Something About Her Faces Major Hiccup On Opening Day
Vanderpump Rules fans have been waiting for Something About Her to open since Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney first came up with the idea. This was a proposal Katie shared with Ariana in Season 9. Back then, their former partners, Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz were working on the bar Schwartz & Sandy’s. Katie really wanted a purpose and she had always dreamed of a sandwich shop, possibly with her now ex-husband, Schwartz. When she brought it up to Ariana,...

During a decade of American disillusionment, a series of films, from Seconds to What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, represented a culture cracking up
In assembling a slate of films, a programming team or other curatorial body will often be made to answer the question of why now, what relevance old art has to the current moment. In the case of the Criterion Channel’s new series Hollywood Crack-Up: The Decade American Cinema Lost Its Mind, a sampling of arthouse hysteria from across the 60s, the argument all but makes itself. These bursts of celluloid madness come from a not-so-remote time when governmental credibility had hit an all-time low and the culture-war rift yawned wider than ever; when the disillusionment of a mistreated youth generation exploded into student protests against an overseas war colored by unsavory political imperatives; when ascendant minority groups demanded rights and dignity in the face of...

Exclusive: Following a competitive situation with what we hear were four offers, TriStar Pictures has snapped up film rights to Wesley Wang’s nothing, except everything., a short film that Wang will adapt for the big screen as writer and director, with Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa producing.
A 19-year-old currently studying economics at Harvard, Wang made nothing, except everything. during his senior year of high school, seeing it go viral on YouTube and win the Grand Jury Prize at Indianapolis’s Indy Shorts Film Festival. Billed as a romantic sci-fi thriller, the film watches as a graduating high schooler navigates a world of seemingly inevitable chaos by finding order in the number 7. Based on that logline, it’s not hard to see how Harvard alum Aronofsky might have sparked to the material, similar as it is to that of his 1998 debut feature, Pi.

Donald Trump‘s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was set to embark on a series of speaking events in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in July last year. Yet the tour has been plagued by continuous postponements, which has led to frustration among fans who await refunds.
The Down Under tour, which promised to draw large crowds, has faced numerous delays since its initial announcement. It was first rescheduled from July to September, then pushed back again to December and now lacks a confirmed date for the future.
The tour, originally advertised as a “landmark” event, featured former U.K. Independence Party leader Nigel Farage and Liberal senator Alex Antic as special guests. General admission tickets for the event ranged from $59 for students or concession holders to $89 for the general public. A high-priced private dinner event, priced at $2500, included a pre-show dinner with Trump Jr., a champagne reception, and front-row seating.

Jenelle Evans is back at it on social media again. In recent months, the former Teen Mom 2 star has made headlines for child custody issues and her husband’s criminal behavior. While her son, Jace Evans, is being moved around in the foster care system, Jenelle is trying to compare herself to Gypsy Rose Blanchard. She is on a smear campaign against her mother, Barbara Evans, and followers are calling her out in the comments. Still, she’s doubling down on her claims that she’s suffered the same type of childhood abuse as Blanchard.
Jenelle Evans compared herself to Gypsy Rose Blanchard earlier this week
Jenelle Evans has again taken aim at her mother, Barbara Evans. Her current accusations are among the most serious she’s ever made. In a Facebook comment, Jenelle claimed that her mother was just like Dee Dee Blanchard and that she was just like Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

From a script written by Floyd, “Unicorns” is described as a “visually daring and heartfelt portrayal of modern masculinity” and follows a queer South Asian club performer living a double life who meets a straight, single-father mechanic, with whom unexpected sparks begin to fly. “We are thrilled to have Signature bring ‘Unicorns’ to U.K. and Irish cinemas where we know audiences will enjoy our unique, timely, but above all entertaining film,” said El-Hosaini and Floyd.

Viewers of Merry Little Batman meet Damian Wayne as the lovable scamp who chases his cat Selina through the halls of stately Wayne Manor, decked in a blanket for a cape and a brown paper bag for a cowl, just like his dear old dad, Batman. The delightful holiday special imagines Damian as a good-hearted soul who wants nothing more than to be like his pop, and doesn’t even get too upset at his father’s overprotective demands. When the Joker returns to Gotham while Batman is trapped in the Arctic, Damian gets his chance to prove that he deserves to be called “Son of the Bat.”
But comic book readers first met Damian under very different circumstances. In a 1987 graphic novel by Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham, Batman reluctantly joins forces with eco-terrorist Ra’s al Ghul to take down the assassin Quain. During the alliance, Batman...

Although his name might be unfamiliar to a young generation of moviegoers, John Cassavetes was a giant in raising the profile of independent film in America. As a young man, after enrolling in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he took on small parts in films and appeared in episodic television until he picked up a camera and exploded onto the indie film scene with his 1959 film “Shadows.” From there, he went on to write and direct “Faces” (1968), which earned three Oscar nominations and eventually to 1974’s “A Woman Under the Influence,” which starred his wife Gena Rowlands (whom he met at the American Academy) in arguably her most triumphant performance. Cassavetes is such an important figure in independent cinema that every year, the Independent Spirit Awards present the John Cassavetes Award to the year’s best film that cost less than $500,000.

