actually watched it.

Infrablah!

I've watched many found footage movies over the years. Most are pretty bad, because you have to wait usually for the last 10 minutes for something to happen. But when you wait 90 minutes and nothing happens, thats a disappointment. Boring, boring, boring. Characters are dull. Script is non existent, and there is no tense build-up at all. Why do i need 600 characters to leave a review? Come on IMDB, thats ridiculous, its a movie made on a budget lower that a Dennys breakfast special for seniors. And I'm now rambling on to get to my magic number so i can leave this review to warn you to not waste your time. Im gonna hit that submit button again. Gimme a sec.....

Nothing happens
zamboni-3663323 July 2022
I really wanted to like this movie. Reviews seem to be all over the place. I just couldn't get into it. Absolutely nothing happens until the last fifteen minutes. And by then, I didn't care. I kept pausing it and hoping it was almost over. Wasn't scary. Wasn't creepy. Wasn't gory. Wasn't anything. I see what they were going for, but it did nothing for me.

Ho-Hum
payupyou7 August 2022
I couldn't make it through more than six minutes at a sitting. I ended up refilling my empty spice and seasoning containers and rearranging my spice rack. Ya, that was more interesting than this film.

Can't even call it a slow burn, more of a tepid leftover omelette. This film was like, a handful of folks binged watched Grave Encounters (pretty good films those two are) and Hell House LLC and every other iteration in that sub-genre and decided to toss their hat in the ring.

IMO it's a failure. Can't recommend it for any reason.. I've spent more time writing this review than I have watching the film in one sitting.

Awful
andie-8795915 August 2022
Just imagine sitting in a chair staring at your wall for 89 minutes. Watching a pile of rocks is more entertaining. Flossing your teeth is more exciting.

To be fair the actors showed some promise but the fact NOTHING happens is still that.... nothing. Ever. Happens.

A film full of missed opportunities
kjohn-7789130 July 2023
Last night I sat down to watch this and an hour and a half later I came away thinking this movie could have been so much better.

It starts off with an exorcism, which made my partner and I laugh out loud, that is not something you want in a horror film.

Then we go to a woman wanting to go into a haunted school and place cameras there, in one part the door slams closed, she walks back I tot what room and even though there is a window open with the blinds blowing, she doesn't think it's that that had made the door slam shut.

She disappears, this is where I guessed the so called twist.

Then we go back to the original cast who talk crap for what seemed forever and the movie went back to being boring.

This misfit group then go into the school and find the cameras, without even looking for the second one, they find it.

Then the janitor turns up, this is the so called twist I saw ages ago in the movie.

I am not going to put anything down here that gives the plot away.

They get trapped in a what I shall call, a small unfinished space, they are trapped.

Even though there is a ladder to the side that goes up to a tunnel that now one sees, hang on, I thought these were experts in their field.

This script is as so full of holes, you could have driven a bus through.

Little minor details ruined what could have been a really good movie.

Yeah f those potholes and been filled, this could have been as good as Grave Encounters and He'll House LLC, but alas because they didn't make the script tight and the movie more tense. This movie will end up in the FF bin for poor films.

It's a shame.

Better Than I Expected
ladymidath22 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I found Infrared on Tubi and decided to give it a watch. There had been some mixed reviews and I was curious because it had Greg *The Room* Sestero in it. It was created on a budget and it shows in some of the effects.

The acting can be a bit erratic at time but overall, is actually pretty solid. The premise, a found footage film has admittedly been done to death, but there are some good ones out there and this is one of them. The movie isn't long, but it does take it's time to set up the story and let it breathe. There isn't a lot of blood and gore, but some solid atmosphere and a sense that things are starting to go wrong.

I enjoyed it and I think it's worth a watch.

Mostly boring filler
twesterm-1043328 October 2023
This is basically the gist of this movie:

* two tapes are found. One is about 10 minutes, the other is rest of the movie.

* literally nothing happens in the first hour of the 2nd tape.

* things start to happen suddenly and it's great for about 2 minutes.

* villain basically spends the rest of the movie monologuing * the end

Skip this movie.

It's just a giant snooze fest of some guy trying to make a generic ghost hunter show except he's really bad at it. At one point he mentions he finds his producer and crew on craigslist and given the camera work I believe it.

Most of the entirety of the movie is just someone badly making a ghost hunter type show.

