Cancel Culture
Rob-O-Cop6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So I must be watching a different series to most of the reviewers on here. This was a short series, only 8 episodes and made under the duress of Covid. We were lucky to get a series at all so I think they deserve some slack for that.

This series does not take in all that the book delivers, ie we're missing the resolution to the burn the witch aspect of it.

We're about 4 episodes short. That said I didn't really need the mills and boon stereo shagging sections, not when there is crucial story to be told.

We got the reveal about Roger being the true dad, which was good.

We got some great Jamie being the best human on the planet moments. He's the man you'd want having your back as he demonstrates again and again. There were some great Ian moments.

The way everyone turned on Claire and Jamie was a little strange but then you can see parallels in modern day cancel culture so I guess that makes it believable human nature.

This was a decent although cut short season. Waiting for the next part of the story is going to be difficult and I do prefer the previous end of season episodes that tie up story arcs but leave it open for the next part, not a fan of cliff hangers between seasons.

So in conclusion not up to the standard of previous seasons and really only half a season, but nowhere near as bad as the slagging reviews make out.

Episode 608

Warning: Spoilers
Intense at times, but also desperate too. A shootout for the first 10-15 minutes is not what I think of when I think of Outlander.

It got good with the travel and then the split and the rescue, but certainly an uneven finale.

A decent and enjoyable slow-burning sixth season, BUT...
elliottremblay2 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Its obvious to me that this series reached its highest level of quality in seasons 1, 2 and 3. I fell in love with this story because of Scotland and Scottish culture. Then I read all the books and even since then I have traveled to Scotland to visit filming locations like Lallybroch. Beside that, there are still a lot of great moments in season 4, 5 and 6. I'm not here to list every one of those moments, I think a lot of viewers have their idea, and I'll be the first to defend thoses seasons and their highlights.

Second, I have to make a statement, that Outlander does something that many other TV shows or movies often don't. I realized this in Season 5 where I discovered that the mood, pacing, and nature of Outlander had changed a lot since the first season. Here's the conclusion: the whole show covers a period of over 32 years (it started in 1743 and we are now in 1775). It's not often that a TV show spans so many years. And, I realized that it was the inescapable reason why the atmosphere had changed so much. Our whole universe of characters has gone through a period of thirty years, which is huge. Our character did evolve and change. So I can admit and agree with those who say the tone and nature of Outlander has changed a lot, but I honestly think the showrunners and the cast and all of these different directors are doing a pretty amazing job of adapting this huge saga of novels, which I have read. And so, I can't stand people saying that Outlander is bad, and they'd give it a zero, or that it's become a dumb show with dumb showrunners, that's not acceptable.

Third, everyone should remember that season 6 was cut short because of the pandemic and for Caitríona Blafe who was pregnant all season. And so, the ultimate climax will happen next season. It's even the first time that Outlander ends a season with such a high and dramatic cliffhanger (which I really appreciate). It's not complete, and things have yet to be worked out, and I'm glad they didn't rush Malva's murder for everyone's curiosity, because that has nothing to do with the quality of the series, on the contrary, it does not omit details and does not hasten to solve the mystery too quickly, at the expense of the quality of the series.

That said, season six was a quiet slow-burning season for me, there were a few highlights like Wendigo Donner in jail, Flora Macdonald's barbecue, Malva's murder, and that explosive episode. But especially the wonderful conversation between Claire and Jamie at the end of the seventh episode. This conversation came to prove that the whole series is brilliant and perfectly connected. Claire explains that she feels guilty for all the pain inflicted on her loved ones since returning to the past, mixed with the trauma of her recent attack. This conversation, these references to previous seasons and these references to all the violence and aggression inflicted on the various protagonists of Outlander, prove that the series does not use violence only as episodic narrative elements. This extreme violence has consequences, repercussions and evolution in the minds of the characters and IT'S BRILLIANT. It's logical and satisfying to hear such words from Claire, especially since that conversation wasn't in the book at all. It even made sense of his weird ether abuse. After that, I'm always surprised by the mean and derogatory comments towards the writers of the series.

Also, I didn't hear about it at all in the reviews for Season 6, but the cinematography and production design are AMAZING. The image quality is excellent, the costumes and sets too, the camera angles and movement are excellent. The framing of the multiple shots is breathtaking and THE strengths are undoubtedly the colors. They're amazing, well-chosen, and perfectly suited to the plot. But again, people have to talk about the fake plastic plants in the garden with a huge screen time of around 90 seconds.

Finally, having read the seventh book, I know it will be a massive and ambitious season to make. But what I do know is that people will be thrilled and I strongly believe they'll get back some of what they loved in the early seasons. Can't wait for it!

