Fun Film
29 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I was expecting this film to be extremely cringe worthy, but I held out until the end and for some reason, even the crappy video quality didn't make me turn it off.

Sure most of the actors were bad, but you could tell most of them had probably never acted before, or have had little experience. But for that, I still thought they were okay, there were enough 'good' actors to carry the bad ones through the film. I didn't watch this movie expecting Dawn of the Dead, or 28 days later, this is a seriously low budget flick with great special effects which deserves some love, even for that (Avatar anyone?). I'm sure if the director had more money to play with, and some decent writers, it would have been even more kick-ass.

I also thought it was clever where they ended the film... I mean, I don't really care if the two protagonists survived or not, but they finished off before the screaming and the crying and the blood got too much. Well at least for me anyway. There's only so much screaming I can take before my brain shuts off.

Overall, we've seen it all before, though, but hey... There can never be enough zombie movies. Or at least don't let the creators of Twilight make a joke out of them as well...

Halloween II (2009)
7/10
A good film for the Halloween series.
23 April 2011
This wasn't at all like a Halloween sequel, in a sense it was more personal and contained less Hollywood cliché's which more often than not, plague the horror genre.

Of course, one could say this film was just another cliché, but it had depth to it, and character development and a story one could relate to or become repulsed by. The first half hour or so gives you the impression the movie is going to be another about some girl running away screaming from some masked character wielding a sharp object, conveniently slipping over and eventually perishing at the hands of this lunatic.

Zombie drags things out, something which I admire him for, he doesn't rush his plot to reach a dead-line, he takes his time to polish his art, because lets face it, it's going to be apart of his reputation for the rest of his career.

The only downsides for me, was the wild nature of the main character, I couldn't sympathize with her all that well as she was always doing something which made her annoying, bluntly put.

I was also a little unsure of the unmasking of MM, his face has always been behind someone else's that it was kind of difficult to grasp that he was actually a human being, and not just a character. But in a way it works, but it is also unrealistic, as how can a human being get shot in the head and walk miles and miles to find his young sister? Either way, a good, entertaining horror flick. Not as many jump in your seat moments, but I appreciate Zombie's style and his ability to create a film which is art and not just another Hollywood Cliché.

The Mad (2007)

A fun way to spend a couple of hours.
27 November 2010
This isn't the best zombie movie, not the best zomedy either, and I wasn't really expecting it to be, but it was a fun little ride, and surprisingly had a decent structure of originality separating it from other zombie films plaguing the ever increasing genre.

Billy Zane held this movie throughout and provided some seemingly improvised laughs which made the atmosphere light hearted. It wasn't a film to make you scared, just a little grossed out with an extra smile on your face.

I thought the camera work was very decent. The sound effects as well as visual effects were top notch, the only problem I really had with the movie was the script and that it faltered continuously which I think was the only reason this movie took a low rating. I felt Billy Zane's instinctual acting experience almost completely made him avoid this pot hole, but unfortunately the other actors seemed to just follow suit and act their way to the finish line. I wasn't seeing characters, I was seeing people acting and sometimes not that greatly.

Besides Billy Zane (who seems to polish up a dirty script, even if he is the sole memorable presence of the film) another actor which I thought did extremely well was Maggie Castle. In this film, acting experience obviously pays off, but the cast shouldn't have to construct the film. That's the film makers and the screenwriters position.

Of course I'm just an armchair expert, I have no experience in the process of film making apart from the countless 'making of's' I have watched as well as thousands of movies. But it doesn't take a film director or an actor or a screenwriter to claim whether or not their movie is good, it should be left to the audience who get that untainted first view without reminiscence of the actual process of making the movie.

Overall score 5/10 -- It was fun!

A beautiful love story, tainted by typical Hollywood cinema.
21 November 2010
I'm not normally a romantic, nor do I enjoy romance films from Hollywood with superficial plot-lines and mediocre messages, but I am a sucker for an interesting tale and the 'art' of two people falling in love.

