Sweet little movie
Psy-Ko1 January 2024
I liked it. It's the kind of movie to watch when you want to be reminded of the good in the world. Yes it's a bit simplistic, yes it's not a multi million budget or A+ actors, but it's sweet and it makes you feel good and what's wrong with that???

I laugh at the reviewers saying the kid didn't portray autism well. First off Autism is a spectrum and people at one end of the sprectrum are nothing like those at the other end, and then you have all those inbetween. Secondly, the kid who plays Tyson is actually on the spectrum so he probably knows a bit better than you.

So yeah, if you're looking for a movie thats gonna blow you away and have you talking about it for weeks, this probably ain't it. But if you just want to pass some time, cheer for a hero and feel good when you turn off the tv give it a shot.

Poor acting
ilovefoodcoma13 March 2022
An inspiring movie to have determination & faith to reach your goal. However, the script is poorly done, the directing is amateur & the acting is so awkward.

It seems like a low budget movie with so-so actors.

Very robotic script, but a good story
samuelzackt13 March 2022
The previews honestly played this out to be like it would be a big hit, but it fell short. The script is very robotic as if it were a high school musical, but without the music. I understand the character has autism, however, the rest of the script is simple, one or two worded lines, and honestly I was struggling to stay awake.

It's a good story because it's true, but in a few weeks, I'll probably forget I even saw this movie, not to mention wanting to rewatch it at a later point in time.

Decent family movie
mackarron18 April 2024
I watched this movie in Spanish and the voice actors did a decent job at potraying the actors, but for Tyson sometimes he sounded robotic and with a few microphone 'pops', i don't think this how the original movie sounded.

Overall i was hooked from start to finish and invested in Tyson's journey.

Story: It's decent and is focused on a young teenager; Tyson which has autism and decides that would like to go to a normal school instead of being home schooled by his mother, there he meets people who are understanding of his condition; students and teachers.

Most importantly he makes a new friend who sparks in Tyson a passion for marathon running.

Acting: The acting is decent, ok... but there are times where they don't act very good and the person i noticed of doing this the more was Tyson's father; he's too serious and i never saw him smile in situations where he should've, everyone else was fine in my opinion.

Script: Good but oftentimes it lead to characters overreacting, you can see that in Tyson's mother where she often seems unreasonable with her husband over very important points.

Sound / Visuals: The visuals are cristal clear, specially in the school but there are no outstanding shots, soundwise nothing remarkable either since not a lot is going on; either characters talk or there is some kind of montage.

Almost but not quite there

Warning: Spoilers
There is so much to like about this movie. I adore the cast and think they all do a great job of giving good performances. I love the idea of a son trying to earn his father's respect and the idea of a father trying to come to grips with his failures as a father and mother trying to be strong for both of them. There is a lot to like about this movie, but where it loses me is the ending.

Spoiler alert don't go any further if you don't want to know the ending.

It's not my movie so it's not fair for me to say what should've happened, but I will tell you what I wanted to happen. I wanted. Tyson to understand that crossing the finish line is a victory. Finishing a marathon is a victory. You don't have to be in first place you don't have to be top 10 in your age group the accomplishment itself of training and meeting a goal a victory that all of us need to remember to shoot for. By having the race and the way it does I feel like it cheapens the story ends with a Bible verse, which is good but I like this one a little bit better. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us" (Heb. 12:1).

Not worth your time
ann-sayeedi13 March 2022
The writers/director of this movie know little about autism or even marathon running. Poor writing and acting overall. The acting is wooden-sometimes I found myself laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of the dialogue. Autism is complex and this movie unfortunately portrays autism in a stereotypical fashion. The concept of the movie is fantastic-the makers could have done so much more with the challenges of running a marathon coupled with the realistic challenges of someone on the spectrum. Good intentions don't come remotely close to saving this movie.

I want my 1.75 hours back!
imdb-4476116 October 2022
My incredulity for how bad this movie is can only be matched by my incredulity that people actually like it.