Worst season so far
LayllasLocker15 June 2022
Great actors, crew, costumes, everything..... but story failed big time.

I didn't sign up for soap opera back in season 1.

Hopefully they improve writing in the last season.

Outlander is BACK
dewberrydays1 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everything I've always loved about Outlander is in this episode, which is by far the best of the season. Yes, this season has been slow. It's also been quite faithful to the book, which is nice. But the best episodes of Outlander involve romance, action, and in many cases, a journey. Outlander is always at its best when the main characters are on the move. Even though it was rather faithful to the novel, I felt that the story was beginning to become stagnant, because it rarely left Fraser's Ridge. It was time, high time, for the show to get moving again. And this episode did just that. It's also one of the better cliffhangers in Outlander's history. I am excited to see how they adapt the rest of the book and book 7. As the war gets going, I think that our characters will be on the move a lot more. The show thrives when it is at its most dynamic. I'm interested to see how the rest of this particular drama with Claire's utterly unjust "trial" plays out as well. And I'm surprised they didn't show Wendigo Donner in jail alongside her! The episode does leave you feeling suspended, but in a good way.

Loved this episode
esjacobs2 September 2022
Came here to give something positive instead of the other opinions that are more on the negative side. This episode was intense, and I loved it. I'm so in awe how Sam & Caitriona can play their roles which such focus, empathy and vulnerability. They have been doing it for six seasons though it doesn't show in their acting. Above all this is a love story and their relationship shows so many sides. The companionship, trust, protecting each other, being lovers etc. The love scene between Jamie & Claire this episode was on the list of one of the best I've seen in this series. I hope they will continue to show that. Sure there are some things happening that can rub you the wrong way, Claire being accused of being a witch again for one. But all the other actors and their story's are just as interesting that it makes it up for that. Hearing more from Ian, Lizzie falling in love with two people and being completely surprised why that can't be done. Loved the actor who played Tom Christie and seeing how he is (finally) warming up to Claire. I can see why some people are not as enthusiastic about this season, and also why it is a great season because even though there might not be much happening, there is still a lot to enjoy in the story of the great characters of Outlander. It's so well made and played with a beautiful pace so the story is unfolding as it is and not being rushed. This episode ends with a cliffhanger and looking forward to the next season.

Brilliant!!!
picklerick-784831 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode actually made me register to IMDb just to rate it. It was freaking brilliant. Other than the unnecessary Roger and Brianna sex scene, every second of the episode was a 10.

The heart of the show is Jamie and Claire and their relationship, and it was on full force in this one. From fighting for their lives to charts around the fire to one of the best love scenes yet. It portrayed them so well.

Real Love
bru_672 May 2022
Like many, I enjoy all aspects of Outlander - history, time travel, action, and the beautiful cinematography. But what I appreciate most is showing a couple who has been married for decades still so incredibly in love. In love enough to want to protect each other, whether that be physically (all the rescues over the years) or psychologically (not wanting to burden the other with their pain). In love enough to trust each other fully and share the most intimate corners of themselves. And in love enough to face the cruelty of the outside world together, whether that be war and impending war or lies and rumors by a jealous (and ungrateful) community. The sex scene between Claire and Jamie in this episode was the most beautiful one I have ever seen on TV. It was NOT a sex scene thrown in just because (which seemed to be the case for Bree and Roger) but rather to show how, in the darkest times, they can be vulnerable with and draw strength from each other. I'm grateful that a show that has a lot of story to pack into 8 episodes would choose to spend time on the longer, quieter, and meaningful scenes between Jaime and Claire. Also, married couples still have sex in their 50s and 60s, so thank you for showing that.

Boring season weak ending
ANEWMAN679 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I can't take another Jamie and Claire get separated and one has to save the other story. I had high hopes for this season. I really thought the revolutionary war would have broken out by now. This season was one to forget. Frankly the entire malva thing could have been wrapped up in two or three episodes.

Kinda boring
Raluca-buznea7 June 2022
They dragged this extensively. It wasn't as bad as some of the reviews but , man, everything moved in slow motion. And one thing I really didn't like... They forgot they aren't filming a porn movie. I get it.. a nice love scene is ok but showing the entire act was boring and gross.

Gahhh What happened to this show?!
borninthewrongcentury12 August 2022
Ugh this season sucks. It is so outrageous and outlandish no puns intended. Everything is just to up the ante of the previous episode. Nowhere are the charming people and town they started with. Just these nasty fisherfolks who should have been ousted the moment trouble started. Everything in this season is just so off the wall and not interesting or endearing. Pretty much like season 4 in Jamaica. That was a terrible season as well. Get back to the lovely relationships and storytelling. Not this outlandish drivel. Ruining something that could have been so good. It breaks my heart. I LOVED the first 2 seasons and season 5 was decent. But 4 and 6 need to be erased from memory. I pray 7 is better but I won't count on it. :/

Cringy sex scenes. Writers are out of ideas.
Anna_16001 May 2022
This finale was underwhelming. Claire is a witch yet again and a significant amount of time was spent on Brianna and Roger and Jamie and Claire having sex. I didn't find Claire and Jamie's conversations very interesting either. For much of the finale I found myself wishing they would stop talking and stop having sex so something interesting could happen.