This story built so much emotion I felt as though I was about to burst, and it was almost perfect.

The ending (in my opinion) was a complete mockery, an over the top homage to American romance cinema. The story was a tragic one, the characters were hopelessly detached from the rest of society, they had their quirks and I as the audience was entirely compelled by this emotional structure that evidently held the movie on a strong foundation.

Describing this movie I guess, I can only describe it as sex. It will start great and can end in only two ways, good or bad. Unfortunately for me the ending was unlimited. I was disappointed because the characters were perfect, the actors that portrayed these characters was also perfect, the story was perfect, the build up and brief releases was also perfect. I just think the writers got lost somewhere along the line, perhaps they didn't know how it should end and so they opted for the typical Hollywood romance.

I just know that if I were the one making this film, I would have finished it with the intense and beautiful simplicity of which it had begun with so the audience as well as the protagonists could experience the climatic experience of two remarkably strange individuals and their equally remarkably strange relationship experiencing some tragic closure.

Where's the punchline?
25 October 2010
I had reasonable expectations for this film to live up to it's reviews. Unfortunately it was a sheer disappointment, and the only time I enjoyed this benign crap fest was when I couldn't make out whether I was supposed to laugh or shut my eyes and dive for my blankets. There is nothing remotely serious about this film, I have no idea if that was the intentions of the filmmaker, and perhaps I need to see some of his earlier projects to fully grasp the taste of this one, but I shouldn't have to in order for the film to be relatable.

One thing which I thought flawed this movie incredibly well, was the relationships with the characters. There was no relationship, there was just a room full of actors pretending to be believable, they weren't feeling it and neither was I. I felt like I was watching a school project, it was cast badly, the script was tedious and dense. I felt as though I was watching another remake of the old classics, and unfortunately, I was, there isn't a thing special about Drag Me to Hell, it was simply a thoughtless creation, and a fun deprived ride.

A weak horror film.
24 May 2010
I was really disappointed at the end of this movie. I felt as though the director was trying to make a movie, but failed to in an interesting way.

None of the characters were interesting, well I do admit the only character I found interesting was the hitchhiker. I loved the way he was portrayed, and the way the actor was confident in his role enough to come out as a genuine loon. The rest of the cast, although they were good actors, the characters were poorly written, we didn't get to know them enough to form a temporary bond with them, therefore the movie fell flat around the 70 minute mark when I realized the director was only trying to fill his film with enough minutes to be classified as a movie.

Having let loose the bad foundation this movie has been built over, I can honestly say there are some terrific elements that has been a blueprint for the future horror genre. Not only was the chase scene between Leatherface and Sally terrifying, it was exhausting to watch and exhilarating to experience. This particular scene will be glued to my mind for a while, and for the first time in 10 years I woke up in the middle of the night after watching this movie, due to a nightmare about this one scene.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in my honest opinion, would have done just fine as a short film. It was okay as a full length movie, but the story was a terrible fault of which the horror had to make up for. A great horror movie has not only gore, violence and horror, a great horror movie has a captivating plot and likable characters with some thrills thrown into the blender. This unfortunately, was only half of what makes a great horror film.

Daybreakers (2009)
5/10
The day I went to the movies, then regretted it.
18 April 2010
Let me start this off with: It could have been so much more than what was deployed. Than what I had to sit through for an hour and a half only to find myself hating myself for not taking the previous day as a sign, when they wouldn't let me in to see it as I had forgotten I.D.

There were of course, some good aspects shimmering in the dullness that is Daybreakers. That would be Sam Neil, and a list of eye boggling special effects painted in a fine shade of translucent blue. A setting used primarily as a hook to reel in the audience and shade the horrendous script, and the pitiful acting in an attempt for people to side-step it like a dead body on the footpath.

This movie would have been lost down the hole of unsalvageable sci-fi movies, if it weren't for a certain fellow to whip out his fangs and start acting all mean and repulsive. That is of course the wonderfully talented Sam Neil, descending on a journey through a hellish movie about stereotypical vampires.