So much wasted potential
aidenscoolmom0928 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I normally do not try and judge a movie based on negative reviews bc I've watched some great movies that were rated very, very low and turned out to be some of the best movies I've seen. In this case.. they were right.. there's no ghosts, no scares, nada. My bad, there was a slammed door and a locker room door that was slammed shut. Im a huge fan of found footage movies but there was no footage to be found! It seemed to focus the entire movie on the rift between the main guy (Wes) and his sister (Isabel). The acting was alright, there was so much potential here and it fell flat. Believe the reviews when they say this movie fell severely flat..

Infrared

Warning: Spoilers
Thoroughly enjoyed the film. It feels real and a little awkward, like found footage should be. It left me suitably uncomfortable and on the edge of my seat because you knew the scare was coming but I couldn't pick where from.

The ending is surprising and the brother/sister relationship as well as the filming of that evolution is well done. Just the right amount of humorous moments and conflict that feel genuine and natural.

A Homage to Classic Found-footage Films
filmpurgatory28 August 2022
Greg Sestero is perhaps best known for his first starring role in Tommy Wiseau's 2003 film The Room. However, he has moved on since then and has written a book, The Disaster Artist, in addition to being in a number of films, including the upcoming film, Infrared, which is now available for streaming this year. While most may write the film off due to Greg's association with The Room, this film shouldn't be ignored.

I really enjoyed the performances of Greg Sestero and Jesse Janzen. Jesse gave a vibrant performance as Wes and energized every scene he's in. He perfectly portrayed the host of an amateur paranormal investigation show. However, the true star of the film is Greg Sestero as Geoff. He perfectly played the affable nature of a school teacher and Greg himself has so much natural charisma that I wanted to see more of him. Compared to his acting in The Room, this is a major improvement. Finally, Leah Finity, while not as outgoing as the other three, was also very likeable as Izzy and acted as a good foil to Wes.

My biggest gripe with the film was its pacing. The film's runtime added up to about an hour and a half, however, the beginning moved at a snail's pace. I understand it was introducing characters and setting up the stage of what's to happen, however, I felt it could've been done in a bit more of an interesting manner. Additionally, there are several scenes that could've been shortened down, for example, the séance conducted by Izzy. Another small nitpick I had with the film was Sarah's demonic voice near the film's beginning. It sounded too robotic and voice changer-esque.

With that said, the film excelled at building tension and intrigue. The film, similar to The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and many other great horror films, is a slow burn where you would have incredible difficulty pinpointing when the film's tension starts. And it manages to do this with very few jump scares, which were well-integrated into the film. The tension was further helped by the characters being both engaging and charismatic. With this, I actually had some investment in where the story went, something that many other found-footage films fail to do, including both Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity.

Overall, Infrared is an engaging film that breathes new life into not only the horror genre, but also the found-footage subgenre. With great performances by Greg Sestero, Jesse Janzen and Leah Finity, along with an amazing buildup of tension, Infrared is a must-see film for horror fans!

Are people watching the same film?
MrMovieHuh8 August 2022
Looking through reviews here, it seems everyone jumps to "worst movie ever" on imdb if they don't like something. I think people don't have an attention span anymore.

I see complaints of this being slow and boring, and that "nothing is happening" and can't help but wonder what movie they were watching. Sure this film leans more into the drama than the horror, but that's why this film works for me. We actually care about the characters before the inevitable jump scares kick in.

The acting is way above the standard quality I'm used to seeing in Found Footage films, so that's a plus. And sure, Sestero comes across as a tad hammy, but he's fun, so I just went along for his wacky ride. The opening exorcism is also questionable but it's also unclear as to whether it's intentionally that way and meant to be a fake set-up by Wes for his show, which keeps things interesting.

Overall, it's nice to see filmmakers treating the audience as if they're not dumb. Ignore anyone telling you not to watch this, and make up your own mind. It takes you on a fun journey.

Genuinely Imaginative
marcjr878 August 2022
I love it when filmmakers have strong sense of direction and tone within the found-footage film canon. Not to mention, this movie does what many struggle to do and blends two genres together seamlessly. What an absolute hoot!

Full of innovation, Improv, and creative freedom.
mcdonald-samuel711 August 2022
The fact that the majority of this film is improvisation... wow! That alone makes me respect this project to no end. A great addition to the found-footage genre/filming technique. As someone who does not typically watch thriller/horror/jump scare type films, Infrared has given me renewed hope to pursue these types of films more in the future.