Jamie and Claire are in this mess because they let the Christies move onto Fraser's Ridge. Jamie knew what kind of man Tom was and that he was a religious fanatic, but said in the first episode that he couldn't say no to Tom because he invited other people from Scotland to live there. That was weak and shortsighted. Did any viewers think that it was sensible?

There are ways to make Outlander exciting again, but Gabaldon and the other writers seem to have writer's block.

Heart in my throat brilliant!
yoliegb3 May 2022
Forget those sneering, derisive reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, of course, but they are not the last word.

This was Diana's favorite and I and see why.

Boy, oh boy, did they do her proud!

In fact, this will join the ranks of iconic OL episodes.

It had everything you could want in a finale. There was action, suspense, sublime intimacy (especially from Heughan and Balfe), villains, surprising heroes and virtuoso performances. Jamie Payne is a brilliant, masterful director. There were some unusual shots and beautiful lighting.

The last scene was vindicating, moving and epic.

But my heart vied with the lump in my throat the whole time.

I was deeply moved and can't give enough credit to the whole Outlander team.

This is television viewing at its finest!

Exceptional Television 6 Seasons In!!
cps001 May 2022
This is the best episode of the season and may be top 3 for the entire Series! The writing is epic, the acting superb and the DIRECTING!! Jamie Payne is always incredible but this was next level! The scenes between Jamie and Claire played of course by the brilliant Caitríona Balfe and Sam Hueghan were reminiscent of Season 1. How they created such magical television in the midst of a pandemic and all the while the lead going through pregnancy is phenomenal. I have nothing but praise for this episode. Well done to everyone involved in making this series! Cannot wait for season 7! Also shout out to Mark Lewis Jones as Tom Christie!! He was able to really let us into who Tom Christie is! BRAVO!

Excellent end to an awesome season!
pprestamo2 May 2022
Loved, loved this episode-so much dialogue from the book as was the rest of this season. Acting was great -the addition of Mark Lewis was a perfect, complicated Tom Christie. Director Jamie Payne captured all the emotion(awesome camera angles), and Bear McCreary's score beautifully complemented the story. Can't wait for S7!

A great ending to a great season
ibgelias1 May 2022
This season mastered the art of character developing. Throughout it, we saw characters and relationships we can relate to.

Outlander is not meant to be a fairytale. In general, characters aren't meant to face life changing events, such as sexual assault, the loss of a loved one or of a child, imprisonment, etc., and overcome it all in the last 3 minutes of the respective episode. Furthermore, the process of overcoming such adversities isn't supposed to be linear and obstacle free, because that's just not how life works.

Being that said, season 6 excelled at giving characters the needed screen time to deal with their internal struggles. We saw that with Marsali and Fergus' portrayal of the internal turmoil of feeling and being seen as inapt or of having to shield a loved one in that position; with Brianna and Roger's attempt to find a place in a world they weren't build for; with Young Ian's grief over the loss of a child and the effects it had on his relationship with his wife; and finally with Claire succumbing to a life full of tragedy and trauma in a humanly and (im)perfect way.

This raw depiction of human experiences in a particularly difficult time period (especially for those who were used to the 20th century standards) gave this season a very much needed relatableness.

Of course, all of this was made possible by carefully drafted character-centered scripts, superb acting (with a special nod to Caitríona Balfe, César Domboy, John Bell, Mark Lewis Jones and Sam Heughan, who exceptionally played a fundational role in this season's plot - the role of a wiser Jamie, responsible for supporting and leading his loved ones through their healing processes) and spotless cinematography (being "I Am Not Alone" a hymn of television magnificence) and score.

Finally, this episode's parallel between the MacKenzies' bliss (with a lot of references to the future...) and the Frasers' torment (that are now faced with the consequences of past decisions and confrontations) set the stage to a promising season 7. What a way to end an episode, leaving everyone too excited to endure yet another Droughtlander!

Excellent episode, heavy loaded, mature. A joy to watch and process the action and the emotions. It leaves the audience with a cliffhanger (although we all know that Claire wont die). Much praised chemistry between Cait and Sam is in full force.