I did not feel anything at the end, but disappointment as it seeped into my brain and aggravated the tender hatred which had been brewing from the moment I started to realise I had wasted my $15. (Although, now I'm a little less hysterical)

The story had enough holes and flaws that if it were in fact a ship, it would have sunk as soon as it hit the water, leaving everyone on board to flail about and eventually drown in a sea of their own fractured ambitions. As I said before, this movie *could* have been something fantastic. It could have soared past my anticipation and settled on a throne before my stunned expression, but it only left me feeling cheated, and slightly disappointed by the genre which is horror combined with science fiction in the hopes of birthing an original film child. It did not, it birthed a monster as hideous as the winged creatures in this feature, feeding on the flesh *cough* money *cough*, of helpless human beings. With this delay, there is not much else that could have gone wrong. However there was, a strenuous list of problems I faced whilst trying to sit through Daybreakers, including: Acting, the script, the music score, and a complete lack of professionalism which eventually resulted in a poorly executed film. Yes I understand how incredibly complicated it is to make a movie, let alone one that stands out and reflects on it's own success. But there is a difference between someone with a straight-forward and humble goal when it comes to cinema. Someone who wants to create a terrific piece of art that they will feel proud of once they accomplished their dream. And then there is someone who see's a dollar sign on the horizon of the week their film is to be released. These differences infect the production of a film with a certain mode, a particular point of view from everyone on board the (holey) ship which delivers the movies to our screens.

I saw a little bit of both with Daybreakers, but unfortunately the dollar signs shimmered too brightly than the honest, humble film director, and in this fault, the out-come was initially a bad one.

I would suggest to anyone anticipating this movie, because of it's gloomy set and pale men with fangs, to wait until you can hire it out. There is no difference to a big screen, to your own portable television set when it comes to a bad movie such as Daybreakers.

On a side note, this has to be one of the few vampire movies I have seen, where it did not include half naked ladies sucking the life out of defenceless young men.

The Pledge (I) (2001)
9/10
This movie will not leave my mind.
1 April 2010
I cannot explain how much I liked this movie, because I cannot simply define my reasons. It is such a thrilling ride to take along side Mr. Nicholson's character Jerry Black as he literally goes crazy trying to find a killer who presumably has already been captured.

The amount of dedication and love delivered is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. There is never a moment where this lacks, and in my honest opinion it makes the film all the more captivating.

In some ways there are different stories tied into this one motion picture; There is Jerry, a retired cop working on a case, then there is Jerry, an overwhelmed man adopted into a beautiful family of which he feels is his responsibility to protect. The Pledge is conclusive, it is gripping and heart wrenching.

I can't say anything bad about this movie, because I literally feel as though it is a masterpiece.

Creep (I) (2004)
8/10
Completely underrated film from a terrific director
19 March 2010
I rented this movie after a few months of speculating whether it'll be worth it or not. Needless to say I really love this movie. It isn't just horror, it's a productive and very original story-line filled with characters you can care about which evolve a great deal as the story unravels.

It is spine tingling, slightly gruesome (maybe not enough for the rating), and above all else it is such a well put together movie; it fails to exclude the viewer. You are among the peers going through this horrible ordeal, a very unfortunate plot in the greatest horror-tific way.

The actors have considerable amounts of talent. They travelled through this movie with genuine emotions, they cared for each other and attempted to aid their fellow prisoners in an unmasked and unconditional way. This film is not mainstream. It isn't a horror movie which turns out to be a ghost story with a bunch of clueless teenagers who run really slowly and fall over everything that gets in their way. It is a genuine horror movie, it is filled with suspense, it has humour and it has romance. Without a doubt this film is one of the most successful and satisfying horror films of the decade.

The gloomy, translucent setting is superb, there are plenty of stunning scenes where you just feel completely entangled in the atmosphere.

