Eh, I really wanted to like it...
17 January 2014
So, I love independent films, and further more almost everybody in this cast are in my regular viewing, but this was just so eh. I felt like the scenes that were supposed to be dramatic just fell flat. The actors are incredible, and their performances were great, but it just felt unnatural and too contrived and so it just kind of left you feeling like it should've been more. The comedy scenes were slightly amusing but not really all that funny, with the exception of "and we're holding." I loved Sam Rockwell's character who I thought was the only character who really stood out and was a lot of fun, but there was no character journey for him, or for that matter for any other character in the film. They try to trick you into the main character had a personal journey, but he didn't he stayed the same, he just found people who accepted him that way. Steve Carell did great, but all the way through the film he was so intolerable it was miserable to watch scenes with him. AnnaSophia Robb was in it. I LOVE Annasophia Robb. She is beautiful, funny, and VERY talented, but her role in this particular film was bland, and really very expendable. So, I don't know, it felt like it was a wanna-be indie film. It was an enjoyable one time view but it's nothing special.

Sentimental, Touchy-Feely, Not Bad, But Not Great
14 November 2013
All of the reviews I have read, for the most part, state that this is a lot like the first AP movie, and that it is almost as good. Here's the truth: it's not. While the movie delivers some solid laughs, and a little bit of raunchy humor, it is far too focused on nostalgia. The little overtones and references to the original movie are humorous and well- placed, however they clearly tried too hard to make it reminiscent and it just came off as more of a feel-good, drama-comedy. The character development was good, and the plot was solid, but it was too mushy. Another big problem is that in an attempt at being reminiscent of the first, it repeated a lot of the original gags which really just came across as a little lazy. So, the movie is funny, at times hilarious, and at times sad. It's a fun watch, especially if you are an AP fan, but definitely not as strong as AP and AP 2. Beats American Wedding hands down though. It's fun, and a good look back at the movies so many people grew up watching and loving, but nothing all that special.

As A Sequel- Great! Stand Alone-Good.
14 November 2013
So I love the first American Pie, and I stand by what I said in my review of the first that that these are not sex comedies, and that they have a lot of heart, but i felt that this was a little overly sentimental. I love that these movies have heart, and a good plots but i feel like this one tried a little too hard to remove itself from that culture. That being said this movie was hilarious and as a sequel, it's just about the best we could have expected. It has numerous good laughs, good writing, good acting, and it's another great bromantic comedy. I have to say that Jason Biggs delivery of the---well, let's just say "I glued myself to uh....myself" scene(in the trailer too, not a spoiler.) was terrific. If you're looking for a good laugh that is not at the expense of somebody, or just constantly going for the easy laugh this is your movie. It has a lot of gross out humor, but it also has a lot of more situation humor and complex humor. Is it as good, or influential as the first? Not a chance. But it is hilarious, true to the first, and it is a great movie to watch for a party night.

This One Time At Band Camp: No.
14 November 2013
Yeah, so if you liked the first two as much as I did, you'll probably fin this movie fun and entertaining. Here's the thing though, it's not really an AP movie. The movie isn't about bro-mance, and it's not even REALLY about Jim, Keven, Chris, and Finch, it's about Stiffler. You can say whatever you want about how it's the wedding of Jim and Michele so it's about them but it's not. The majority of screen time is given to Stiffler and his antics which is too bad, because Sean William Scott can't carry a movie very well, and he because old and annoying quickly. This being said the movie has a lot of laughs, a lot of heart, and, yes, bestiality jokes. The main problem is that it is not original, or even really an AP movie. American Wedding is pretty much a slightly raunchier rom-com. I was let down a great deal by this movie, even though I liked it. I'm a huge Alyson Hannigan fan, so I was excited to see her as a lead, and had she have ACTUALLY been the lead, alongside Jason Biggs, the movie would have been much better. It's also not really an AP movie because it's not a bromance, and where the heck is Chris?! So yeah, watch it and enjoy it if you like the first two AP's, but don't expect anything as good as the first two. Basically, it should have been a bromantic comedy not a romantic comedy, and it's American Wedding, not American Stiffler.