The writing is positively lazy. It's the kind of plot a 5th grader would write. The acting is slightly better at 'high school play' level.

This is NOT a true story. At all. Not even close. Not even an element here and there. Some cursory research shows that this movie was 'inspired' by something said to the writer/director by a kid in his son's school. A non-autistic child, mind you:

'I know I'm fast, but all the other boys are super fast. So I don't want to run anymore.'

And from that sentence....and only that sentence....this insult to film was born.

In real life, there is no underage autistic marathoner with a reluctant father. No jackass mayor. No school bullies. No high school sweetheart. And certainly no miraculous marathon win.

But the writer director couldn't stop at making up the mundane. Aside from many, many things that are impossible, let's look at that marathon performance. He didn't just win the marathon. He ran down elite marathoners from a mile behind with 6 miles to go. Some quick math shows that he would have to run faster than any human has ever run a 6 mile race....after already running 20 miles....in order to accomplish that feat.

Please stop saying this is a true story, or based on a true story, or even inspired by a true story. This film is garbage. This film is an insult to the viewers intelligence. If you find this to be a 'true inspiring story', then you should watch Star Wars and be inspired to be a Jedi master that can move things with your mind. Both films are equally true.

Not sure why there's some haters out there.. this is a lovey film. It pushes all the right character / story buttons. The acting is good, it's nice to see the familiar faces and some new ones.

This movie might be less than 1 star
koz-1880422 March 2024
My wife and I laughed at how poorly this movie is made.

The acting is more stale than 2 week rock hard bread.

Shots seem to run about 2 seconds too long to add to the cringe.

When it comes to Tysons running it makes the whole movie that much more sad. The dude can't run. He looks like he's about to fall over from pain whenever they show it.

The dad played by Rory Cochrane seemed to be doing his best batman impression the whole movie. His voice is single tone and his face never shows anything other than apathy. Probably regretting his decision to even be apart of this movie.

Random and pointless use of greenscreen was laughable.

Run away from this movie faster than the sub 4 minute mile they want you to believe tyson can run.

Kim Bass should be ashamed for this atrocity.

Although big plus for inclusion in this movie.

Garbage
bennygreer17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a collegiate distance runner, this was extremely hard to watch. The running was so unrealistic. The best marathon runners in the world would not split a 4:00 mile consecutively in the last 2 miles of the race. Eluid Kipchoge and Kelvin Kiptum are the greatest marathoners to ever live and their marathon pace is 4:36 per mile average. Couldn't they at least get actors that actually know how to run properly and realistically. Jakob ingebrigsten has the 2 mile world record and it's barely under 4:00 per mile pace.

The acting and script seems AI generated. Everything was all over the place. Why were rattle snakes in the middle of a rainstorm? Don't they live in dry environments? The portrayal of autism in this movie is stereotypical and shows that the writers and director do not know anything about autism or distance running.

Inspirational

This movie had me crying honestly. I don't get why so many people are hating on it. As an autistic person myself I related to a lot of things the main character had experienced in the movie. The race makes me think of a metaphor that goes along the lines of "do things and your pace" or "don't rush yourself to catch up with everyone else." I love how they have accurate Autism Representation in this movie. I have a boyfriend that acts almost exactly like the main character and he is autistic himself. The whole movie had me so emotional and so invested. I can't understand why others are calling the acting bad. The acting almost felt entirely real. I would definitely recommend watching especially if you struggle with autism yourself.

Quality below a typical after-school special
huskerdooo1 May 2022
Poor acting and and a poor script combine to make this a poor example of an after-school special like those from the late 70's. Totally uninspired and an insult to the movie business. How this is rated above a 4 is beyond me.