Best finale!
lindah-4415410 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In my opinion, as it even outshines Season one. This was the best finale of all the seasons. This has been the season that followed the spirit of the book the closest. It's my favorite season so far. Sam & Caitrìona are doing a great job at getting back to the heart of Outlander. We all know that is the epic love story between Jamie & Claire.

Surprisingly sam & Caitrìona we're able bring to life other characters' stories as well. I am giving them credit, because, there wasn't much coherence to book storylines before they became producers. Season 4 was the worst. I hardly recognized the show. They cut vital stories ( Jamie & Claire being at Jem's birth) in exchange for stories that were out of character(Murtagh/Jocasta romp). They also left out Ian being at the Ridge when Willie visited. This was important for a story coming in Season 7.

Luckily, Sam & Caitrìona became active as producers the middle of Season 5.

I can not wait until I see what season 7 brings. I hope that the show can continue on this same path.

Series is losing its touch
lakings9716 June 2023
Outlander: Season 6 continues the story of Claire and Jamie's fight for survival before the revolutionary war during the colonial times in North Carolina. Their lives will eventually intertwine with history when the war erupts against the English monarchy. This season not only do they need to protect their land but their every changing family to develop a community against those that think Claire is a witch. The series starts off slow and boring, nothing too dramatic. I got sick of seeing their love for each other which at this point seemed more forced and outlandish. Wish the producers stopped with the four season, but there will be two more seasons till we see the end.

A So-So Season
bluesouptin9 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In S6, "Outlander" confronts the age-old conundrum that arises in romance-driven shows: what to do when your couple have found each other and settled down? How do you infuse their "happily ever after" with interesting tension while remaining true to their characters? Claire's bout with ether addiction offered some grist-and the shattering vulnerability of her admission through riven tears is matched only by his bottomless understanding and unshakable resolve to stand beside her. It's the best moment in Season 6-Claire and Jamie. It's the point of the show, why we watch. And their moment seemed well-earned, if not dragged out a bit.

But the thrust for something more explosive won out in the writer's room. Thus, the fisherfolk and Malva. And understand this about Malva, her wanton ways would not have gone unnoticed on Fraser's Ridge. Likely, her worldliness undergirds the general belief that Jamie partook of her pleasures. But, well, it's all a little absurd. What does she hope to gain? Jamie and Claire are bound with hoops of steel. Clearly, she attempted a love charm on Jamie and poisoned Claire and her father. (Quite likely, her father killed her). But her murder on the Fraser homestead blows up the entire season. It's just a teaser for coming installments.

In all Season 6 offered a few good moments, but too few and far between. And, finally, would someone please coach the actor playing Young Ian on drawing a bow, and explain to the director that no one takes an axe to a rotted tree, downed in the forest. Just laughable.

Glad the season is over
chunkylefunga3 May 2022
This whole season has been an absolute slog.

Most of it just doesn't make sense.

Jamie's reputation magically seems to vanish over the nonse a trollop throws about.

Malva would have been laughed out of town. None of this would have happened with the characters that are well established.

And why does anyone think we want to see a 200 miles journey that Jamie and Claire are forced to go on. That's pure filler.

I hope next season fixes all the mistakes this one has made and this one shows a clear case of writers block.

These 8 episodes could easily have just been 2. It's nearly all been filler and the bits that have tried to build tension have just been badly written.

My beef is not with the story BUT the way the story has been told
Ziggy19653 May 2022
These 8 episodes could have all been done in 4 episodes but so much time was spent with fillers that one loses the sense of the story.

I can't say that it was all bad but I can't say it was all good either.

Since the readers of the books state that this is accurate to how Diana Gabaldon wrote it, then I must say that this book must have been a drag of a book to read.

The ending was good but it just took so long to get there.

Why can't Jamie and Claire state that they are innocent when they are accused of murder? By staying quiet it adds to their guilt from those who think otherwise?

Also why are Bree and Roger playing with their son's hair and having their face in there when they know he has lice? Though it was a nice touch to find out who the real father is.

So overall, it was an OK season with lots of fillers but enough good stuff to tease us into watching more. Like I said, if I could edit this season I would have made it into 4 episodes.

BTW, I have figured out who killed Malva and my wife who has read the books concurs. It is pretty obvious.

Sing me a song that rambles and bores.
mark-141-7469985 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The real problem is the source material. Every time a series like Outlander becomes a bestseller, the editing gets thrown out the window. Each book gets longer but the substance gets thinner. Gabaldon could write about quidditch and no one would care. This adaptation is full of improbable twists. Accusations are made that could easily be refuted but Jamie and Clare are too wrapped up in their fits to gather any evidence. So what could have been dealt with in 4 episodes leaves us with a cliffhanger again. This is the same thin stuff that Game of Thrones pulled: lure us in and then spend way too much time telling a thin tale. Yawn.