American Pie (1999)
8/10
Surprisingly Entertaining, and Warm Hearted.
14 November 2013
I want to start this review with a shocking statement: I am a Christian. That's right, a Christian watched "American Pie." Okay, so to you this may not seem like much of a big deal, but trust me, to 99 percent of Christians, it is. See, I grew up being told that these films were stupid, raunchy, cheesy, sex comedies. I put in the disc for AP expected to be greatly offended and find it to be all of those things. I only watched it at first because I am a very big Alyson Hannigan fan and I wanted to see her trademark role. I'll be the first to admit that there is a lot of inappropriate content in the movie, and yes, he has sex with a pie, but I think people overestimate the way that these things are shown. The movie isn't a porn flick. It shows his butt for a few second while he is over the pie. Yes there i frontal nudity on a girl, and yes, it is in a prolonged scene, however, this is probably the most justifiable nudity of any movie in the 1990's.

In the 1990's teen films had become so squeaky clean, and afraid of offending anyone that they had become incredibly unrealistic. AP was a throw back to 80's films like Fast Times At Ridgemont High, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles. Granted AP is worse than all of these. There is no way to justify the content, but that doesn't mean the movie isn't a good movie. It is a well-written, well-acted, funny, somewhat original comedy with a lot of heart. It brought back the bro- mance.

The fact is that if you are easily offended, you will HATE AP, but if you're not, grab some popcorn, a large coke---and maybe some apple pie-- - and enjoy this truly one of a kind, hilarious movie that(in-case you're one those people who thinks it is) is not a sex comedy but truly a bromantic comedy.

Dads (I) (2013–2014)
1/10
Unintelligent, Unoriginal, Unnecessary, Offensive.
17 September 2013
"Dads" is yet another excuse for Seth MacFarlane to be vulgar, racist, sexist, crude, and incredibly rude to everybody and everything. Now, I am not a fan of Family Guy, American Dad, or The Cleveland Show, but Dads trumps them all. Not only is it far more controversial, MacFarlane seems to have forgotten that you cannot be as vulgar and rude in a live action production as in a cartoon because in a cartoon you do not actually watch the actors make the joke. A really big issue with the show is that it isn't even funny. There is not a single laugh in the entire pilot. The show portrays fathers as racist, sexist, unintelligent, crazy old men. The entire show is over the top and the plot is incredibly bland. As far as I'm concerned Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green, Giovanni Ribisi, and every other person who is involved in the sad, pathetic, filthy, ridiculous excuse for a show is welcome to just stop attempting to be funny, or create, or act in anything ever. This show is exactly the kind of low-brow, unoriginal, formulaic, offensive, crap that makes TV and film so terrible and for the most part unbearable to watch. Not worth anything.

The Office: Finale (2013)
Season 9, Episode 23
The perfect ending. :)
16 May 2013
What can you say about the farewell of a show that has meant so much to so many people? It is the kind of event that you can only judge to some extent because at a certain point the "love letter to the fans" that Craig Daniels wrote draws you in emotionally and you end up loving it. I guess I deserve to give this show the best tribute I can. Let me start here, I am a teenager, and all my life I have been bullied and never had very many friends. The last few years have been especially tough for me and I have struggled with very intense things that have led to some very serious actions, to say the least. I have grown up with these characters as part of my life and throughout my life they have served as friends when I had no other ones. The last few years these characters have been there for me and seeing them grow has helped me grow. A show that means so much to me had to finish perfectly or it all would be ruined. Tonight I sat down already teary eyed knowing that they would be gone from my life in an hour. The episode delivered great laughs, but it delivered a lot more. The episode delivered very intimate moments that were much needed. Plot lines that begun throughout the show came to a good conclusion and old stars returned with perfect timing. It was a sweet, beautiful, amazing, perfect love letter from the amazing cast to all of it's fans. I must admit that I was in tears seeing how much the characters had grown since we first visited this little town of Scranton Pennsylvania. The story line of the friendship between Dwight and Jim is particularly heart- warming. Every character ended up just where they should have and the final shot was perfection. "Sometimes goodbyes are a *****" but this perfect love letter softened the blow. The show will be missed, but it did end perfectly.