Charity Changing Faces has written to the chief content officers at a range of streamers and broadcasters such as Netflix U.K., Amazon Prime Video, BBC IPlayer and Apple TV urging them to include a disclaimer on their horror films featuring villains with visible differences this Halloween.
Penned by Changing Faces CEO Heather Blake, the letter says: “Every year, Halloween becomes a particularly stressful time for some of those with visible differences, where villainous film characters with scars, marks, burns or conditions are often recreated as costumes, as well as becoming terms of abuse in everyday life.”
She adds that the charity is not asking for the streaming platforms to remove horror films featuring villains with visible differences but to include a note in the film’s description and add a disclaimer on screen that such characters “reinforce negative stereotypes.”

Melania Trump has remained quiet amid her husband’s string of legal woes. The former first lady does not seem to be acting any differently as Donald Trump faces his latest indictment in Georgia, for which he took a mugshot last month.
Melania is not easily upset by her husband’s actions.
The former first lady is busy with her son and reportedly not spending a lot of time watching the media circus over her husband’s indictments.
As the former president continues his campaign for the 2024 presidential election, Melania has stayed out of the spotlight and remained focused on her 17-year-old son, Barron.
Despite Melania’s calm demeanor, she reportedly shares her husband’s views that most of the indictments brought against him are intended to stop his political campaign by his rivals.
Some observers have suggested that Melania is using her husband’s legal troubles to renegotiate her prenup.

If you thought the chances of the Duffy Wrestling League succeeding would increase on Heels Season 2, the latest trailer will probably dash those hopes.
Starz on Monday unveiled a new sneak peek at the next chapter of the Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig drama, and it teases lots of tension for everyone involved.
The premium cabler previously teased the second season with a trailer earlier this month, but the latest footage hints at plenty of big swings in the storytelling department.
Heels Season 1 was a big success story, and with fans waiting almost two years for fresh episodes, there are high expectations to deliver a satisfying follow-up season.
A small-town sports drama series based on a wrestling league in rural Georgia, Heels is aptly named after the wrestling term for a villain or antagonist.
"Most stories center around heroes vs. villains, but in wrestling, it's faces vs. heels," the logline teases.

Gena Rowlands is the Ocar-nominated thespian who made a name for herself thanks to a series of manic, high-wire performances in several films, many of them directed by her late husband, indie maverick John Cassavetes. But how many of her titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of Rowlands’s greatest films, ranked worst to best.
After making a name for herself with bit parts onstage and onscreen, Rowlands flourished when she became the muse of Cassavetes, who she married in 1954. A fellow performer, Cassavetes would raise money from appearing in movies like “The Dirty Dozen” (1967) and “Rosemary’s Baby” (1968), immediately funneling the funds into his own projects. His wife was usually front and center, as were their family members and friends.
Rowlands’s operatic performances were a perfect match for her husband’s improvisational, energetic films, including “Faces” (1968), “Minnie and Moskowitz” (1971), “Opening Night” (1977) and “Love Streams” (1984). Her...

Barbie Ferreira, one of the breakouts from HBO’s Euphoria, and Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery are set to star in Faces of Death, a reimagining of the 1978 cult horror movie being made by Legendary.
Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the team behind the 2018 psychological thriller Cam and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, are writing and directing, respectively, the reimagining.
Made just as home video was taking off, Faces had the conceit of a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. In reality, most of the death scenes were staged, but the film had the exact effect its producers desired: outrage, revulsion, banning (although not in 52 countries, as hyped by the film’s makers) and, of course, minting money.

Ronnie Wood found worldwide fame with The Rolling Stones, but he was a well-known musician who played with world-class musicians before that. He stole a bass and played it in the Jeff Beck Group. Playing Guitar alongside Rod Stewart in Faces came next. Though known, he wasn’t Rolling Stones famous yet, and Wood got kicked out of his apartment as he was trying to be a friend to Jimi Hendrix and his dog.

Wood’s commitments and Hendrix’s career kept both guitarists busy. Yet they hung out in the same circles outside of gigs, and they also shared a living space.
As Wood writes in his autobiography Ronnie, he and Hendrix lived in soul singer P.P. Arnold’s building in London.

Film and TV productions in Germany have come back with gusto following the three-month Covid-19 lockdown earlier this year, albeit under stringent health protection requirements.
Despite a second lockdown in November due to the rise in coronavirus cases, shooting continues around the country, both in studios and on location. Warners’ “Matrix 4,” Sony’s “Uncharted,” Apple TV Plus’ “Foundation” and the Netflix pic “Munich” are among the big international productions that have recently shot in Germany.
At Studio Babelsberg, “Matrix 4” and “Uncharted” recently wrapped after being initially shut down in March. “We are happy that we were able to carry out both productions without any major incidents in the very difficult period after the lockdown and that everything went wonderfully,” says Studio Babelsberg COO Christoph Fisser.