Tyson's Cinematic Universe begins here!!
legendsspeedshop14 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am not a fan of overly "feel good" movies where everything always seems to go right in the end for the protagonist. You know the films where as soon as you sit down you know exactly how it's going to end. That is what I expected when I bought my tickets for this movie. Now that being said ..... Kim Bass steps to the plate and knocks it out of the park with Tyson's Run! Major Dodson takes you on a journey of the life of a young man as he navigates thru high school , family , and his community while dealing with all the challenges of being on the autism spectrum. Seeing Tyson take on the challenges he must face, with such valor was amazing to watch on screen. As I waited for the antagonist to be revealed in this movie I soon realized that role was occupied by nearly every person in his life. This gave the viewer a real insight to the struggles people with autism most deal with on a day to day basis. For Tyson the solution is simple ...RUN!

Spoiler ......... Stay for the end credit scene!

Poor acting, poor character portrayal, unrealistic
brandtvcanada17 March 2024
The days of portraying the mean kid in school as that stereotypical bully has passed. Unrealistic villain portrayals really take this good intentioned movie off the rails. Alot of the rolling out the eyes here. The father's and mother's character development was terrible in it's unrealistic acting and portrayal as well. Ugh. The actress who played the mother was not at all close to a decent performance. Cringy. Maybe it had more to do with directing, because someone should have said...."uh redo everything"

The writing also doesn't do the story justice. This is a really bad after school special.

I let this one run 30-minutes too long
TheDome8115 March 2024
What an absolutely dreadful movie. I was reluctant going into it. It had a cheesy sound to it but I figured since t was a true story, it might be tolerable. Well, it wasn't. I've read that it's actually not a true story. Not even based on actual events. That's pretty pathetic.

But not as pathetic as the writing. It has just about every cliche in the book. And then some. Wow. But the lousy writing was surpassed only by the terrible acting. Every person in this nightmare was lousy. The characters were all one-dimensional. Especially the dad. He only had one emotion. Crabby. And the mom's "Southern" accent came and went. Give it up folks.

Do yourself a favor and skip this one. There are so many other ways to spend your time.

The main point of this film is the thousands--or millions--

Warning: Spoilers
. . . of brains that could be saved from multiple concussions, decay and ultimate ruin if all of America's football players quit the grid iron cold turkey, as Georgia's all-time leading winner coach does here, and take up marathon running instead. TYSON'S RUN documents how all the latter sport requires is a pair of sneakers and a few inspirational verses from the Good Book to rise from couch potato to world champ in a month or two. Some viewers may quibble that picturing a jogger tooling along at eight-minute mile pace at best while claiming that he's actually running sub-four minute miles at the very end of his teenage marathon debut is implausible, but just think back to football for a moment: If Green Bay's quarterback dude sees one wide receiver candidate run a four second something 40 at the all-important Combine, and a second potential Packer end can quote the Holy Scriptures and clock in with an eight-second plus 40, Rogers will say "Draft the church goer" every time.

Not based on a true story as advertised, and completely ignorant of how to run
malmevik778 April 2024
Tyson's Run

A movie that was advertised as based on a true story, Tyson's Run focuses on an autistic teenager trying to gain his distant father's love by winning a marathon. I chose to watch it for that exact reason.

First of all, it's not at all based on a true story. The creator even said so. Certain streaming services and news sources gave incorrect information. Secondly, they clearly don't know anything about running, or marathon training. It was embarrassing to watch.

However, as a family drama, it was pretty well acted. A father being disappointed that he has a special needs child is not an uncommon thing. An autistic teenager wanting to go to a real school instead of being home schooled by an overprotective mother is also not uncommon.

The best part is that the actor cast to play Tyson is in fact, autistic, which is it gets 3 stars instead of 1. However, it's slightly diminished that the filmmaker didn't know that until after he was cast. Autistic characters should be played by autistic people, for representation and for accuracy. The fact that he didn't know the actor was autistic meant that a major faux pas could have been made.

I really can't recommend this movie at all. The family drama, as I mentioned, is heartwarming to see the father and son grow closer, but that doesn't deserve 100 minutes. And the running part is just unforgivable. I'm amazed they knew it was 26.2 miles; it really was that stupid.