Fantastic
17 February 2013
There are films that are just sort of lingering uselessly, with mediocre writing and acting, then there are films that are magnificent and have the potential to change the world. Those films are very rare to find, and commonly are independent films who are like gems in the pile of dung. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the latter of the two. Its simple complexity is incredibly compelling, and will captivate you from beginning to end. Logan Lerman, who is unfortunately known for roles in films such as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, did a surprisingly superb job. Accompanied by the seasoned acting talents of Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Johnny Simmons, and Paul Rudd, this film is so much more than could ever have been expected. Each scene is beautifully crafted, and well-intentioned. It is heartfelt, and the emotions are raw and real. The film has a resounding message of acceptance and love to all, and does not attempt to censor itself. It is an amazing film that truly brings us to the realization that "Right now we are alive, and in this moment, I swear, we are infinite."

Liberal Arts (2012)
8/10
Entertaining, humorous, and charming.
1 January 2013
These days it is very rare to find a well rounded film with a good moral. While Josh Radnor is know for his raunchy sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," he has many hidden talents that the show does not utilize. As a writer, director, and actor he is superb, and he brings a refreshing change of pace to not only the drama industry, but the film industry in general. From the opening sequence to the credits the film is thoroughly entertaining, and intelligent. Elizabeth Olsen was enthusiastic and energetic, just as Zibby should have been portrayed. Zac Efron was surprisingly humorous, and his slightly off-key character adds a certain lightness to such a dramatic film. Every cast member was perfectly cast, the script is humor, entertaining, and charming. The most astonishing aspect of the film was the use of a classical soundtrack, a general push toward fine arts, great classic literature references, and the idea presented that love and music join us all together. No matter what your particular tastes in film in I urge you to take the time and watch 'Liberal Arts,' you will not be sorry.

Fitting Title
19 November 2012
Dumb and Dumber serves it title well. Before Jim Carrey began starring in dramedies such as "Yes Man" and "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" he was known exclusively for his ridiculously over-the-top stupid humor which was made known first in "Ace Ventura Pet Detective." While immature antics tend to grow old quickly, the duo of Carrey and Daniels is immensely funny, and somewhat original. Admittedly the shenanigans and irreverent humor is at times quite annoying, but it is redeemed by nearly perfect satires, and well-rounded one-liners. Though it remains very mild language wise for the most part, these is nearly pervasive crude and sexual humor, some of which are highly inappropriate. Between pervasive crude and sexual humor, scenes with nudity, some dang close to graphic nudity, the primary focus of sex and farts, and tons of stupid humor. If you are in to that sort of thing it is great. The movie is hysterically funny, but way over the top. It's a stupid, dirty classic.

The Avengers (2012)

Very Good.
7 November 2012
Being the comic book junkie that I am, and seeing numerous attempts at making decent super hero/vigil-anti films, most of which ending in disaster. From the terrible 'Fantastic Four' films to the ridiculously awful 'Thor' film, there was no doubt in my mind that the film would lack any real substance, but instead focus on immature, repetitive, one- liners. My only true incentive for paying to see this in theaters was Joss Whedon being the writer and director. That being said I enjoyed the 'Iron Man,' 'Captain America,' and 'Hulk' films as well. My expectations were low for this ensemble super hero flick, as I sat in the back row of the movie theater. It was surprisingly very good. it was well written(for the most part), the acting was superb, the plot was juicy and consistent, the characters were believable, and the CGI and other effects were great. The film had many one liners, but they were mature, well thought out, humorous, and best of all: the film didn't rely on them to make itself memorable.Aside from the over the top Thor and Loki characters, and far too fast progressing beginning the film was excellent. The film began very fast, and then suddenly slowed down which was a slight bit annoying. But with all things considered, especially the other acting and special effects, the film is a great film, well worth viewing and/or owning.