Before becoming a filmmaker, Leaving Las Vegas director Mike Figgis was a musician and performer in the experimental group called The People Show. Before that, he played trumpet and guitar in the experimental jazz ensemble The People Band, whose first record was produced by Rolling Stone drummer Charlie Watts. He is also the founding patron of an online community of independent filmmakers called Shooting People. You can say Figgis is a People person, which makes him the perfect director to capture Ronnie Wood in the documentary Somebody Up There Likes Me.
One of rock and roll’s most iconic guitarists, Wood is good with people. He plays well with others. He is the Stone who’s never alone. Before he began weaving guitar licks with Keith Richards in the Rolling Stones, Wood helped shape the British rock sound in bands like The Birds and the Creation. He was the bass...

Clemency (Chinonye Chukwu)
From Escape from Alcatraz to Cool Hand Luke to The Shawshank Redemption, cinema is rich with not only prison films focused on the plight of the prisoner, but also depicting wardens in an evil light. Clemency, winner of the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival, flips the script in both ways, both turning the spotlight on a warden and painting her in an empathetic, complicated light. Led by Alfre Woodard, she gives a riveting, emotional performance as the Bernadine Williams, a woman who is stuck between the demands of her grueling job and a disintegrating marriage, and can’t give her all to both.

The films of John Cassavetes are an acquired taste. Long considered to be the father of the modern independent film movement, his unorthodox style to acting and filmmaking notoriously drove some of his performers crazy while also receiving kudos and accolades from others. Fans looking for escapism provided by professional and collegiate sports will sadly have to survive off highlights and reruns in interim as coronavirus has shut down the industry for the foreseeable future.
Before we can look forward to the resumption of our favorite sports, documentary filmmaker Ken Burns wants us to look back at his magnum opus, Baseball, the Emmy-winning nine-part 1994 miniseries. Burn’s love letter to America’s Pastime is now available to watch for free on PBS.org and all PBS streaming platforms while the baseball world is on hiatus from spring training and indefinitely delayed the start of the regular season.
“This is a difficult time for all of us,” Burns said in a video statement. “We’re worried about the health of our kids, our families, our friends and neighbors, and the vitality and safety of our communities. It’s also a time we realize, more than ever,...

Considering we are no longer getting a James Bond film this spring, those seeking slick espionage thrills will get a healthy dose (and much more of the unexpected) with The Whistlers, the latest work from Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu, which is now in theaters. Clearly inspired by a number of noir films, today we’re taking a more general look at his favorite movies of all-time.
As voted on in the latest Sight & Sound poll, as well as a recent feature from our friends at Le Cinéma Club, his picks range include a healthy range of world cinema, from Apichatpong Weerasethakul to Michelangelo Antonioni to Éric Rohmer to Yasujirô Ozu. “All of them influenced my way of making movies and also my way of seeing world,” he said of the majority of the selections. Speaking about La Dolce Vita, he added, “I watched it by chance when I was 18 years old.

General Hospital fans are not sure Jason is joking. He’s got a warning to deliver to those around him, and it is nothing short of a totally serious warning. Things are very ugly in Salem right now, and no one can believe what is going on. But this is a direct threat against the friends that Jason considers family, and he is not going to sit here and allow anyone else to mess with him like this one. There is nothing that will work for any of them outside of all of this, and it’s a mess. They have to

Trampled by Turtles will release a new digital covers Ep on Friday. Cheekily titled Sigourney Fever, the project includes the roots band’s unique renditions of songs by Neil Young, Iris DeMent, Warren Zevon, Radiohead, and the Faces.
Ahead of the Ep’s release, the group premieres their take on “Ooh La La,” the nostalgic 1973 singalong from the Faces. Trampled by Turtles follow the lead of the influential U.K. bar band by enlisting bass player Tim Saxhaug to handle lead vocals instead of singer Dave Simonett — the Faces’ original...

The fall season has been strong for specialty films heading for Oscars, with “Harriet” (Focus), “Judy” (Roadside Attractions), “Parasite” (Neon), and “Jojo Rabbit” (Fox Searchlight) leading the way before the Thanksgiving holiday. With mainstream studio fare like “Ford v Ferrari” (20th Century Fox) and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (Universal) also pulling the same smart moviegoers, it’s harder for late openers to grab a foothold in this crowded market.
While Todd Haynes’ “Dark Waters,” like A24’s “Waves” last weekend, opened at lower levels than these earlier films, Focus is positioning the film right before the long holiday period, with a possible boost from positive word of mouth, and strong support. Both “Dark Waters” and “Waves” could gain some awards attention, but they are coming from behind.