The reason I love this film so much is because it didn't leave me feeling uncomfortable, it left me feeling slightly unnerved. There is a difference between comfort and fear of which I have found a lot of genre directors can't sense the barrier. You have good characters, you have a terrific script with clear and promising music, once you have that you have a good scary horror film of which someone could watch again. If you don't have that, the film is simple awkwardness with usually a truckload of blood and guts but no heart whatsoever.

Creep hit me in all the right places, it left me feeling the way a terrific horror movie should. Satisfied.

If I were Christopher Smith, I would be feeling exceptionally proud of myself for having built such a great movie.

A good watch with a seemingly satisfying climax.
14 March 2010
At first I had no idea this movie was filmed in New Zealand, and as a resident of the country myself; I know all too well the kind of productions that are delivered. Most of them unfortunately are a crap-fest.

However, with The Quiet Earth, I was very pleasantly surprised. The plot is original, it has never (in my geeky, sci-fi junkie knowledge) been done before. The camera work is superb, the way the movie is set out on a striking background makes this film all the more beautiful.

The plot is surprisingly simple, it does not involve a lot of consideration, which in my particular case, allowed me to enjoy what was happening visually. A man wakes up only to find civilization has vanished, and he is the sole remaining species.

I'm sure we have all fantasized about this, and what we would do. The main character relates to his imagination, and to ours, he takes a small advantage and delivers it with such passion and comedic structure. Of course however, this would drive anyone insane if they weren't used to living a life of recluse and complete solitude, and he eventually does dance along the rope of reality, slipping momentarily until the plot drives forward.

It is an entertaining movie, it has it's thrills, it certainly has a tad suspense and a slight nudge of bad acting, however in saying that; the movie makes up for this tedious flaw with a terrific script, and a most peculiar story-line which will leave the viewers wondering what on Earth will happen (ignore the pun).

I enjoyed this movie a great deal, it was a fun way to spend an evening watching the well adapted characters explore the possibilities of their flawed world.

If you watch this movie with the 'Mute' activated...
26 November 2009
It actually gives you the illusion that the dialog isn't completely under-developed. I actually didn't find the acting to be terrible, if they were given some decent lines, well actually if this movie was completely re-written, it would have been a hell of a lot better.

The special effects were entertaining, I'm sure the film crew were on a limited budget, and I give them props for what they managed to squeeze from I'm guessing, an already dry lemon. Well aside from the plane scene... But then again, nothing can be made perfect. If you rent this movie, you should expect it not to be worth you're money, because there's a lot of other sci-fi movies out there. But if you you don't care about a measly dollar, then get it out, for a laugh at least. ;)

Dard Divorce (2007 Video)

One of the worst movies, with some of the best gore
8 August 2009
For starters this movie to me, seemed like it was shot by a twelve year old. The actors (if you can call them actors) were very ameturist, illogical and entirely unbelievable. The story dragged on, it was strange and a lot of the parts should have really been cut.

However... I think on some level, the director's idea was idealistic and original, he could have done this film brilliantly if he had a well prepared and experienced cast.

Now for what I actually saw the movie for, the gore... It was terrific, I was disgusted by every minute of it. Blood, limbs and protruding intestines, brilliant!

The Strangers (2008)
10/10
By far, the most scared I've been in a LONG time...
4 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a lot of horror movies, you could easily say I've lost most of my sensitivity to the genre, but one thing I don't find a lot in the modern age, is films such as the strangers.

It's not a crime, it's not a fantasy, it is definitely NOT a gore fest, there are no supernatural or 'creatures' that go around terrorizing a whole lot of people. No these are three, very disturbed people. Or they could just be completely bored, who knows, it's not the point.

The thing I love most about this movie, is the fact we get two main characters who are real, they're not stupid teenage girls and boys screaming and running around in slow motion, these two characters are believable, and I loved them as if they were my own family. And I hoped SO much that they would survive, even though I know they wouldn't.