Rules of Engagement (2007–2013)
7/10
Good...Maybe Great.
9 October 2012
Recently I stopped watching 'How I Met Your Mother' because of pervasive crude and sexual humor. Unfortunately it resulted in losing the happy medium between too funny and too dramatic. After a long search for a similar show with less inappropriate content I discovered 'Rules Of Engagement.' I was disappointed to find that the characters don't appear to have much depth, nor do they feel very real. The writing is not as good as it is in HIMYM, and the actors are over the top, especially Patrick Warburton. David Spade is one of my all time favorite comedians and he plays a character much like Barney Stinson, unfortunately he is not as good for the part as Neil Patrick Harris. The show is too far consumed with the comedy to take a moment for a moral of the story. It's funny, fairly clean, and semi-well written. It's a good show with decent comedians, and a good plot. Worth the watch.

The Office (2005–2013)
10/10
Hilarious, Ground-Breaking, Almost a Masterpiece.
25 September 2012
I am a huge Steve Carrel fan, however my towering dislike for creator and original lead actor Ricky Gervais made me a bit skeptical at the beginning. Very quickly however, the show proved itself to be a very well written, humorous, witty, subtle TV comedy show. More than that, though, it was ground breaking. I smile upon this show rather than the original British version because this version has more multidimensional characters, who change throughout the show, and each character has their own story arch that has been tailored specifically for them. The story is very good, the humor is subtle, and very original. It has many twists and turns, good lessons, and it feels real. Definitely one of the best American sitcoms to come out in a long time. Unfortunately after Greg Daniels left as a writer/developer around season five the show went downhill slightly, but the show really hit rock bottom in season eight after lead actor Steve Carrel left the show to pursue a film-based career. However on an up note the pilot episode of season nine was very similar to the original seasons. If it wasn't for season 8 it would be nearly a masterpiece. Well-made, hilarious fun for all ages. But I have to conclude by saying we miss you Steve Carrel, The Office isn't the same without you.

How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014)
9/10
Well-constructed, Humorous, and Ultamately Effective Lessons.
25 September 2012
Upon hearing about this show after the fifth season had already concluded, I was very pessimistic about it, due to the fact that it was described to me as a 'romantic drama TV series about a group of friends in their late twenties. One hoping to find true love, two happily married to each other, one who has a fear of commitment, and a womanizing single who is wholly against any form of monogamy." Finally caving into the pressure of multiple friends to watch this "groundbreaking" show, I was surprised to find that it was completely different than the by-the-book, over-the-top sex comedy that would be short lived and grow old quickly that I was expecting. Instead what I got was a well-rounded TV drama with very three-denominational characters who are dynamic in every episode. Ted, the one looking for true love, has many layers and is not a by-the-book single 26 year old. Marshall and Lilly are a very cute couple that in my experience behave very similar to married couples of their age and truly are in love. Robin, instead of being just afraid of commitment, has a very real dilemma of wanting to fall in love, but having major anxieties about commitment. And finally to everyone's favorite HIMYM character Mr. Suit Up himself Barney Stinson. This character is perfectly crafted, and very original. He is not your typical womanizing loser, but he truly has dimension. From father issues to conflicted feelings about a single woman, to struggling with his best friends he is truly a very intriguing character that keeps you on the edge of your seat. From the first five minutes of the pilot I was hooked. It has heart, and decent lessons. A very real, drama that confronts very real issues. It's funny, it's smart, it's terrific. Definitely worth your time. It's had a great run and even through all it's seasons up-to-date it has remained equally as good as it's original seasons.

Terrific, Well-Made, and Very Romantic.
10 September 2012
First off, with this film being led by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon- Levitt, I had high expectations, and I can honestly say that it lived up to the expectations. The premise is extraordinary, and profound, however quite mature. The film focuses on a couple whose relationship is solely dedicated to intercourse, but end up having few moments of true unadulterated love. This is not to say that the film was a sex comedy, or for that matter a comedy. It was more of a drama, and it is quite sad in some parts, but none the less it is an amazing film. The acting is, as expected, superb. The script was very well written, and the film flowed very naturally and smooth. The points that it makes about love, and relationships are interesting and very original. The film is very psychological, and impressively toys with your emotions in a good way. Safe to say one of the best films to come out in a long time, and definitely worth the awards that it earned. Amazing, quirky, beautiful, and a good look at pure unadulterated love.

