Neon Magazine's 1000 Essential Movies On Video
by nanch | created - 04 Sep 2012 | updated - 08 Sep 2012 | PublicOriginally a free book that came packed with the November 1997 issue of Neon Magazine which was divided into 100 Categories, with 10 movies listed in each category.
The book has always had a place in my heart, ever since I pinched it out of the videostore where I worked in the late 90s. There's some real hidden gems listed.
*NOTE* There are a number of double listings throughout the list, probably mistakes in the original book. The grand total of movies listed came to 995. The double listed titles are:
The Elephant Man (1980) listed in both "The Depressing Movies" & "London Movies" categories.
Network (1976) listed in both "Journalist Movies" & "Movies About TV" categories.
Hardware (1990) listed in both "Robot Movies" & "Post Apocalyptic Movies" categories.
Vanishing Point (1971) listed in both "Chase Movies" & "Road Movies" categories.
Crimson Tide (1995) listed in both "Cold War Movies" & "Water Movies (Sinking" categories.