Liv Tyler... she stunned me so much here, her fear was so real it had me shaking in my seat. She played her emotions with flawless perfection, and throughout this entire movie, I was petrified for her safety.

The ending, I have to talk about it so I'm just going to spoil the entire movie for you all...

It was by far the most brutal I have ever seen, and I mean ever.

Sure you can go watch the guinea-pig flowers of flesh and blood, or even aftermath, and that underground crap. And I have, seen them all. But this, I felt tears building up, because it was so unfair, they were so in love you could tell, just the fact they had the chance to tell each other, and prepare each other for their deaths. Ughh... I was so mad, yet so satisfied.

This is how a horror should be made, this is what scares people. Reality.

Trapped (I) (2002)

At least some people got love out of it...
23 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Because I surely did not. For starters, the family, you have an Irish man with fairly dark hair, a blonde magazine model? woman, with an intellectual young blonde daughter. That at first to me seemed unrealistic, but later on the film it was just ridiculous.

I craved more information on these characters, because they seemed interesting enough, but all I was given was a bunch of strangers thrown into a pot of boiling nonsense.

Don't get me wrong though, these actors are terrific with the right role, this was just supposed to be a T.V movie with actors and actresses we had never heard of. It was a lazy, terror-less film about something that people make movies about, it seems every day. They could have had a twist or two, maybe even a little bit of suspense, but no. It was boring, I was watching this film thinking to myself what I would have done if I was in that situation.

Overall, the only part I actually enjoyed was when the woman got let out of the boot of the car and just ran away, I had to giggle at that.

Firehouse Dog (2007)

A charming little family flick.
31 July 2008
I loved this movie, and I have pretty much grown far from liking children's movies, as adults you notice every single flaw and imperfection, but this movie is so different from the others I have seen. It was a personal film, I felt remorse for the characters, I liked them, not to mention the biggest most talented actor in this film, the dog.

Of course it was predictable, but it doesn't matter, if you're bored with your kids at home on a chilly day, I definitely would recommend this film. Overall, I thought the acting was terrific, the characters unique and original, the story cute and VERY funny. This is a brilliant wee masterpiece.

Rounders (1998)

It was OK...
27 July 2008
Yet it failed to satisfy me, as an avid poker player who has played well over 10,000 games (mostly online btw), I just didn't believe much of this movie, I didn't really care to like the characters all that much, the story was cheap and uninteresting, I mean how many movies are about debts and people getting beat up? probably 50%.

I would have enjoyed this so much more if it wasn't about debts, just a straight up poker movie, no mobs and death threats, because that shouldn't be how poker is represented, sure it's like that some places, but not everywhere. Here we see poker as gambling, but what it is, is it's a game of skill, and of luck, if you put two and two together, you will win high, lose low. But you will lose, yet you will win.

This film lacked so much, it could really have been something, but the story failed to intrigue, it failed to teach the audience about the characters, all we saw was some ordinary people, I mean I could walk down the street and do that everyday for free.

I was about 10 minutes left of the film and I looked at the time and thought "hell this movie is supposed to finish soon, I thought so much more was going to happen" and it didn't, it was overall, an OK film, nothing I would ever watch again, but if you're a novice at poker, I suggest you watch it, as it has some pretty onto it key-points every poker player should learn.

Time Bomb (2008)
5/10
Lets go for a ride down 'none of this made sense' lane...
5 July 2008
Okay, so lets start off with my overall thought of this flick, it was average. But unlike a vast majority of the people who has seen this, I did enjoy it, and I did watch it from beginning to end, however I was still left in disbelief as to what I had just seen.

This isn't the kind of film that if you watch it over and over, it will start making sense, because nor does this movie fail to succeed in clearing specific details up, it also fails at creating a realistic storyline.

But not every story that has been written is based on reality, this is purely someones imagination playing a hand at poker. He thinks he has a good hand, but really... he's just an amateur at heart, trying to make something interesting, but ending up WAY over the top. Nothing wrong with that though, as long as no one expects an Oscar.