Funny, Well-Rouded, and Slightly Dark.
10 September 2012
To be perfectly honest I was expecting a slightly bland, over-produced, by-the-book romantic comedy with no real originality. However, I was surprised to find that it was none of these. It was quite funny, without using only slapstick, and irreverent remarks but having some good wholesome humor in it as well, and even in a few moments the element of surprise working for it. Jason Segal played his usual shtick of lovable, sensitive but slightly stupid big guy, and Emily Blunt covered the position of the beautiful woman who is far out of his league but loves him anyway. Both performed superbly, and the chemistry between the two of them was fantastic. It is very rare these days to find a film where the portrayed couple feels real and relatable, but Segal and Blunt pull it off nearly to perfection. The script was above average for a comedy, the storyline had some originality, and even though the ending was predictable the film still held interest. It, simply put, is a nice, warm-hearted romance movie about a couple who is madly in love and the lengths they will advance to, in order to keep their love alive. 8 out of 10 stars to what is possibly the best comedy of the year.

Decent
20 July 2012
What can I say? It's a Spider-Man reboot. Let's face it, no matter how cool he is, Spider-Man is just not the kind of hero who has a masterpiece movie, he's the kind of superhero that has a movie full of special effects, pretty girls, cheap gags, and one-liners. Andrew Garfeild showed potential, and was amusing to watch, and the always amazing Emma Stone was fabulous as ever. Honestly the story was decent, the acting was decent, the writing was decent. So what can I say besides that it was decent. It was fun, and that's really all Spider-Man can be. Was it as good as the Toby Macguire films? No, not even close. But it is a fun film, with action, suspense, romance, science, and humor. It is moderately clean, providing a superhero film that all ages can enjoy. Like I said though, it's Spider-Man, people who watch it expecting a masterpiece are going to be let down, it just isn't, and no matter how hard people try, Spider-Man will never be a masterpiece, it's what it always has been action, effects, heart, and pretty girls. So watch it, it's fun and pretty cool, but don't expect anything special.

So close to a masterpiece.
20 July 2012
The Dark Knight Rises has was a well made, high budget action movie, and for about half the film that's all it feels like: a lot of action and plot, a little of Batman. Though usually that would be a bit of a let down, it was both well done and necessary. The movie was an incredible feast for the eyes, but along with the action and suspense came something rare in films these days, plot and character development. It tied up all the loose ends very well, and continued to show the psychological issues set forth in the first two films. This long awaited film was well worth the wait. It comes as no surprise that the usual actors did a great job in their usual place, however the real surprise is the extraordinary break-out performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I use break out a bit loosely. He of course in no new kid in Hollywood, he starred on Third Rock From The Sun as a kid, and recently has gained popularity after starring alongside Seth Rogen in 50/50, however for the first time Levitt portrays a character who is very complex, and contains many emotions. So, I must give kudos to Levitt for break his usual comedic, 1 dimensional streak and becoming a very complex character seemly over night. Anne Hathaway shockingly delivered a stunning performance as Catwomen, and Tom Hardy, though his character was very 1 dimensional, delivered a great performance. The ending was very predictable but the achievement of a near masterpiece trilogy and third film makes up for it. So in short: it's no Dark Knight, but it's very close.

Very well made.
1 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
'Hunger Games' at first appeared to be another teen fantasy book series, that would someday become a film saga which would be mediocre like most the others. Instead it was a refreshing surprise when I read the books that it was an intelligent, well thought out, series with an almost unpredictable story arch. Upon seeing the film I was once again surprised and refreshed by the quality of the creation. It followed as closely to the book as possible, and did very good job of bringing Suzanne Collins novel full of imagination to life. They custom designed every line, every look, every costume, every setting and every detail to Tailor fit it's purpose. Jennifer Lawrence provided her usual rugged, intellectual, emotion-yet-strong character with nearly flawless acting, to compliment the film even further. Josh Hutcherson brought something new to the table for him. He was serious, emotional, and brave: a perfect co-star for Jennifer Lawrence. They did a nice job of adapting the vital lesson of the book: Suzanne Collins' creates a world full of imagination though it is very clear that it is is in a not-too-distant future for the united states on the path that we are currently on. It is visible, however in only the most subtle of ways. All in all, very well made, and most definitely a must see.