One of the best inspirational movies out there. Don't listen to another review yhe actress and actors are each good in this . Amy Smart, the Tyson actor and the shoe store owner was awesome. I watched this with a 12 year old and 9 year old. My 12 year old did want to turn this off. I would have if given a chance payed to see this but it was on Pureflixs where we seen this. This had us laughing, crying, cheering and wanting to knock some noggin. You would think in this day and age people would know more. To see how many treated him and his parents was just awful. The ignorance is real people. The school if any of what happen really did really needed some real lessons.

Poor writing, bad acting and just plain bad
seckard6724 March 2024
This movie is so incredibly poorly done. It's hard to tell if the acting is incredibly bad, or if the writing is just so ridiculously egregious that the actors had nothing to work with. The entire movie has the melodramatic undertone, with 0 subtlety or nuance. It slams you over the head with constant cliches. Don't waste your time. From the first scene you feel the religious undertones and it feels like a low budget, poorly written, almost saccharine in its effort to bring home some message. The directing is equally bad. Everything about this movie is just awkward which makes it painful to watch. The subject matter, held promise, but everyone involved with this movie did not do it justice.

Good Try; No Medal - Tyson's Run
arthur_tafero20 October 2022
Unfortunately, this is not a film about the career of Mike Tyson, which I am very sure, would have been far more interesting than this bland piece of Hollywood inspiration. The problem with this film is both in the plot and in its execution. The plot is a bit convoluted, and takes away from our primary concern for the protagonist, an autistic boy who attempts to become a marathon runner. That was a noble idea by the writer, but the ball is fumbled by trying to add a subplot that does not work too well. And amateur acting has a lot to with that result. The boy is fine, but the supporting cast is...a bit grating on the nerves. Good try, but no medal.

Tyson's Run
amybooksy26 June 2022
I enjoyed watching Tyson's Run. It is one of those feel good type of movies that is based on a true story and will inspire many. I love the message of faith and courage. I loved that Tyson is the unlikely hero of the movie. It was beautiful how a few people who refused to judge him and helped him gain confidence, be accepted and have the determination to not quit. His story is so heartwarming that so many of us can relate to and so many others can learn from.

I am giving Tyson's Run four and a half stars. I recommend it for families who are looking for a way to spend a family movie night. Wonderful story to watch over and over.

Lacks Effort and Acting
Vietnamjed27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I want to preface this by saying that I am a teacher who works with autistic kids, and a cross country coach. This movie should be right up my alley.

I was so so so let down by this movie!

The premise is solid, autistic boy, who is the Son of the football coach struggles to fit in at high school. One day he sees an African runner going around the track and decides to run with him. They discover that he has a natural talent for running. The boy really wants to run in his town's first ever marathon race. Of course, there are plenty of people who say he cannot do it, however, he trains and better prepares himself for the grueling race.

This idea is fine..

But, that's where the good ideas end. The story attempts to create nothing but obstacles. Many of them completely uncalled for. It's like the writer and Director felt they could only get about 10 minutes out of Aartistic boy training for a marathon, so they completely go off the rails with these far-fetched premises, and completely unlikable characters.

The mayor doesn't want him to enter the race because it would draw attention from the race and the town.. excuse me?

This is just one of many improbable and poorly executed ideas.

PS.. this kid is apparently the fastest runner in the world. Prepare yourself for this 🙄

This is a solid do not watch movie.

Storyline promising, writing, performances, and quality are anything but
JSG475621 April 2024
Even though a couple of my favorite actors are here they cannot save this movie from being anything but bad. It is apparent this was very low budget, at least I hope it was, perhaps someones passion project. My guess is it was produced very quickly and the actors for whatever reason lacked any real preparation to become their characters. It was as if they were filming the first rehearsals and calling it good enough.

Yes the message is sweet and I enjoy a nice feel good movie but there still has to enough quality to make it worth watching. This was just too painful to watch for more than a few minutes at a time. Even trying to limit the awfulness by fast forwarding to another scene proved not enough to keep going. It is one of those rare movies that is so bad I removed it from my "continue to watch list" so I never have to see it in my feed again.