This movie has an uncomfortable atmosphere, the characters were creepy and to some extent, intense. I was really let down when Jason's son didn't have that big a role, because obviously this story began around his death, and it was clear that the kid who played him is very talented, they should have given him some more scenes to bloom for his resume.

Jake, Jake, Jake... You were given a lead role, you were given SO many chances to create something here for yourself, a nice big juicy "well you see, the movie sucked, but that Jake, he really had me glued!" But I was slightly let down. Okay, more than slightly, but I don't want to mentally damage this man. Because I've seen some of his other stuff and I thought he was BRILLIANT. But he is clearly either a freaky psychopathic serial killer, or... a comedy jewel. However I appreciate him leaping into something different for a change. He's talented when given the right roles. This movie did not let him go very far with my expectations.

This film, if it were made by film students would be above average.

But I would definitely recommend a watch if you are incredibly bored and enjoy far too original films.

It doesn't deserve a three though, common, you can see the effort and the camera work very much impressed me.

Audition (1999)
6/10
Someone forgot to take their pills this morning.
28 April 2008
Audition is hands down a good movie, made by a great director. The scenes were shot perfectly, the actors were terrific, the story-line was some what unusual but beautiful. However, this film failed to both satisfy and disturb me. The slow build-up was necessary, however they could have gone a little bit further to entertain people such like me, who get bored easily. A good film, no matter how slow or quick, it must captivate the audience from beginning to end. I found myself pausing the film and going to get something to eat on more than 1 occasion, a terrific film will starve you of reality, it wont let you leave your seat until you have watched every second of it.

I've read comments where people say they don't get it, and that it's just confusing, but the beauty with this film, is that your not supposed to understand it, or you're supposed to come to your own judgment of what is going on.

Now lets get to some scenes!

The vomit scene, didn't really irk me that much, 2 reasons, we didn't see the girl actually vomit, she came out with a bowel and some 'vomit' dripping over the side, that was pretty much the only thing that looked realistic. I'm not saying I like watching people vomit, and then other people eating it like it's just another meal, but common people, if you're going to make a film where it's supposed to disturb the viewer, make more of an effort, please.

The torture scene, well... I was rather disappointed, you see I'm a 17 year old girl, I have a pretty strong stomach and after watching that scene I was left thinking 'what the f***? is there more?' regarding some peoples comments on that certain bit, I was expecting to see her go hard out with it all, and guess what? we didn't see her do ANYTHING, just the man screeching out in pain. I don't remember blood spurting anywhere, I mean if you have seen a film like Kill Bill Vo.1, you'll understand that a severed limb can create quite the spurt. But no.

Probably the freakiest thing in this film, was when the man in the bag moved and growled or whatever it did, I knew it was going to happen, but it still makes you jump a little.

However, I did like this film, it had an uncomfortable feel to it, which I admire the director was able to pull that off, it was a very good story line, but I thought they could have done so much more with it, I was left sort of left and right.

Broken (III) (2006)

You wont be camping no more, folks. If you do, take a metal rod.
7 March 2008
At the beginning of the film, I figured this would just be another one of those films where you don't really care about any of the characters, and it'll all be about silly teens running through the forest with all similar deaths, well I can say I was pleasantly surprised.

I have seen a lot of horror flicks in my time, probably some of the ones people would consider the worst ever created (meaning violence wise), but I can safely say none of them could even meet this movie. The reason behind my opinion? because it is realistic, as if this could actually have happened, for all we know it could be happening right now. The way the film didn't mess around at the beginning really caught my attention, I hate it when it takes ages for action to start happening,l and you have to go through a series of events to understand a character, well with this one you could watch it from the start or 10 minutes from the end and you will witness the horrible trauma the woman went through.

The fact that the main character wasn't a size 0 super-model was also intelligent for the director to pursue, I take my hat off to the actor, she portrayed pain in the most freakishly realistic way it made me want to either burst into tears or puke, 2 of which I never do whilst watching a film.