At least interesting....
19 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Can a film souly focused on the creation of a site be one of the best films of 2010? The answer is yes. David Fincher definitely brought a lot to the table for this film. Because of David Fincher's supreme directing, the film was pieced together perfectly for this movie. The acting was great, and the mood of the film stayed the same throughout which a fair amount of films these days lack. The plot keeps you waiting for more...although the movie did drag out slightly to long. I was disappointed with the content of the film mainly. It had an extreme amount of language. It has 2 "f" words and multiple s words, d words, h words, and b words. It also had multiple inappropriate slang terms for body parts, and sex. Also it had a lot of sexual material such as implied sex multiple times, women passionately making out, and almost naked girls doing sensual movements. It was a great film however the inappropriate content was both unnecessary and pervasive.

Fireproof (2008)
9/10
Heart-warming, Touching, Amazing.
12 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Fireproof goes above and beyond Flywheel and Facing The Giants. It shows the In-and-Outs of relationships and implies that love never dies.....just gets lost for a while. It is touching even to me, a teenager. It deals with issues or Pornography, and such things. Even as teens or those who are not yet married it can touch our hearts on many levels. The way that they say to treat the other partner in a intimate relationship relates to any intimate relationship not just that of marriage. The movie teaches us values of a relationship and what love truly is. As the characters attempt to rekindle their relationship you will feel compelled to do the same. The film also shows how great God's love is and what we must do to keep a healthy relationship with him. It has superb acting and will entertain anyone who watches it. Kirk Kameron did an outstanding job in his rule and it is completely believable. This is a must see rather you are a Christian or not.

dazzling special effects!!!! A feast for your eyes.!!!!! Robert zemeces deliver a new spin on the classic Charles dickens story a Christmas carol. including astounding voice acting from Jim Carry, Cary elwes, Robin write pen, and Gary oldman. it was nice having a slight bit of humor through out the movie. the first time i've seen a movie in theaters and not waited for the ending. the first about five minutes of the film were slightly over done on Jim carry's part but afterward it picked up and was a great film. i've seen many times in the past an over done scrooge and this was not an over done scrooge but just right. this is the first time i have seen a Christmas carol movie without too many uses of "Bah...Humbug." definitely a favorite Christmas movie. this film shows why a Christmas carol is my favorite Christmas story and movie of all time.

oh crap
24 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Whyyyyyyyyy, brendan fraser was in it and so was john hannah but this movie was crap. It was funny, sorta. it seemed as though it in no way related to the first two. it had nothing to do with Imhotep, Rachel Weiz wouldn't be in it. Even after seeing the forbidden kingdom i think this is a low point for jet li. It contained a few funny lines like "no way you two are like mummy magnets." and "yah put down the same mummy, twice." but not much else. the acting was atrocious. brendan fraser was a horrible O'connell in this one. They changed all the characters for this. It lacked a real plot. If you are a mummy fan you will be severely disappointed with this film. it was worse than the second scorpion king movie.

once again rick and Evy unleash the mummy of Imhotep, however now rick and Evy have a son named Alex. time married with a son, Alex. Imhotep has kidnapped Alex and is searching for the scorpion king, who will be almost impossible to stop. Now rick, Evy, and Jonathan must save Alex and stop Imhotep and the scorpion king. It was a very good film especially for a sequel to a remake. It was more action than the first one and had less build up time. because we've been introduced to the characters except 2 it just jumps into the action. this one was more humorous mainly because it had more of the cocky O'connell being that way. If you liked the first one you'll like this. The only real down is the CGI was not very good on this one. You could tell it was a fake Dwayne Johnson face on the scorpion king. however all the other acting was done exceedingly well.