It doesn't matter if you choose the simplest surroundings, the most normal people, or even a psychopath who is just that and doesn't turn into some satanic werewolf, you can still make a terrific horror flick. I am so happy to have found a movie in my favorite genre which I can respect, it will surely be living in my memory, and I surely will never be going into the woods again.

I have never wanted a character to die so much, as well as a character to live so much.

My boyfriend stopped watching within the first 10 minutes, so watch your guts guys!

80% Perfect
21 February 2008
First of all let me compliment the director, producers, screenplay writers, actors so on so forth, they all did a marvelous job at creating such a deviously intriguing storyline.

The relationship's between each character was phenomenon, their emotions were believable, everything they did suited them individually well. In the beginning of the film, it was sexy, and stylish, Bobby was ignorant to the most valuable things, although he is easily trained into thinking differently if things are at stake.

The realism was good, the director obviously has an eye for detail, as the small things really do make a film more artistic and original.

Throughout the movie, it slightly lacked some of the important things, such as the closeness between Bobby and Amada, even after special circumstances, I was disappointed to learn that Bobby was all for protecting his partner, however they didn't communicate well, therefor my sympathy for them as a couple dissolved slightly.

Of course if a viewer has the same expectations as The Departed you will be disappointed as it's more or less thriller/drama, rather than drama/action.

I was pretty annoyed at the ending, it didn't suit the characters very well, it felt rushed and completely ridiculous as well as unfinished.

Overall, I loved the cast and the characters they created, the story was captivating, it had a point to be made, and an obvious selection of people to satisfy.

At the end of the movie, I was very much satisfied, and gave this film an 8/10.

Lost Junction (2003)
6/10
Slightly unrealistic, but enjoyable nonetheless.
12 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Lost Junction starts out with a man and his broken down car, then a woman who never leaves town drives past to aid his rescue, she takes him home and lets him stay in her house, but of course before she goes to 'feed the ducks'. Keep in mind, this guy is a complete stranger, and this gal has some pretty old fashioned beliefs. But, lucky for her he ain't some homicidal maniac searching for his next victim.

So the movie is all perfectly innocent to begin with, however if you are good at reading body language, you'll learn there is something strange and dissatisfying going on.

Anyway, the story goes on, the man eventually leaves after over welcoming his stay (in my opinion anyway), goes to his mates place who he deserted pretty much after pushing him off a cliff and turning him into a crippled (not on purpose I should probably add). So they have a heart to heart, shed some tears and forgive the world and all it's glory and are pretty much best mates again from there on.

Now with my own opinions lurking around, I think that the crippled was shoved in the movie scene so you can feel a bit of emotion when things start going a tad haywire. I have to say though, with all the Busey movies I've seen, he's always been some what of a villain, I couldn't help feeling exactly what the director wanted me to feel. Despite it's cheesy plot, and it's unrealistic ways of things happening.

But at the end of the day, this movie is obviously not Oscar matarial, but it is very enjoyable, the characters maybe far too acted, but you are able to care for them and want them to be semi happy, as long as you got a decent amount of cash. Which is mainly what this movie evolves around.

Overall, I give this a 6 out of 10.

The Quiet (2005)
10/10
Beautiful.
29 December 2007
The Quiet is a movie which doesn't get made often, with the ick subject of incest lingering in the heavy and must I add, depressing plot, it doesn't fail to give the viewer what it wants, in fact, the only thing that bugged me was that it was too short, too many things were left unfinished, but then I guess not every story ends like Cinderella.

For starters, the characters were so created, they wern't pinched from some loopy and thoughtless teenage movie, they forced you to respect them, and care for them which in my opinion, is one of the greatest keys to a successful movie.

The ending is very fulfilling, the way everyone stepped into each others shoes was beautifully crafted, things were to be expected, but then some surprises caught you at the most unusual time.

The downside to this movie is how predictable it is, some of the scripts were slightly cliché, but then you wouldn't expect a 17 year old girl to think like Shakespeare.

This is a must see for every teenage girl who feels excluded from the real world, it might make you want to stay further away, but then it shows you that no matter how different you are from so many people, opposites do really attract.

I loved this film, it's not for everyone, but if you can handle a bit of nasty, and some foul language, I recommend this you watch it!

Girl kicks butt.... unfortunately.
10 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I say unfortunately because Jake Busey was the only decent actor in this movie.

To be honest I have to watch a movie at least 4 times in order to review it properly, and each time I watched this it seemed to grow on me more and more.

Sure 99% of the characters were lame delinquents, but I take my hat off to that Jake each and every movie he performs in.

He's known for his acts of evil characters, that's because he does them so well, he's believable, he can make anybody hate and despise him so easily, and on the same page he can make the audience feel proud and emotionally connect with his characters.

I think one thing people forget when they rate these kind of movies, is that it's obvious the director knows it wont be a big hit like lord of the rings, or the shining or the godfather, it's just a movie that succeeds on it's own level.

In this film you see plenty of action, the main guy who WILL get on your nerves will die, the villain does die as they do, but the way he does is creative, well you may not think getting blown up is very original, but it was just plain cool to see a woman do it, to see a woman survive and do the deed.

The effects were brilliant, you see a man chop off his own finger and throw it into a fryer, and you actuall cringe and feel that tingly feeling because you believe that it's real, even though you know it isn't, you just forget about it.

This movie was really great in it's own way!

Predictable, unrealistic... just plain awesome!
3 September 2007
If it wern't so late with people sleeping in the next room, I surely would have peed my pants from laughing so hard.

Some parts of this movie are just so funny you can't actually laugh because laughing wouldn't express the feeling you get from the movie.

Steve Zahn, Jack Black & Jason Biggs all play unsuccessful (particulary in romance) old school friends. They have an unbreakable friendship (as you'll see in the movie), sometimes they will go to completely drastic measures to fight for each other. But throughout this film you will want them to all just be happy, and stick together.

Of course this is just another one of those movies which comes out every year with the same plot but I guarantee you that if you are eagering for a good laugh (sound proof walls recommended) then get this out. It's randomly hilarious, the characters are cute and stupid, it'll leave you wishing it would just go on for hours!

I mean where else can you find a movie with the lines such as "we ate her"!

A beautiful finish to a spectacular story
18 July 2007
I never imagined that graphics as good as these were possible to produce. I mean you see a lot of movies out which covers monsters, aliens, paranormal, machinery and completely impossible architectural designs, but the thing about them is they look unrealistic, you all may think that's not surprising as they are just that, but they don't follow the realism level that a properly made movie should have. Beyond a story, in fact beyond the creation of a story, the story creator must think about A lot of things, they need to think about capturing the audience, and keeping them hostage in it's pursuing tensity until it's finished. I find in a lot of high budget movies is that they are putting almost too much effort into it, as if they are telling everyone that this movie will be beyond all movies, there's nothing wrong with that, but just leaving it at that and using all their creative designs thinking about how their film can be better than the rest is a waste, during the production of something so incredible, they need to think about the originality, the characters, they need to make the characters original.

So as this money is being spent, I would actually prefer to watch something that is focused on the natural idea, I want to watch something that is incredible, something that keeps me on my seat, ignoring everything around me, as if I am actually transforming myself as another character, unknown to the rest of course, but I want to feel as though I am IN the design.

Which brings me to my point, being that, The Matrix is something that isn't being finished every year, it's not a movie that you see over and over, I think these films are something you watch just once and then stick the DVD in a gold case on your bedroom wall, and every time you look at it you remember the entire journey.

I hope that when people watch this, they wont think of it as being just like the rest, but completely different and heartfelt, as if they have just sat through a different life, I hope that they notice the details, and the emotion, as much as the characters and how gorgeous you think they look, look past them and see a story, a trilogy, that has something to it you most likely will never see again.
